2 Chapter 2 Commander's Spree

David was a little dumbfounded, this kind of thing was too illusory.

The female voice called Nana just came too suddenly, making it somewhat unacceptable.

David even thought that what he was seeing and hearing was a hallucination, but the sharp pain coming from his leg told him another story.

The end of the world that he knew had come to an end, and he also had a lady in his head calling him handsome.

It was rather overwhelming.

"Nana? What are you calling me? Handsome commander? Handsome, I can understand, but what is the commander for? And why is lame in there?"

"Commander, first of all, I want to congratulate you. Your actions have inadvertently inspired the Red Alert System. My existence is based on this system. For my life, myself, and all future members of the Red Alert System, will have unlimited loyalty to you."

"Red Alert System... Are you saying that I play the game?"

"Yes. The Red Alert System has entered your reality and is now in your mind. You are also the highest commander of this system."

"I see. I think I understand a bit of what your saying."

David pinched his sore ankle once more in order to reconfirm he was not in a dream.

"So when I was unconscious, the red alert system entered my mind, and I also have the highest command authority. Does this mean that I can build a red alert base and build combat units?"

When he raised this question, Nana gave an answer.

"Handsome..."

"Stop, remove the word lame, it makes me feel embarrassed." David immediately corrected.

"As you wish, handsome commander."

Although no one could hear the word handsome but himself, when he listened to it straight, it did sound rather embarrassing.

"How about just calling me sir or boss, and leave the word handsome out for now. It makes things simpler."

"Okay, than sir it is."

"Sir, the red alert system has been implanted into your DNA, resulting in a few changes."

"What changes?"

"First, there are more options for production units than in the game, which is based on the actual situation in your country, and is much richer than the original production units."

"For example?"

"For example, tank options are no longer limited to rhinoceros tanks and apocalyptic tanks. Instead, adjustments are made according to your country. Other infantry units, air units, and naval units have been adjusted accordingly."

"For example, the aircraft carrier will be revised according to the actual aircraft carrier, and the highest production option will be adjusted to a super aircraft carrier that can hold 95 aircraft of various types."

When he heard that, David's eyes shined in anticipation. "Can I start producing now?"

"For the time being, the red alert system will start running from the lowest level. When the amount of units you command increase to the proper limit, the first level of authority will unlock. But, I can also provide you with more help personally."

"What level is my authority now?"

"You are currently a squad leader. When you have more than one class in your combat units, you will be promoted to platoon leader."

David did know a little about the rules, as they were a part of the game. The amount of combat members in a class was eight people. Therefore, he only needed to produce eight soldiers... No, when he had gained nine soldiers, he could improve his authority level.

"Then give me eight soldiers."

"Sir, because of existing conditions, you cannot build the physical building for the Red Alert System, so the virtual building system option is currently open. You can view it in the command panel."

(The virtual world, meaning the game he was playing before doomsday.)

This time, David was smart. In his mind, he thought about bringing up the panel, and sure enough, a panel appeared in his vision.

Just like the pictures in the game, there were four space fields, the main building, the defensive building, the soldier page, and the mechanical page.

The main building referred to the units that could be produced after the launch of the Red Alert base car, including power plants, barracks, chariot factories, empty finger departments, and so on.

Defensive buildings were walls, sentry guns, light towers, spy satellites, super weapons and so forth.

The soldiers page had a variety of arms, mobilized soldiers, army soldiers, seals, engineers, police dogs, spies, and so on.

The mechanical page was a variety of tanks, aircraft cannons, and ships.

After looking through the page, David found that the deployment was basically the same as in the game.

Before he had just started the game. After opening the base car, he built a power plant, barracks, and a mining camp. He didn't have time to build anything else, as it was the end of the day and the game was cut off.

However, the main screen of the game wasn't available now, and it just showed the units that he could produce.

In the main building, there were power plants, barracks, and radar.

The first two he already had, and the only thing that could be added now was the radar.

The defense page only had one wall available. The solider page only had one mobilizer. Because the chariot factory was not built, chariots could not be produced.

As David looked at it, he felt that something was wrong.

"Ah! Nana, why are there no mines?"

"Sir, there is no mineral in the virtual world, so the mine cannot be built."

David felt a bit of helplessness. But, if it wasn't available, he would have to skip it for now.

He looked at the cost for the radar. Five thousand gold. It wasn't the same as in the game, and there seemed to be a few adjustments.

The only combat unit that could be produced for the time being, was the mobilization of troops, which required one hundred gold.

"Then let's produce eight mobilizers."

"Sir, you don't have enough money right now, so you cannot produce for a while."

"No, my money? Wasn't there still a few thousand dollars in the game?"

"The in game funds are used for system improvement, so they cannot be used in the real world. The acquisition of funds requires the commander to collect them."

"Do you take the money yourself? Do you take cash?"

"According to the resources of the Red Alert World, the Commander needs to obtain precious metals like, gold, platinum, silver, and other various gemstones, which can be used in the Red Alert World. Banknotes are of no value here."

Nana continued lecturing David, "One gold coin in the system is equal to one gram of gold in the real world. Please pay attention to the collection."

David was dumbfounded: "I need gold and silver, but I don't have it."

He now knew that this system had a few black pits. But right now he had a sprained ankle, and hardly any money. Where could he get gold and silver?

Even if he had enough courage to fight the zombies, he didn't have enough strength right now.

Nana seemed to be prepared for it though: "Commander, you don't have to worry, as you still have a squad leader's package yet to be received."

"Gift package?"

David looked at the game interface and found that there was a bag-shaped thing flashing in the lower right corner.

With a single thought he acquired it. He received a message and a parcel immediately flashed into existence and showed up in the real world.

"The package was generated after the revision of your game funds. As the Red Alert System is being constantly updated, the package will also be upgraded. You now have a squad leader's package."

David was a little excited. He took the gift bag to the only single sofa in the room and set the gift bag on the coffee table.

He opened it carefully. He also noticed there were a lot of things inside.

The first thing that came into view was a pair of clothes and a pair of shoes, as well as a belt.

"This is... camouflage clothes?"

When he opened it, a row of data automatically appeared.

[Commander's uniform (squad leader): According to the squad leader's body traits, he has a slight protective ability to resist zombies.]

The camouflage suit looked completely new, but it didn't feel heavy in his hand. Seeing the introduction, David exerted some strength to try and tear the clothing, but nothing happened to it, and there was no sign of ripping.

The camouflage suit also had an epaulette, a silver rifle crossed over a thick folding bar, and a thin folding bar.

"Sir, because you are a squad leader, you have the right to wear the highest sergeant's badge. When you are promoted to a platoon leader, your badge level will be upgraded to the level of lieutenant."

Although he hadn't put the clothes on yet, David, who was particularly interested in military training, knew that they were not simple. They looked rather good too.

The quality was beyond his imagination, most likely because it was produced by the system.

In addition to clothing, there was a medium sized military bag. When David opened the bag, he couldn't see the bottom.

"How can I not see the bottom of this bag?"

[Commander's bag (squad leader): has one cubic meter of space. When you carry it, you will not feel any weight burden. Has a fresh-keeping function for food. The preservation capacity is equivalent to an ordinary refrigerator. Has anti-theft function, so other people cannot use.]

David was shocked, and then joyful.

This bag could be compared to a storage ring with one cubic meter's worth of space. Although it looked like a medium sized bag, in reality, it was a giant suitcase.

David had seen and read many movies and novels, so he knew what the meaning of one cubic meter of space meant.

"The system has produced a fine item."

David felt a bit emotional at the unexpected gifts. Soon, his eyes fell upon a gun. It was a revolver.

[Commander's gun (squad leader): 05-type police revolver with six rounds of ammunition, and no clips. The ammunition gets refreshed every 24 hours. The bullets are automatically loaded. Power level: (six shots can't even kill a dog) When dealing with people or zombies, you had better hit them in a vital spot.]

David knew this kind of gun. Once upon a time, policemen used them, but now they had long been eliminated from use, and held as collectibles. Their power was really not worth mentioning, and they belonged to the kind of guns labeled as trash.

Many people had said that it was better to use a sling-shot instead of one of these guns. Of course, this was almost complete nonsense, but it explained the amount of difference between this kind of gun and normal guns.

But for a young man who had never held a gun before, this was the real thing. The ammunition was automatically refreshed every 24 hours, which gave David a bit of confidence about the future.

He turned and looked at the final thing in the gift bag. It was a car key.

The moment he touched it, Nana spoke: "Because the building you are located at is not convenient for a vehicle to park in, whenever the key appears, the commander's car will automatically be parked outside."

David rejoiced in his heart, and grabbed the key. He was excited to see what kind of vehicle it would be.

[Commander's car (squad leader): Titan JH600B military cross-bike motorcycle. Holds two crew members. One driver is required. The first officer position can be replaced with a light machine gun. Any combat unit can be used as a driver. High quality, very hard to break. You can use a system gold coin for automatic repair, or you can go with engineer repair.]

Seeing this, David almost spurted blood.

It's the end of the world, the streets are covered in zombies, so what do you expect me to do with a bike-cross motorcycle!
