14 01 - A Fallen Noble

Glancing over the 'Optional Quest', Fang Lin's mouth couldn't help but to start twitching. 10 'Legends'? and where the fuck am I going to find 10 here in 'Glory City'? The hell you heartless system! You're setting me up for an impossible task here you know... Well, at least the 'Main Quests' are a bit more reasonable and were thing I would willingly do even without the quest. But what is this 'Mysterious Fragment' anyway? That was also a reward for the 'Grand Quest' I got some time ago... I'll think more about this later.

Surprisingly, the identity generated by the system was so comprehensive that it even created a whole 'family', a noble family no less. The Gold Token was actually this powerful? Truly worth every points spent. The best part is that this identity actually formed a connection between Fang Lin and the Snow Wind Family, City Lord included. In fact, this room he's currently standing in actually resided in one of the courtyard of the City Lord's mansion!
According his 'history', Fang Lin is actually from a now fallen noble clan, the Fang Clan. During the 'birth' of Fang Lin 14 years ago, the color of his soul realm was actually found to be Golden. A color completely unheard of in all of Glory City's history. Fang Lin was then touted as the greatest would be genius ever born unto the clan that would one day lead not just the 'Fang Family', but all of Glory City to a new golden age.
During that time however, all the major families and most of the nobles/aristocratic families were there for some reason and had also witnessed the moment of his soul realm color's reveal. This part was the only thing the 'history' was unclear about. Naturally, every family heads wanted their hands on some of the influence Fang Lin would bring in the future. Even going as far as to try and betroth every daughters or granddaughters they had, almost starting a mini war then and there. In the end though, their offers were refused, politely of course, saying that they need time to think about it.
The happy times were cut extremely short however as somehow, the 'Dark Guild' had learned of Fang Lin's existence. Not even 1 week had passed after the 'birth' of Fang Lin, the 'Dark Guild' brought a team of over a dozen members, each at the very least a gold rank demon spiritualists expert to attack the 'Fang Family'. As a mere Noble family, how can they even dream of resisting that much attack power.
As a result, this almost lead to a complete massacre of the 'Fang Family'. The goal of the 'Dark Guild' was unclear but everyone unanimously agreed that it was most likely in order to either kidnap or destroy Fang Lin before he had the chance to grow. Lord Ye Mo and a few of the Snow Wind Family's elders who were on their way to the mansion of the 'Fang Family', to talk of the engagement between Fang Lin and Ye Mo's recently borned granddaughter, Ye Ziyun.
What they saw however, happened to be the scene of the massacre taking place. This naturally lead to Ye Mo defending the remaining 'Fang Family' members. With a Legend realm expert on the scene, how could the 'Dark Guild' people hope to win? As a result, they had to escape after losing more than 3/4 of their original numbers. 'Luckily', baby Fang Lin was still safe before the worst had occured.
The only people left of the 'Fang Family' at this were just the servants while those that held important positions, positions that kept the family afloat, had perished. Even the parents of 'Fang Lin' themselves had perished. They laid their lives blocking any and all attempts aimed at Fang Lin which is the reason why the 'Dark Guild' were held up long until Ye Mo's people arrived. Fang Lin's 'mother' herself died shortly after a bundle that is Fang Lin to Lord Ye Mo.
This event naturally sent shock waves throughout all of Glory City once news had disseminated. For a long while, the whole city was on a witch hunt for the 'Dark Guild' however, not even a shadow of them could be found even after a long time passed. It's as if they just disappeared into thin air.
The 'Fang Family' on the other hand no longer had a future as almost everyone had died. Anyone else that was still alive at that point disbanded and went their separate ways after looting the family's treasuries. As for Fang Lin however, it was decided that he would live in the City Lord's Mansion from then henceforth. It was both to protect him and to nurture him into being loyal to Glory City. Just to make it 100% certain, Ye Mo still went ahead and got Fang Lin engaged to his granddaughter, Ye Ziyun. Ooh boy, telling that to Ning'er is gonna be soo much fun...
As the years go by, Fang Lin apparently 'grew up' to be a very polite, but taciturn individual who very rarely choose to interact with others and chose to train all the time. Even Ye Ziyun, his supposed fiancé, who lived in the courtyard adjacent to his had barely seen, let alone interact with Fang Lin. As a result of his training enthusiasm, 'Fang Lin' had grown very rapidly and already reached 'Silver Rank' the last time his soul force was checked once again proving his "genius".
After ruminating upon his identity for a few moments, Fang Lin finally remembered to contact Xiao Bai. As luck would have it though, both were teleported near the other's vicinity and met up not much later. Hearing that brought him some relief as he then told Ning'er, through Xiao Bai, to go back home for now as it's already late at night. He also told Ning'er not to reveal her current strength so she could use it as a surprise later if something happens. After conveying everything he needed, Fang Lin just bid them goodnight. Huh, how neat... my cell phone is a loli.
"Never thought I'd say this, but It's a good thing I have no friends in this setting. If I suddenly start forgetting who my 'best friends' are.... people would think something was up and lock me up or something thinking I was an imposter. And it seems that... tomorrow would be my first day starting at the Holy Orchard Institute thus officially starting the plot. Hm since there's not much else I can do right now, might as well just turn in."

After half an hour of tossing and turning, Fang Lin finally gave up and walked out of his room to get some fresh air. Damn it. Seems he's gotten way too used to sleeping with both Ning'er and Xiao Bai next to him now and can't easily fall asleep without either of their presences. It just feels like he's missing something important and can't calm down.
"Fang Lin? What are you still doing up?" suddenly said someone who seemed to be moving towards his direction. Hmm? Waist length purple hair, lavender eyes, and a girl around my age... if that isn't Ye Ziyun I would eat my own shoes. Not wanting to sound rude, he gave her a gentle smile, one that he would usually use on Ning'er, and replied to her casually. "Aah.. Yun'er, I couldn't fall asleep tonight you see" already completely breaking his character setting without even realizing it.

Ye Ziyun who was walking towards Fang Lin froze in shock, both at what she heard and at what she was seeing. Yun'er? When did he start calling her that? Didn't he usually call her either 'Miss Ye', or 'Young Miss'? The way he respectfully kept her at a distance like that since young... really made her uncomfortable... and sad even if she never showed it. Are they not supposed to be engaged? But on the other hand... what was that way of calling her earlier?
Thinking of those mesmerising red eyes of his... coupled with that gentle expression under the moonlight can't help but made Ye Ziyun's heart skip a beat.---cough--- Hearing that cough finally woke her from her mild stupor. Then she realized that she had only just been staring at his face this whole time. More and more her started to turn beet red. "Cough Fang Lin, g-good evening." Ye Ziyun really wanted to cry now. Their first ever true 'conversation' and she just keeps messing it up.

Fang Lin who was completely unaware of the turmoil he's caused this confused 14 year old just slightly raised one eyebrow. Stuttering...? Is the night chill affecting her? 'Seeing' her like that, Fang Lin couldn't but walk up to her while taking out one his spare clothe to put it on her. "You shouldn't stay out for too long as it might affect your health. For now, just return to your room and rest well. Good night" said Fang Lin gently as he started walking back to his room.
Caught off guard by sudden act, Ziyun just froze once again. What is with Fang Lin today? He seems different... this current him is... nice. After walking for a few steps, Fang Lin suddenly stopped and said something to her. "Ah Yun'er, soon there will be someone who will do his best and use every and any method to get your attention. Just... be careful ok?" After saying his piece, he continued walking until completely disappearing into the night.
"Hm... seeing Ziyun, I finally remembered about Nie Li, the original main character of this world. I wonder what his reaction would be to know I'm 'engaged' to his beloved Ye Ziyun instead of that Shen Yue prick. Well, he better not try anything against me... he's already lucky enough I didn't just kill him directly for the way MY Ning'er was treated in the original work."
Without him realizing it, his 'devil' side surfaced before promptly getting suppressed by "Serene Mind". It was too late however as it already influence a bit of his way of thinking. With cold eyes, Fang Lin aggressively said "Since I am here... you, Nie Li, are no longer the 'main character'! I am!"
