4 Chapter 4: Questions

Kourtni examines the figure's boney hands. They were an ivory white, and she could see each joint in the hand. The phalange and metacarpal bones on each finger were completely exposed on each hand pierced deeply into her truck seat. The figure's hair was coal black and blew slightly in the wind, enough so that Kourtni could tell it was possibly of female descendant.

"Hello.." she managed to spit out softly, "who are you?" she questioned. The figure remained speechless. Not responding, yet not ignoring. It simply replied in a gesture of movement rather than speaking. It lifted its fingers up one by one and slowly pulled itself up to reveal a mangled sight.

Kourtni scrutinized every inch of this figure's face. The figure's forehead bone was exposed but the muscles around her eyes were still attached, the muscles were still a pinkish-red. It looked rather fresh as if the skin had recently peeled off only leaving the muscular layer before the bone underneath were to appear. Her eyeballs were still attached in her skull despite how poorly her tattered face looked they still seemed full of life as they shined a bright blue sky color. Her cheek bones were showing along with her nasal cavity being completely exposed. It was a hole in her face where her nose should have been, but it was gone. Inside her nasal cavity, you could see her nasal septum openly exposed inside of her head.

Looking down toward her mouth, her plump luscious lips were still intact, although the muscle around her lips was entirely revealed. Lower on her face, toward where her lower jaw and chin should be, was nothing but her bone. Her chin formed two soft points at the bottom of her face, however, this was also only bare bone.

Observing down her neck and body it was a mixture of total bone and muscle all over her tiny physique. The sight left a disturbed image in Kourtni's eyes everytime she closed them. She was shocked, stunned more than anything. She was concerned and disgusted by this figure's outward apperance. Her stomach tied up into knots and she felt her throat swell up. A single tear dropped from her face as she tried to swallow the lump in her throat.

"Please," she paused, contemplating her next words assiduously, "sit down." Her voice sounded anxious, yet fascinated to hear the figure's response. She knew it could talk, it was only getting it to speak back with her. She watched and waited, knowing a response would be imminent.

The figure shifted its weight and sat down in the seat of the truck. Right away Kournti noticed, no legs. A quick image flashed in the back of her mind to the legs she saw in the road a few feet away.

Was this the person she hit last night? Is she responsible for it being cut in half? How is this thing still breathing with all the blood its lost? Did this thing have something to do with the skeletal hand that left the mark on her ankle? Kourtni had so many questions..would this thing be able to answer? Is its speech impaired to only so many things it can say?

Kourtni looked at this thing..this skeleton, muscle massed figure. She kept hoping its eyes would meet hers but it just continued to look forward.

"I know you understand me. I know you talk." Kourtni informed the figure. "I'd like to know your name..can we start with that?" Kourtni became more and more exigent toward the figure.

The figure finally cranked its neck toward Kourtni's direction. The sound of its neck popping as it was turning was like the crackle of a fire. The figure opened its mouth and began, "Adelaide," she spoke at a leisurely pace, "Know youh half lot questions, don't need to cross-examine meh. Will answer youh best know how. Only thing, can not do here. Need somewhere more safe- way from cacodemons.."

"Cacodemons?" Kourtni questioned.

"Yeh, bah spirits who try to harvast youh last night." Adelaide paused, "Most cum at night, some during day. They feast on living, wes dead no good to them. They crush our heads and drain our power." She informed Kourtni again, "Not safe here to talk. We go here."

Adelaide brought her hand up and extended her index finger toward the woods. She commenced the words, "Aperta mundo in domum suam." She spoke in tounge. The ground started to rumble it felt like an earthquake. A small rip in the atmosphere grew rapidly into a circle and filled with a jello-like substance. The substance churred from black to a deep purple and glew a bright violet.

"Come." Adelaide commanded as she climbed down from the truck into the dirt.

She began to crawl toward the portal she casted and Kourtni found herself absolutely hypnotized by the view of this thing. She walked around her truck and toward the opening Adelaide had made.

"Adelaide," Kourtni stopped her sentence flow and awaited for her to look at her. Adelaide glanced at Kourtni and responded, "Home world where it go."

Kourtni thought a moment, then muddled, "An egress from Earth?"

Adelaide's eyes softened up and she felt Kourtni's hurt through those words. She only nodded as a response before disappearing into the liquid fusion. Kourtni took a deep sigh and then entered the portal after Adelaide.
