1 Chapter 1

In a small-scale old-fashioned rental building, David Reign sat in front of a computer. The house had a scale of more than 30 square meters, and apart from the bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom, there was a small living room too.

There was no TV in the living room, just a computer. The refrigerator in the kitchen was owned by the landlord. The computer was about the only thing in the house that was his own.

Old-fashioned chassis, second-hand LCD screen. The price was very low, but the configuration of the chassis was not bad.

He opened the web-page, and saw the news on the screen.

It was about the large meteor shower that had suddenly appeared three days ago. It had lasted all three days, and showed no signs of stopping, which was unique to the history of the world. There hadn't been any particularly large meteorites, and no impacts yet, so the world had not taken any countermeasures.

However, David felt a touch of sourness in the air for the last few days, and he didn't know if it had something to do with the meteor shower or not.

He clicked onto a popular forum and started to read.

"I am on the southern coast, watching the meteor shower. It is especially beautiful at night."

"I don't know what happened. My dog has been especially violent the last few days. It doesn't like to eat anything, and it never comes when I call it."

"It's said that seeing a meteor makes a wish come true, but there are just so many these days, and my desires are obviously not enough. What should I do?"

David looked at the comments and felt rather bored. He didn't feel like playing a multi-player game with anybody right now, but maybe he could play a hard drive game.

There were a lot of game icons on the desktop, and he clicked on a red alert icon.

It was a very popular war game that people from all around the world fought against each other with modern day weapons and armies. After a few hours of playing the game, David noticed something.

The light coming in from the window was brighter than it was supposed be. It was a cloudy day, but the sun shouldn't be shining that bright.

He got up from his chair and walked over to the window. He looked up to the sky and saw it was completely covered with flaming meteorites.

"What happened?"

A strong sour smell swept through, and before David could close the window, the smell had already filled the air.

A strong tingling sensation entered deep into his mind, and David's body slumped, and his head slammed the desk. When his body slumped in pain, he had also bitten his lips hard enough to draw blood. He tried to withstand the pain that was only getting stronger and stronger with every passing second.

But the pain was difficult to bear, and after a few seconds, David fainted.

Before fainting, he instinctively grabbed the mouse, and the other hand pressed the keyboard. As his body fell to the ground, the computer fell over.

The old-fashioned building's power supply was exposed when the extension cord he was using for his computer came unplugged. And when the computer fell over, a spark flashed, and the light blue current entered David's body.

******

By the time David had woken up, ten hours had passed.

"What... what happened?"

He rubbed his bruised forehead, and he suddenly recalled what happened before the fall.

"I was playing a game, and then suddenly I noticed a meteor shower, and a sour smell entered my room."

"My head hurts a bit, and my ankle. Must have sprained it when I fell."

His ankle felt more painful than his headache, which made him feel surprised. He rubbed his ankle and looked up towards the computer. It was no longer working, and it looked dark and burnt.

The power cord was pulled out of the wall just like it was when he fell.

"Not good, I don't know if it short-circuited or not. If it has, that will be troublesome."

It wasn't a big deal if the computer was broken. It wasn't worth the money anyway. But if the circuit had gotten burnt too, he would have too be responsible for repairs.

David looked up and noticed the light was still on, and he relaxed a bit. He also looked over to the clock on the wall. The time was 11 o'clock in the evening.

He got up and looked out the window. He felt something was wrong. The lights in the yard were lit. With the lights, he saw a mess throughout the whole area. Cars and bicycles were lying around, smashed till they would no longer operate.

Pieces of people were laying around in deep pools of blood and guts, and red splashes painted the whole area into a scene of carnage and destruction.

Newspapers and plastic bags were flying in the air, but other than that, there was almost no movement.

"What is going on here? Is this the scene of a murder? No, this scene is too big!"

David didn't try calling the police immediately. He had to figure out what was going on. He looked around with his eyes wide open.

In a dark corner, a group of people were bending over something, and they looked to be eating. David had good eyesight, so he could see clearly that there were two feet left right by the people eating.

One of them grabbed a piece of flesh that was dripping blood, and made an excited grunt, as it brought the flesh to it's mouth. The person eating was missing cheeks, and blood was smeared all around its mouth. It was obvious that it wasn't a human being.

A cold gust of wind brushed past David's face, and he instantly retracted himself back into the house.

"This is... this scene... Resident Evil!"

As a college student of the new era, David had seen many similar films. The people that were eating down there, were clearly zombies!

David knew this was no joke, nobody would go this far just for a joke. Which meant that this was very much reality.

After a few moments of brief panic, he suddenly felt worried about something. He immediately took out his mobile phone and called his parents.

He had left them in his hometown across the country, in order to study in the city.

The phone couldn't get through.

His sister didn't answer either. He looked at the phone again, the 4G signal had become 2G, which was almost equal to no signal.

"Why is such a thing happening? Is it broken?"

David was nervous, but he forced himself to calm down. The tension in the air wasn't helping.

He made a huge effort to calm his beating heart, and realized his current situation. He was a survivor. He had no network, no knowledge of what had happened to the outside world, what could he do next?

Although he had no clue, he gradually calmed down. Just as his heartbeat returned to normal, a voice suddenly rang out in his mind.

"Brain wave analysis... normal... heartbeat analysis... normal... blood pressure analysis... normal, you are in line with the binding conditions."

"Locking the commander candidate, blood type binding... DNA binding.. Bind successful! You now have the highest command authority."

David was stunned, the voice was very strange. There was no other person in the room, but he had heard it clearly. It was completely audible to him, and it sounded like a very elegant female.

"Who are you?"

"I am your private secretary and assistant, Nana. Good evening! The handsome lame commander."
