4 Chapter 3: The missing father and first contact

Half a month goes by and the relative between Ran and Conan have already fundamentally changed and they have become secret full-time lovers, secret only because of the currently visible age difference.

Having used his knowledge of the plot Conan helped Kogoro to save the lives of the otherwise murdered victims, which in turn strengthened Rans love and admiration for him.

Currently, Conan is sitting in Agasas house reading the newspaper with a look of disgust on his face. ''Robbing, Kidnapping, and murder. It just never stops does it.''

''That's why your skills are so much needed...'' says Agasa working on a pair of glasses.

Looking at them Conan can only breath out in a release that they are a pair of stylish thick-rimmed glasses and not the ugly ones the original Conan would be wearing.

''... Hear it is done...'' Agasa says handing him the glasses and explaining''... These are 'homing glasses' invented by yours truly...''

Before the old inventor can further boost Conan has already pushed the button on the side, activating the radar function.

''Where are the transmitters?'' Asks Conan making the old man very unhappy.

Taking one transmitter to form his works station Agasa once again tries to explain but is interrupted by Conan once again. ''I know it has a radius of 20km for tracking...''

Sticking the transmitter on a button of his jacket he says. ''... I will keep it here if not in use. Do you have a second one that can be worked into some jewelry?''

''What kind of?'' Asks Agata, looking at with a defeated look on his face.

''The kinda girl would wear.''

''A gift for Ran? Man, you went fast with that girl. Ever since you turned small you are really taking that Casanova thing very serious.''

After returning to the Mouri household Conan hear a hysteric girl plead with Kogoro. ''Please Mr. Detrctive. You must find my father!''

-Missing person case nobody is dying, not my problem.- Thinks Conan standing next to Ran when the girl says to Kogoro and handing him a picture. ''This is my father Kenzo Hirota.''

''You are Masami Hirota?'' Asks Conan surprised, knowing that Masami Hirota, aka Rose, also known as Akemi Miyano is the older sister of Shiho Miyano, the woman who invented APTX 4869.

''Yes, I am. How do you know?'' Asks the surprised woman, still acting all innocent.

''I just guessed it. You really look like a Masami I guess...'' Conan tells the woman before turning to Ran, asking innocently. ''... Ran, do we still have these chocolate cookies you gave me yesterday in the kitchen?''

Taking Rans hand Conan pulls her into the kitchen to talk.

''What is it, Conan? Do you know something I don't?'' Ran asks trying to get into his head.

Despite knowing that she is trying to get into his head Conan tells her: ''Yes, I do. This woman out there isn't Masami Hirota but Akemi Miyano, in the organization she is called Rose... Please don't ask how I know... She is also the sister of the woman who invented the drug that heads me shrink.''

''What do you want me to do?'' Asks Ran, seeing his serious but adorable thinking face.

''First lets help Uncle Kogoro find the man. I am sure that the woman Rose will want to see him dead... Now that we know we can stop his murder and use her to make contact with her sister codenamed Sherry.'' Explains Conan his basic plan to Ran.

Being concerned for her father Ran asks. ''Are you sure we can do this? I don't want my father to get involved in this.''

''I am. Now that you know and are able to help. I am sure we can do this without getting the organizations attention...'' Says Conan rummaging around in his pockets before pulling out a coin pendant with the number 1 engraved on it, on a short leather strap. ''... Here I got you something. I hope you like it.''

Presenting it to her, Ran instantly snatches it from out of his hands and puts it on, saying. ''Oh, thank you.''

''Do you like it?'' Asks Conan seeing her happy face.

Leaning down at him Ran kisses him deeply, purring the answer when ending their kiss. ''Yes, very much...''

At this moment it is a very good thing that Rans father isn't witnessing his daughter kiss a seven-year-old, otherwise, the only god knows what he would be thinking.

Pulling slightly on the pendant Conan tells her seriously. ''This represents that you are mine. Don't forget that.''

Seeing his possessive streak and getting a bit turned on by it, Ran says. ''I wouldn't. I swear on it. I am yours.''

''Good.''

When going back to the living room/ office Ran and Conan find it empty. A look out of the window reveals Kogoro telling the Rose, that he will definitely find her father.

''What do we do now?'' Asks Ran, once again unsure what to do next.

Smiling up at her and touching her on the but, Conan is happy to see Rans' face get red before he says. ''Now my darling we accompany uncle Kogoro on his investigation.''

Hours later after following Kogoro on his trip interviewing people who might know Kenzo Hirota, the three of them return home, where the telephone is already ringing.

Exhausted Kogoro takes the call while Conan and Ran spend their time kissing in the kitchen while keeping an ear on Rans father.

''... third time today... Darn it he is a man with no social life and nobody at his work knows where he is... He didn't tell anybody about his daughter... I ask around in all pet shops in the area but still no lead...'' They hear Kogoro think and curse out loud walking around. Knowing that they are dangerously close to getting discovered Ran and Conan stop making out and join Kogoro in the living room.

Turning on the TV and sapping through the channels Conan at first listen to a bank robbery report, that reminds him of the Roses mission of getting the organization one billion yen in exchange for her sister.

-I could find uses for these amounts of cash.-

Seeing the report come to an end Conan switches the channel once again now once again following the plot by watching a horse race. Writing down the names of Kenzo Hirota's cat's names spelling ' Go-Tei-Kai-Oh' which is the name of the horse currently winning.

While Conan is following the plot Kogoro sees Ran suddenly wearing a strange pendant. ''Didn't know you liked wearing pendants. I think I still have some of your mothers somewhere. If you find them they are yours.'' Says Kogoro while opening himself a beer.

Blushing Ran tells her father. ''It was a gift from a friend...'' Touching the pendant she averts her eyes seeing Conan's note and looking at the TV. Counting one and one together she tells her father. ''... That's it gotta be... Mr. Hirota liked horse races!... Look dad he named all his cats after a horse named 'GoTeiKaiOh'... I bet we can find him at the tracks...''

Following along with the original plot Kogoro, ran and Conan find Kenzo Hirota at the race track. Following him the find the mans hideout in a cheap apartment in Nerimaku.

Informing the 'daughter' via a nearby phone booth, they split up. While Kogoro after seeing this case closed goes home, Ran and Conan are setting up a trap for Rose aka Akemi Miyano.

Hiding behind some trashcans Conan instructs Ran to use her martial art skills and nock Rose out the moment the woman appears.

''Are you sure that works?'' Asks Ran a bit surprised that Conan is relying on her help instead of taking charge himself. Thinking about Shinichi's/Conan's recent positive changes, not only in their relationship but also his hole demeanor Ran can't deny that she likes this humble, less self-centered side of him and even falls in love with it.
