In the age of devastation- living beings were treated as nothing more than just nourishment for the universe. 

One day they thrived- the next day they ceased to exist.

Some theories went as far as to claim perhaps the universe nourished life just so it could consume it all? And that's why there were so many varieties and so many different origins.

Other theories suggested a more plausible reason. 

Boredom. 

The universe was bored and wanted to pass the time with 'life'?

But wouldn't it make the universe-
