20 |What Came Before|

Kane observed his curiosity and sighed. "It is about that time... Every month, on the day of the first full moon. This happens."

Greed inquired, "Why?"

"Same reason why the territories are separated. I'll continue where I had left off..."He ruminated over what to say.

"To explain this next part. I have to first tell you that our Lord, the Sea God, is fond of creating. His hobbies are to experiment with and manipulate living beings. In his many tests and exploits, he created thousands of rare species and treasures. These he leaves within the high seas for anyone lucky enough to come across them."

Kane paused. He looked over to Greed, who currently fantasized about the Sea God and all his glory. His will betrayed him and before long he was sneaking glances at some of the passing maids. "His Highness does not bother with things of the mundane world, so he lets the fruits of his labor become objects of trade to his worshippers. It is a large part of the reason why anything that comes from these oceans is worth anything. The Sea Regions exotic goods are genuinely rare can no be found elsewhere-"

His words were cut short by a small electric shock erupting within his arm. He managed to move his body in time so his heart wasn't hit instead. Cold drops of sweat rolled down his forehead as his numb and slightly singed hand was soon hidden from sight within his robes. The women of the Mulleres Do Mar were a ruthless bunch. If he didn't redirect that bolt, he might have been paralyzed. Suffering in silence, the encounter had taken seconds from start to end.

He gave a light cough and continued.

"Mh. Mh. Humanity for the larger of the last thousand years held dominance over both lands and oceans as I said earlier. But, that all changed 500 years ago. A new race was born. Created by the sea god, through his own mythical methods. The Sea Demon tribe was born. They shared similar traits to the humans. However, they were also half fish. They were nicknamed fish men at first. But, that changed later on. At the time of their creation, many other races spawned as well. The water dragons, black tortoise, and arctic sea tigers all came forth from the cauldron of his highness." Kane's single good hand narrated the story along with his long and vigor filled dialogue. His pacing was perfect and allowed for Greed to follow along.

He even got the feeling that Kane had told this same story many, many times.

Greed dismissed the feeling and continued to listen closely as Kane began to explain more. The humans and demons were allies for one hundred years. In that time, thousands of Sea Demons were produced. Their population had skyrocketed. Their aptitude began to show. Cultivation for the Sea Demons was exponentially greater than humans. They were blessed with a higher comprehension of the Dao.

Envy towards the Sea Demons became commonplace. Cultivation was everything and with such a large head start and not to mention booming reproductivity. The demons could outdo the humans. This could not be allowed.

In order to cripple the demon race before they became too strong and set their sights on the land territories. A task force of human Bishops charged into the ocean territories heart.

The initial plan was to severely injure the leaders of the demon tribe before pinning the blame on the rogues of the massacre region, which borders Sea Region to the south-east. Unfortunately, they had been too uninformed.

Their fight with the higher-ups of the tribe caused massive collateral damage. This would have been fine in other situations. However, what received the most damage was the nest of the demon race. Their children were reduced to ashes, decorating the bottom of the ocean. At this point Greeds expression was ghastly. He did not think that humans would go to such measures for envy. His silver-grey hair drifted with the wind as a frustrated look bloomed on his face and his eyes appeared to dim from their earlier luster.
