28 Chapter 27: Confessions
While Ai and Conan are having their first day at school the following day, Erin has to meet clients, meet deadlines and review her law firms in upcoming cases. Wearing one of her tight businesses skirts, red high heels, white blouse, and red lipstick, she combines sexy, yet conservative elements without looking like a nun nor a hooker.
Having taken a few days off, work is piling up, so much so that yesterday she wasn't even in the mood for sex, but glad for Conan massaging her back without demanding anything in return. Thinking back about it now, the little boy was the perfect combination of a supportive but not overbearing partner. Remembering the comfortable ease of the evening, Erin can't stop feeling butterflies in her belly. This is the setting in which officer Sato finds Erin Kisaki better known as 'Queen of the Courtroom'. Entering the famous lawyer's office, Sato can't understand how a classic beauty ended up married and impregnated by a bastard like Kogoro Mouri. Looking around the office, she is instantly reminded of the paperwork she herself still has to do.
Spotting Erin behind her desk Sato greets her by saying. ''Good morning Miss Kisaki.''
''Ah, officer Sato nice to meet you...'' Greets Erin the woman, looking up from the document she is currently working on. ''... I hope you have some good news for me regarding my ex-husband.''
Remembering the reason for meeting the 'Queen' Sato asks her. ''I have, but do you have some time? What I want to talk to you about will take some time.''
Pointing at the soft leather sofas in the corner Erin says. ''Very well. I wanted to get away from these documents anyway.''
Sitting down facing each other, the lawyer sits down elegantly crossing her legs, while Sato can only envy the moment her natural beauty and grace, sitting down herself.
''So about my ex?!'' Asks Erin eloquently like a true Queen demanding an answer.
Feeling the pressure the lawyer eminates, Sato can't stop herself from answering humbly. ''The court rolled your ex-husband guilty in all points, but because of his history as a former officer and this being his first crime, he will be out of prison in a few months.''
''I knew it...'' Curses Erin. ''... That bastard always weasels his way through all kinds of problems.''
''No comment on that...'' Choosing her words carefully Sato explains. ''... but telling you this is not the reason why I am here today.''
Once again playing with her pendant Erin blushes beautifully before smilingly asking. ''And what would that be?''
Taking a deep breath, knowing that she is moving into a grey area of the law, Sato confesses to the lawyer. ''I am here because I don't know who to trust at the moment. After hearing you argue with the district attorney, I just knew that I could trust you with what I am about to tell you...''
Nodding in understanding Erin retrieves some water nearby while saying. ''Please go on. Client-Lawyer confidentiality.''
''Thanks...'' Says Sato, taking a sip of water before continuing. ''... I guess you know about the 'lowered' drug and 'kidnapping' numbers released by the district attorneys office and police?''
''Yes, I do...'' Erin says nodding. ''... I, in fact, read the article just now.''
''Yes, well... It is all fake...'' Sato states, clinging to the glass of water like it was a lifejacket. ''... The numbers are all wrong. We, in fact, have a shart raise in drug-related cases and kidnappings.''
Growing deeply Erin asks. ''How is that even possible. I saw the numbers they seem to be correct.''
''The numbers themselves are correct, but they only look at the convinced cases. Open or dismissed cases aren't even taken into consideration... Just yesterday I had a boy searching his sister. Just as I was about to leave the office to look into it my college and direct superior Ninzaburo Shiratori, shredded the case file, the moment the boy was out of the side. He told me that the police didn't have the resources to fund a boy's overactive imagination.''
''What about the drug cases?'' Erin asks having licked blood.
Looking even more disillusioned Sato tells the lawyer. ''We let most minor drug offenses go without making charges. The district attorneys office even gave us a note, not to bother them with small fish like small-time dealers.''
Spending nearly all morning talking to Sato Erin has two thoughts. For one she wants to help the officer clean her police station and the district attorneys office of any corrupted officers and lawyers. Second Erin is seriously considering having Conan seduce the police officer and have her join their little family.

While Erin is having her talk with officer Sato, Ran has a talk with her best friend that is suddenly behaving strangely. Realiseing her best friends change after the summer vacation, Ran corners her on the school's rooftop.
''Now tell me why you are behaving so strange?...'' Asks Ran, confronting her friend with dead eyes. ''... What happened in the time between the ending of the past school year and the beginning of this one?''
Looking at Ran with lifeless eyes, a single tear runs down Sonokos face, before the girl breaks down.
Hugging her friends while crying out her grievances Sonoko starts talking. ''It all began at the beginning of the summer vacation. My father one day came home telling my mother that the company was facing bankruptcy. I naturally overheard them talking about it, discussing the selling of some family jewelry...''
Stroking her friend hair Ran tells her. ''I bet your family makes it through. Your father isn't an idiot.''
Still crying, maybe now even a bit more Sonoko further explains her sorrow. ''... Yea, well I didn't think of that back them. I just panicked and started my little blackmailing scam... I started compensated dating via an online dating site...''
Feeling her friend sudden from just talking about it, Ran tells her. ''Oh, you poor girl I am sure that working as a prostitute was hard on you...''
Seeing her friend's nonjudgemental and kind face Sonoko decides to confess more.''... Oh, that wasn't the real scheme... I lured the man into a hotel room under the pretense of doing business... I took photographs of my clients and blackmailed them into handing over millions of yen...''
''Oh, my poor friend. I bet these man deserved what they got. How dare they hire a prostitute and a high school girl at that!'' Says Ran, strongly hugging her friend.
Feeling guilty receiving Rans sympathy Sonoko struggles free of the embrace confessing everything. ''... That's also not it. Looking into my photo album they found out about my scam and my true name...'' seeing Ran wanting to once again comfort her, Sonoko just shakes her head continuing. ''...
