1 1 Who Knew

Yo what's good this novel is basically the journey of how I became the best basketball player of all time or in normal terms the GOAT.

My name is Frag. I know a pretty unconventional name especially because I'm Caribbean and when I was younger I got made fun of.

Now nobody can make fun of me back then it was a different story.

So let's start back in highschool when I first started taking basketball seriously.

In 10th grade I was unathletic and got close to no minutes in a game. The only good trait that I had was my excellent passing vision.

Last game of the 10th grade season there was 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter and I could tell the coach was about to sub me out. The score was 67-59, we were down obviously. The opposing team just scored a 3 on us.

We had no timeouts left so I knew we had to get the other team to foul so we could get the starters in. I walk down the court scanning the defense. Number 5 is leaning off our shooter. I realize they start playing zone defense.

Crossover, Behind the back, Drive. That's exactly what I do and a towering center stands above me. I pass to No. 23 in the corner, wide open. Everybody looks over in temptation number 23 bricks the shot. No 45 tries to grab the board. Over the back foul is called. Coach subs out No. 23 and No. 72 for our starters No. 5 and 1. Our captain complains to the coach why he was not subbed in for me. The coach doesn't answer.

Me and the have always had a good relationship since I always helped in make the plays but during games he never gave me extra minutes because of our relationship. I never received any special treatment. Even I am dumbfounded as to why he would leave me in but there is no time to think about that.

There point drives down the court as we are trying to settle in to defend. The point passes to the shooting guard as he also bricks a 3. Our center grabs the board and passes to our pf. Our pf is great at dunking and driving. Our pf ends up passing the ball to our shooting who gets an easy layup. The opposing teams coach calls a time up. Even then I still don't get subbed out.

Fast forward there's 1 min left in the game the opposing teams possession the score 71-69 there up. There point walks down the court slowing clearly trying to drain time. I reach but no call. Then the point tries to pass to the shooting guard but I intercept and throw a lob to our star small forward number 1. By this point our captain has stormed out after realizing that a rookie probably took his starting spot. The game is tied with 48 seconds left. There shooting guard starts with ball crosses up my teammate and posterizes our center. 37 seconds left, down by 2. I run down the court and we run a simple floppy play. I pass to our SF who bricks the shot. 27 seconds, down by 2. The opposing team is on a fast break they pass to there point who I stop dead in his tracks. He looks around but nobody is open.

He passes to there SF who stops dribbling and just holds the ball. Our SF was never the best on defense and did not have a good basketball IQ either so he never realized to get a jump ball call. The coach starts yelling and then our SF realizes what to do and starts holding onto the ball. A jump ball is called and we win it with 11 seconds left in the game I pass to our small forward who puts up a floater while being triple teamed. Our center gets an easy offensive board and passes to me with 3 seconds left. I run back to the 3 point line and throw up a hail Mary fading contented shot. It bounces once and goes in. The crowd erupts and everyone goes crazy. The opposing teams coach is furious and so is our team's point guard. This is my first experience of being good at anything really.
