1 Setting 1
In this dark cold prison where the only light available was the light of the moon that was coming from the window of this prison.
I watched my little sister who is sleeping at my side after exhausting herself by crying all day.
Seeing her tiny face that is all exhausted and bruised I couldn't control my rage but also my helplessness on how weak I was.
I clenched my fist so hard that the nails dug into my skin. I am angry at myself on being weak that I was not able to protect my sister from being captured or how I am unable to protect my mother from being killed.
My eyes turned red and water was about to gush out. I closed my eyes trying to control myself from crying. After a couple of minutes, I was finally able to calm down.
Opening my eyes again I looked around the room to see other children who are crying and elderly people who are trying to console the children. I averted my gaze from them and looked outside the window so that I will not lose my control.
Looking at the moon outside I slowly started drifting into different thought. I slowly started thinking about how it all started and how things happened like this.
The year 2030. The beginning of the World's End. It was June 22th, I still remember that day clearly because the day before was my 9th bday and Dad, Mom, Me and my little sister we went to Disney World and had a lot of fun. My sister 6th-year bday is also around the corner. My dad was out of town for work and Mom was cooking in the kitchen. I was playing with my sister in the backyard. When suddenly there was a huge shockwave that came out of nowhere. The tree in the backyard start shaking furiously, I was not able to keep balance and rolled all the way to the wall and hit it. Lucky enough I was not hurt bad, my sister is also in the same position but had better than me.
My mother rushed out of the house in a hurry and carried us both inside the house. Once inside she carried us both under the table and asked us to lay down there. The house was also shaking and the items on the table fell down on the floor one after other. My sister was cried hard while my mother was trying to console her. Even though I am not crying I was still shaking with fear.
After some time the shaking finally stopped. We waited for some time to confirm and came out from under the table. The house was a mess, there are broken pieces of different items on the floor and there was also the food on the floor that mom was preparing. After setting us down on the sofa mom rushed to the room to call dad, might be to ask if he was okay or to let dad know that they were okay.
Mom was anxiously walking around the house while waiting for the call to get connected but it seems she was unable to contact him even after multiple tries. Consoling us again mom turned on the TV to see if there is any news about what happened. I also turned around to see what exactly happened.
The downtown area of the New York city where most of the population of people live and work was destroyed. It was not like the destruction we assume when someone bombs the place, no, it completely has gone, they aren't even a single thing left of the downtown. The building, trees, people, cars, everything was completely gone as if they were burned to ash. They are just a barren land left of the place.
Seeing that mom screamed and tried calling again but she was unable to connect to him. I was also unable to control myself and started crying along with my sister. That is the place where dad went for works, he should be in the office there.
After trying some more times and seeing that she was not able to connect to dad mom collapsed on the floor crying not being able to hold back. I was also frightened, anxious and mostly confused about what was happening and if dad was okay or not.
It took a couple of hours for mom to calm down, after that she consoled us both. My sister went to sleep crying and exhausted. I and my mom are watching still watching the TV to see if we can find any more news.
It looks like it's not just in New York that this happened, there are also a couple of other places within the US and also outside where the same thing happened. Around 200-mile radius of the city was completely wiped out. Even though we are just near to New York, we also experienced the effects of it. It seems that this just the beginning to this events. Most famous populated cities in the world like Beijing, California, Seoul, Delhi, etc also experienced the same thing the cities were gone, everything was gone just an empty plot of land was left.
The military of the US govt took action immediately and mobilized different battalions of the army moved to investigate what happened. But everything turned to failure. It seems like all the people that went inside never returned, not only that but even the tanks planes etc also gone just like the city itself. The same thing was observed in different places in the world.
The president gave a speech and warm people to not come out of there houses. And it seems like all the major powers in the world were attending an emergency meeting to solve the problem.
That night after eating some food I went to my room to sleep along with my sister. But it looks like mom was not planning on sleeping any time soon. She was still watching the news and making some calls to different people.
Even though I did not under most of what is happening, I quickly slipped into sleep because of exhaustion.
Next day when I woke up in the morning I could still hear the sound of the TV in the hall downstairs. I quickly rushed down to the hall only to see that mom was still sitting in the same position her eyes red. Looks like she was crying the whole night, I turned to look at the news to see if there are any updates.
Just as predicted by the people it looks like this is just the beginning of the series of events. After the initial event, multiple other places also experienced the same thing but on a small scale than the original event. In some places, the 50-mile radius was wiped clean, while others lost 100 miles radius zone. They are more than 100 of these events that are reported throughout the world.
All the investigation turned no results. The only thing that they came to conclusion was anyone who enters the affected zone also never returned.

It has been 6 months since The Alpha Event. Three major things happened in these time, first, more than 500 of such cases has been registered throughout the world both on land and sea. Second, a month back people observed that plants are growing in the affected zones. In a span of the single month, most of the initially affected zones are now covered with thick forest, so thick that people cannot see past couple meter without entering the forest. Third the important of all, they found the cause and the person behind there events.
These are the three things that keep broadcasting on all the channels on the TV. They keep repeating the same things. But it seems thanks to the persistence of one TV channel, the crew was able to get insider details from the government on why the culprit did this.
Dr. Moon, he seems to be a leading expert in energy. He was well known in the scientific community as a mad scientist, as all the idea or thesis he did are ridiculous. 10 years back it looks like the community of scientist have thrown him out because of his ridiculous idea of creating a new type of energy that can be cultivated on human bodies and mutate them in to becoming strong and give them powers.
This idea was rejected by the community, even though the idea of cultivating the new energy is good, the new energy can only be created feeding it the material of any kind. That is once the process starts it is hard to control the outburst of the new energy as it can eat or break down almost all the materials in the world and convert it into new energy. So it cannot be contained in a closed environment. So the community has deemed it to be dangerous to experiment and rejected it.
But Dr. Moon seemed to not listen to this and have continued with his research and also started an illegal experiment with the approval from the community. Once the community found out about this they removed his license and arrest him for the charges. But three years after arresting him he escaped and his where about are not known since then.
Based the energy reading from this sites government with the help of the scientific community was able to find that this reading seems somewhat close to the reading Dr. Moon submitted 10 years back and were able to identify the culprit. Even though some of the characteristics of the event are same, more than 75% of it seems different than what Dr. Moon submitted in the community. So even the scientist was unable to say what consequence will the events throughout the world will lead to. All they can say is that they are working hard to see if they can solve the issue.

It's 2031, it been a year since the Alpha Event, and all the places in the world where the cities are wiped out are now filled with thick forest. And it looks like the forest is expanding outwards and spreading rapidly, in a span of 7 months the forest which grew on New Yore already expanded 100 miles more.
The government is doing all they can to stop the expansion of the forest. They tried copping the trees, burning them etc. but it looks like the forest kept spreading faster and the trees regrow in a short amount of time. It is becoming hard to control the spread so the government has ordered all the cities and places near to the affected region to evacuate and go to the new shelter provided by the government.
Today me, my sister and mom packed our bags and are on our way to meet our dad friend who lives in a rather far from the affected zones. Last night we packed all the things that we need to in the car and now we are on our way there.
We are stuck in traffic as all the roads are jammed with people leaving the city and moving. My sister is sleeping in the back and I was in the front listening to the new on the radio and browsing the internet on the phone. As we are waiting for the traffic to move suddenly we saw that the military and the police activity in the area has increased a lot and it seems like everyone is on high alert.
Seeing this sudden change in the military some of the people tried asking the officers if there is anything wrong but the officers seem to not given any proper reply and sent all the people back to there vehicle. Seeing this I taught I might find something on the internet I search for anything major that happened in the last couple of hours. As I taught 5 minutes before a video post from Facebook has gone viral and started making huge waves on the net.
Curious I played the video that has gone viral, mom on the side is also looking at my phone to see if I found anything. So I held my phone in between us that she can also see. It looks like a video lives streamed to FB on the phone and it shows a group of Media people was taking photos and video of the forest in the New York and the person taking the video was explaining thing he was streaming. Suddenly they were someone who shouted around drawing everyone's attention. So the video was focused on the person. The person has a terrified expression as his face as he was pointing at something. Seeing him the person streaming turned towards the forest to see what was happening.
Even though the Media crew was on the outer perimeter of the restricted zone we can still clearly see that from the forest we can see a lot of small things floating in the air outward. See that the person recording immediately ran towards his crew an asked what was the things that were floating in the air. The cameraman instantly zooms his camera to have a clear look at what they were. On the screen of the camera, it looks like those things that are floating seems to look like dandelion seeds floating.
Understanding that something major is happening all the media crew swiftly went to work to record was happening. The person streaming the video seems to be forgotten that he was still streaming and started doing his part of the job.
While everyone was busy suddenly people heard gun firing at the inner perimeter of the zone. All the TV crew and media crew immediately stopped what they are doing and looked at what was happening.
In the inner perimeter, we can see that a person was screaming and struggling as he is trying to pull something that looks like tree veins from their body. But they veins continued to spread fast across his body and swiftly covered him completely. The military personnel shot at the tree to make sure the whatever is happening might die. But the tree veins swiftly covered him and what looks like a huge flower started blooming from these veins. A couple of seconds after the flowers bloomed it suddenly jerked and spout out what looks like dandelion seeds and floated in the air.
Seeing this horrifying thing all the personal seemed scared that it was completely silent. The silence was broken with another scream of a military officer from who the tree veins seem to spread across his body, screaming he started shooting at a random direction. Hurting a couple of people in the process and bleeding because of it. Suddenly the people were bleeding found themselves surrounded with dandelion seeds that are floating towards them.
And then the horror happened the all the people who are shot was covered with dandelion and they started screaming as they got covered with veins and soon become plants with blooming flowers on the top.
Soon people understood what was happening and everyone started to run in every direction for there lives. But the screams started increasing as it was hard for the people to escape the dandelion seeds that are floating as there seems to be an endless amount floating from the forest to the surrounding. Seeing the person and media crew started running towards their vehicles to escape but it was already late by the time they realized to escape as the dandelion seeds already reached them. While running the camera that was recording fell down and seems to be broken because of it and stream ended.
Seeing the video was scared shit and my hands as trembling, mom also looks pale and frighted because of the video. It took us a couple of minutes for mom to snap out of it. Immediately she understood why the military and police activity suddenly increased. It looks like they are here to stop people from creating problems.
Soon everyone stuck in the traffic seems to have seen the video and realized what was happening. The place they were is not far away from the current forest and seeing that dandelion that is floating and traveling in the air if they do not escape before they start spreading to this region than they will be dead. Soon problem started rasing as people started becoming frantic and started hoking shouting and quarreling with others.
Soon the military personnel started taking action to control the crowd but fights and shouting escalated until someone pulled a gun and shot military personnel. Like adding oil to the fire soon everything became chaotic and many people started shooting at other or military.
Inside the car, my sister woke up due to all the shouting. But as the things got out of hand she started crying. Seeing her cry I also started while holding my mom. Even my mom looked scared and frighted. But seeing that the situation has gone out of hand and how everyone started running leaving their cars in the middle to leave this place as soon as possible. Mom quickly pulled us up and asked to take enough food, clothes, and water in carrying bags so we can also run and leave this city.
After getting everything we need me, mom carrying my sister quickly got out of the car and started following other to leave the city.

Its been three months since the dandelion incident which the people are calling now as The Beta Event. We are currently at a military shelter on our way to dad's friend's house. We let my dad's friend know that we are here, but it seems most of the roads to here are blocked and it became hard for him to come and pick us up. The military is providing transportation to people to control traffic and stuff. So we are currently waiting for our turn so we can leave this place.
Lot has changed in these three months, all of the affected places in the world started releasing the dandelion seeds and fasten the growth of the forests. So many of the people died in this past couple of months. The effects are more severe in countries like China, India because of their huge population it became hard for their governments to quickly bring the situation under control. So they had the most casualty of all.
Another major thing that happened was that the government was able to make a breakthrough in their research on these incidents. Even though it's not something that can help people in the current situation, still it shows that they are moving forward. They were able to find that the effects of dandelion seeds based on the current causes from it and the research data left behind by Dr. Moon.
It seems that anything is it living or non-living that comes in contact with the dandelion seeds with have the seed take root and grow to become a plant. These seeds absorb the things they plant on and convert it to new energy and release them out. They again grow new seeds and release them to drift and find hosts to grow.
In the initially affected areas of the Beta Event, most of the things are already turned into plant and forest, cars, buildings, roads etc. But it looks like the seeds that not affect the other plants or forest. After some research, the scientist came to the conclusion that the seeds only affects the thing that does not have this new energy in them. That is the reason that they are not affecting the forest or other plants.
After getting this information the government has stated that all people to be careful to not come in contact with the dandelion seeds. But because of this, it became hard for the government to send people into the effects area to collect samples or to keep watch for any more incidents.
One week before a huge discovery was made thanks to the help of satellites, the plants that are grown from dandelion close to the forest have fruits to them. The leak of this image created shock in many communities as this is the first time seeing the fruits to these plants as most of the plants currently only bloom seeds and scatter them. After finding these fruits the scientist is trying hard to get some sample of it so they might be able to find something out of them.
While was reading this news on my phone, mom told me to bring my sister so that we can go and have lunch. After coming here me and my sister made some friends with the other kids. Currently, my sister is playing with them. As for the lunch, the military is providing the food for the masses, but because of the dandelion seeds, most of the crops in the affected zones are absorbed by them and gave birth to the dandelion plants, which decreased the amount of food that can be harvested.
So the food that the government can provide has been limited so much that we get to eat food just once or twice if lucky a day. Because of the small quantities of the most that not sufficient to fill the hunger, there have been more thefts and fights whenever there is food distribution. To control this the military gave priority to children and their parent and elderly first only next is the regular masses. Even though this has brought opposition in most of them, but it didn't affect them much as they are children.

It almost has been 4 months since the Beta event, and our ride to my dad's friends home is tomorrow evening. Nothing major has happened apart from more dandelion seeds drifting in the are and the discovery of more plants with fruits to them. The government is still unable to get hands-on the fruits still.
It's almost 11:00 pm and my sister is sleeping with my mom, I am still browsing through the net for news. It looks like 3 shelters have been wiped out because of winds that are carrying huge amounts of dandelion seeds. Most of the people that are unable to evacuate in time got absorbed into plants.
After reading this I was about to go to sleep when suddenly the emergency alarm rang. Because of the hung sound of the emergency alarm, almost all who are sleeping woke up and small children started crying because of it. All the adults are anxious because of the alarm. After a couple of seconds of ringing the alarm stopped and an announcement was made saying that the government has predicted that huge winds carrying dandelion seeds are heading this way and they made reach as soon as 4-5 hours so the announcement said people to pack their stuff so that they can move to a different location away from here.
As soon as the announcement finished panic started as people started rushing to pack their stuff and parents with children are waking them up and hurrying to finish packing. In about 10 -15 minutes almost everyone has packed their stuff ready to move. Mom was holding my arm on the side and my sisters who are still sleepy on another side.
For the place in the vehicle for transport, the military has given first priority to the elderly and next to children. But it seems most of the elderly have given up their place so that more children can accommodate. Mom gave me my sister's hand and told me to be careful and that I should be brave and not to leave my sister and stay with my sister all the time. She said that she will catch with us soon and told me to not to worry about anything. I was crying hard saying that I don't want to leave without her but she pushed me forward and military personnel took carried us to the van where most of the children are crying for their parent like us.
After our van was full, it started moving without waiting for anything so that we can save from the storm of dandelions. After an initial couple of minutes, I calm down and trying to console my sister. Since the mother is not here I should be brave and take care of my sister.
As I was thinking about how my mom was now and if she successfully escaped or not the van move forward full speed ahead in the middle of a silent and dark night.

We traveled for almost 2 days until we reached the next shelter, this is a small shelter that was established after the Beta event. As we entered the shelter we can see most of the people working on expending the shelter to accommodate new people.
As we entered we are asked to give our details including our parents as so that they can help track them and send either of the parties to others. Holding my sister's arm I walked into the space allotted for us.
Its already had been 10 days since we came here but apart from knowing that my mom's group has temporary escaped and are currently in a temporary shelter. It seems they are moving slowly because of not having enough food and a large number of people.
Even though I was happy knowing that mom was safe but still I was anxious about her. I called my sister who is currently doing something on the phone and we both went to the announcement area. Today the shelter was supposed to get some new about the mom group.
As I with some other children and elders are waiting for an update, an officer walked out with serious expression. He told us that they lost contact with the group 5 hours ago and since then they were not able to get any news from them. Based on the satellite imagery they can see that the area that the group should have been having currently ravaged with winds carrying the dandelion seeds because of these they do have a clear picture of what happened and if the group escaped or not.
Almost instantly most of the children started crying. water started rolling from my eyes. I do not know what I was thinking, I just stood there in shock. My sister has started crying loudly calling for mom, but I was in no position to console her.
After couple minutes I cam out of shock but still not thinking straight, I taught of rushing towards the officer and beating him while shouting that the information he said was false but it looks like body still has some sense in it.
I tried consoling myself saying that nothing is confirmed, I mean even the officer told that they cannot confirm anything. It seems that it wasn't just me who I was thinking like that. As I saw around I was sure that most of them are thinking the same. After that, I hugged my sister as a way of consoling her. She hugged me back tight crying and calling of mom. I do not want to see her like that, and I also want to meet mom.
After crying till she has no tears left my sister slept exhausted. Looking at her I felt pain and clutched my fist hard remembering the last words mom told me. I will definitely protect here no matter what, I taught myself

Its been close to 1 year since we last heard anything about mom. I still kept trying to get information as possible. But it seems the government has declared them dead. My sister has changed a lot, she always looks dull and said, hiding all her emotion showing non outside.
In this 1 year we moved twice, now we are currently in a small town that was remade to be a shelter. I am currently heading to our room where my sister and I stay after having military training. Because of the major events in the past year, the military has almost forced every person to join them. So I joined the military will my sister is currently working in a hospital as an assistant and helping whom she can.
The Omega Event, that took the chaos in the world up by multiple levels. The reason behind is, almost a year from Beta event monster started popping out the initially affected zone hunting and killing what every the find in their way.
Initial the number of monsters that came out are small, even though killing them was hard still it was manageable with the current military power. But three months after that is in the last 4 months the amount that comes out increased progressively making it hard to control and kill them.
And It looks like these monster are hardly affected by any chemicals and physically killing them is lost easier. So the scientists are also worried sick and are put a lot more work by the government for results.
This is the reason that the government almost forced people to join the military so they can get as much as help possible.
In all these bad news there is still good news, because of the monster the scientists are able to gather enough samples and the research is moving fast ahead.
I reached the room unlocked the door to go in. My sister is already in the room and seems to be reading some book. Because of the sound, she turned to look at me but didn't say anything and continued doing her work. She hardly talks with anyone doing her own thing, I am not so sure how to speak up to her. I tried doing many things to cheer her up but it seems she is completely she herself from outside and looks like a machine.
I sighed and went on to do my work for tomorrow so that I will not be punished.

But only the fruits that are grown by the plants that absorbed children or old people are good for humans to consume. Scientist found that the energy of the fruits that are produced from adult humans is too much for normal human bodies to absorb.
Many human groups started collecting fruits to grow stronger. The cost of the fruits in the market has grown so much. But the supply is low. So many gangs of humans started kidnapping children and old people and planted seeds in them to grow the fruits. The government tried it best to stop the spread of this news and activities but it was not able to.

A group of humans leads monsters to the place where we are and attacked our base. A lot of people dies in the fight in this chaos the human's group kidnapped all the children and locked thin in the jail. (the place where the story started).
The Villian groups are forcing children and elder, people to eat the seeds of the plant to grow fruits that can be sold for high money in the black market.
Some people come and take my sister from me out of the cage. I tried fighting but they are as strong as the monster they beat me to near-death. I was not able to stop them from taking my sister. They also took some other childer and elders also along with her.
Being hopeless, I cursed the god, I cursed myself being unable to protect my one and only family. It was then a hung sound came from outside. I looks like some bombed the building where we are jailed. The sound of clashing sounded through the building. it looks like people started fighting outside. Suddenly a human in clock comes to the front gate and asks us to move back. He kicks the iron gate and the gate breaks and falls off.
He said that he came to save everyone and asks us to run. Even though I am not able to walk because of the beating. I bring all the energy I can muster and walk towards him limping and pleads the person to save my sister. He said he will save her and told me to first run outside and wait for her.
With the help of an old man, I got outside. The place is totally a disaster multiple people who covered their face are fighting with the villain gang. I was taken some distance from the old man. I thanked the old man for his help and told him to leave me here and run for his life. I need to wait for my sister. Even though he is reluctant he he still left me in a safe distance and went on.
After some time I saw my sister along with some of the people who went with her running out of the building. I ran towards her as soon as I saw her. Seeing me she also ran towards me crying. Assuring her that everything is going to be alright we made out of that place as soon as we can.
I and my sister went on our own and we ran until we are out of energy. We found a safe place and sat there to rest for some time and regain so energy.
Being anxious the whole time I was not able to see that my sister seems to be suffering. As soon as we sat down to rest she collapse. She has a high temperature and was not breathing properly. I tried I can but was not able to do anything. It was then I found green veins like muscles growing and spreading fast. I immediately understood that my sister was forced to eat the seed. And she will soon become a tree to produce fruits.
At the point, my brain shattered as there is no way to save her. All I can do is watch her die. Even in much pain my sister slowly opens her eyes and looks at me smile. She says that she is alright and that I should not worry about it. She says that I should be careful after she dies and I should take care of myself. She says to me not to do anything that can be dangerous and wants me to live a good life. She want me to fall in love with someone and have a family even though the world is dangerous.
After some time of silence she asks me to promise one thing as her dying wish. She said that after she trued into a tree and produce fruits. she wants me to have them so that even after she died, she can help me giving the strength that can protect me. She stretched her asking me to promise. I took her hand while crying my heart out.

I had one fruit the size of a palm in my hand. That was my sisters parting gift looking at the tree that was wethered after I took the fruit. I kneel down on my four and apologies to her and saying sorry for not being able to listen to her as I swore that I will take revenge on all the people responsible for her death. After that, I ate the fruit on my hand that my sister left me.
