Chapter 47 - Memories II: Last Battle

After a few minutes of desperately riding the horse towards the palace that was located at the center of the city. Avery finally arrived at the bottom of the wide staircase that led to a huge door.

The wide staircase that was once a spotless white marble, was now filled with blood.

Dead bodies of both humans and elves alike were scattered everywhere.

Wooden roots and vines protrude from the ground with human bodies being pierced on the tip.

Elves with burnt marks all over their bodies.

Humans were frozen into blocks of ice.

Armors, shields, and weapons filled with blood were scattered all around.

There was no doubt that there had been a big fight that occurred here.

The spectating Yue was surprised regarding the state of the battle. "This is much more intense than what I had seen in the streets."

It was understandable since the palace is not only the core of the city but also housed the ruler of their empire, Yue.

Normally, Yue would have escaped through the use of the hidden escape route inside the palace, but that was not the case now since the escape route was sealed by the enemy.

Information regarding them has been leaked, and there was no doubt who the person that leaked that information was.

Upon seeing the state, of the palace, Avery was struck with fear and anxiety.

Fear that he was too late.

So he hopped down his horse and ran with haste towards the staircase without minding the dead bodies around him.

Arriving in front of the breached door, he saw further signs of battle in the hallway.

*Booom*

He then heard a loud sound of an explosion coming from the throne room.

The explosion was strong, he could feel the shockwave all the way from the entrance and was forced to stop running.

However, that explosion gave Avery some hope since the battle was still ongoing.

'I am coming Little Yue!'

'Big brother…' The real Yue who was still floating beside her brother worriedly thought, she had been feeling that something bad was going to happen.

With hope left, Avery then quickly rushed towards the throne room without minding the bodies that were splattered all over the hallway.

Seeing that he was near the door towards the throne room, Avery yelled "Little Yue!!!"

However, as he went inside he saw what he had feared came true. All hopes inside him shattered.

Yue who was watching all this happen was shocked as she now knew what the memories were trying to show her.

A few minutes before Avery arrived.

Inside the throne room, signs of destruction and battle can be seen.

All soldiers from both sides were either, unconscious or dead.

Yue and Kaden were the only ones standing.

Yue angrily glared at Kaden for killing her subordinates.

She cherished them since they had helped her a lot. They even supported her in her endeavor of winning her brother's heart even if some friction had occurred between them lately.

Kaden returned the glare furiously at her.

"You! Now you feel what I feel when you killed my brother!!"

The fury in his eyes was insurmountable when he said those words.

He was going to kill her, then kill her brother like what they did to Hayden.

He had never planned on going through with his deal with Tristan.

No matter who, killing his brother was a grave sin and he was prepared to avenge him.

"Tsk! I am telling you, your brother was trying to overthrow you from your throne!"

"Lies!"

"Lies!!"

"Lies!!!!"

"Fool!" Yue replied in frustration. She was going to let him be if only he had listened to her a while ago, but the death of her trusted subordinates was enough reason for her to not spare him.

"Now that it has come to this, I have no choice but to end you like your foolish brother!"

"You have no right to speak of him! Die!!" Kaden furiously rebutted as he launches himself towards Yue.

He appeared in front of Yue in a blink of an eye and slashed her greatsword at her.

Yue quickly prepared a mana barrier in front of her in order to block the attack.

Since it was hastily made, the barrier broke after a second. She raised her magic staff to block the incoming slash.

Yue was then launched towards the wall, cracking it after impact.

Kaden launched himself again towards Yue who was still stuck in the wall.

His sword this time landed straight at her.

However, Yue's body started dissipating as if it were an illusion.

Heat was then felt at Kaden's back before an explosion was heard.

Dust and fire spread around covering Kaden's body.

Yue can be seen, standing 5 meters away from him with her staff pointed towards him.

She had prepared an illusion when the barrier was about to break. Her barrier was mainly there to buy her time to cast some spells.

As the dust settled, Kaden can be seen standing still.

"Tsk!" Seeing him fine, made Yue frustrated.

The battle then continues as Kaden kept on launching the offensive while Yue dodge or blocked his attack.

Yue was close to dying many times during the exchange, but after some careful planning, she was able to scrape by.

As the battle continued she noticed her mana dropping to a dangerous level.

So like how he did a few times ago, she first quickly cast a binding spell at Kaden in order to give her some space to drink her mana potion.

As the binding spell was a success, Yue brought her mana potion out.

"Just die already!!!" Kaden furiously roared as he threw his greatsword at her.

Yue was surprised since Kaden escaped her binding which did not happen a while ago.

Little did she know that Kaden was getting frustrated so he used one of his items to protect himself from the binding spell.

The greatsword spun as it flew towards Yue who was in the middle of drinking her mana potion.

She stopped drinking and quickly jumped out of the way. She would have used a spell to dodge that but her mana was insufficient.

Yue quickly stood up, as the greatsword landed behind her.

*Swish*

She then quickly looked forward only to not see Kaden there, but his greatsword??

Confused she quickly looks around only to feel something cold and painful in her heart.

"Hahaha!! Finally!" Kaden laughed as he pushed the [Orange Grade] cursed dagger deeper inside her heart.

Kaden had switched places with his greatsword using one of its skills. It was one of his trump cards that always gets his enemies off guard when done right.

Yue looked down to see the tip of a dagger protruding out of her chest.

Knowing what it was, she started gathering mana from her left hand.

Blood leaked down from the tip of her mouth as she slowly turned her head around.

There she saw him laughing triumphantly as he had finally been one step closer to avenging his brother.

He withdrew the dagger and let her drop to the ground.

"Hahahah!! Finally! Finally!" He kept laughing as if he was crazy.

Yue who was on the ground kept on silently gathering towards her left hand by converting her life energy into mana.

Kaden, who was busy relishing his win, did not notice a thing.

He then grabbed Yue by the hair, to get a good look at her face of defeat.

"This is how my brother felt when you killed him!"

"How does it feel huh!?"

"Answer me!! How does it feel!!"

"D–" Yue muttered.

"Louder!!"

"Di–"

"I said louder!!"

"I said DIE!" Yue shouted as she held his face with her left hand and released all her mana into one spell.

Kaden's eyes widen as he took the spell, which he estimated to be at the late stage of [Teir 4], at point-blank range.

*Boooom*

A loud explosion that was stronger than anything released during the battle was heard.

The spell enshrouded his whole body as he was launched towards the wall.

The spell did not stop there as it penetrated wall after wall until it finally stopped.

There, Yue saw a headless burnt body at the end of the wall.

Kaden was unlikely to survive that as he took the brunt of the spell at one of the critical spots of the body.

Seeing him dead, Yue dropped to the ground with her body facing up.

The wound in her heart started to get worse as black veins started spreading outwardly.

The curse that was inflicted by an [Orange Grade] cursed dagger was acting up after the stunt that she had pulled.

'Is this the end?'

'But, I haven't even married big brother yet.'

"Little Yue!!!" She heard a familiar voice coming from the door.

"B-big brother?" She meekly said as the wound in her heart made it hard for her to speak. In fact, it was a miracle how she was still alive despite her wounds. Magic really does wonders and so does the cliffhanger.
