16 Last Color

The next morning Athena woke up, she started coughing continuously, she covered her mouth with her hand. Pallas, who was woken up by the noise instantly saw that Athena was nonstop coughing.

"Athena! What's wrong?" asked Pallas worried.

However, Athena couldn't reply, she kept coughing into her hand as she felt her consciousness slipping away. When she stopped coughing and released her hand, it was filled with blood.

Pallas was shocked at what she saw, Athena was just fine the other day now she was pale and was coughing up blood. Instead of asking what was wrong, she immediately dialed 999, the emergency contact for the hospital.

After telling them where they stayed at, she focused back on Athena who was on the verge of collapse.

"Athena! Stay awake, don't close your eyes!"

But Athena couldn't hear anything, she could only stare at her girlfriend's worried expression as her vision went dark.

When Pallas heard the door knock, she dashed towards the door and opened it revealing 4 people with a stretcher in their hands.

"Where is the patient?"

"In our room."

Pallas's heart trembled when she saw her girlfriend's motionless body on the bed. Tears were already flowing down her eyes as the 4 doctors put her girlfriend onto the stretcher.

"What is your relationship with her? We need to know so we can contact you easily." said the doctor.

"I'm her girlfriend." replied Pallas.

"I see, then would you like to come with us to the hospital?" asked the doctor.

"Yes please!" said Pallas.

"Alright let's go, we don't have time to stay here. AYE! Hurry up and carry her into the the back of the truck. We don't got time, she look too pale." said the doctor.

They immediately went to work as Pallas followed behind them. She could only hold her girlfriend's hands and pray that she would be okay as the tubes were attached onto her.

Once they made it into the hospital room, she was immediately taken to the ICU, ward for patients in need of critical care. Pallas sat on the seat and waited outside the emergency room for the news.

After a couple minutes, a doctor came to her.

"Are you Pallas Lysque or the patient's girlfriend?" asked the doctor.

Pallas immediately shot up, "Yes I am."

"I'm David, the patient's doctor. Come with me inside." said the doctor.

Entering Athena's room, she saw that Athena's color came back a little but she still felt the pain in heart.

David and Athena sat down on a chair and he started looking at the report.

"Do you know anything about the disease Athena has?" asked David.

"What disease?" asked Pallas

She was confused since Athena always looked fine to her, she never looked sick.

"You don't know about it?" asked Mark.

Pallas shook her head in reply.

"Let me explain it to you. As one of the best hospitals in the world, we the Vurse Hospital, has done countless research on diseases and worked to find cures for them. About 2 years ago, a new disease was formed, we call this the Cell Killer disease. It starts off by eating or killing a small bit of your cells slowly. But as time goes on, the eating in cells will become faster and faster and the reproduction of cells in the human's body wouldn't be able to keep up."

"And Athena has the Cell Killer disease. Looking at her condition, she seemed to be taking pills to hide the effects of the disease but it wouldn't stop the eating of the cell of some sort. I think that was why she always seemed fine to you." said David.

Pallas started crying, floods of thoughts entered her head when she heard the explanation from the doctor.

Why did Athena hide it?

Why didn't she tell her?

"I can tell what're you thinking, it's probably why she didn't tell you right?" asked David.

Pallas looked at the doctor shocked.

"Relax, I know you two are dating, it's written on the information. The reason I know because is my late wife also had it, but she never told me she had it. She passed away a year ago because of the disease. When I was breaking down and kept asking myself why she wouldn't tell me. I came across a letter."

"It said the reason she didn't tell me was because she didn't want me to worry. She wanted to spend her last year free of any worry and wanted to live happily. In the end, I could only forgive her. So don't bother with questions like that, your girlfriend probably had the same reason as my wife." said David.

"I'm sorry." said Pallas.

She couldn't find the right words to say.

"It's fine, if you have any questions, just ask." said David.

"Thank you. Is there a cure for the disease?" asked Pallas.

"Unfortunately not, the doctors and scientists have been working hard to find one but there isn't one yet." said David.

"How much longer does she have to live?" asked Pallas.

"A day at most." replied David with a grim expression.

Pallas's mood turned dark as the pain in her heart worsened.

"I'll leave you alone." said David.

"Thank you."

Pallas brought the chair next to Athena's bed and buried her face in Athena's arms.

Endless amounts of sobs could be heard from outside the door.
