47 The Cox Family

While Ivy was busy implementing her plan to make Rose drunk.

In the adjacent booth, the guys sat in silence as they tried to sort out and make sense of the conversation they heard.

''Cox family... huh...''

Oliver said as he started drumming his fingers on the pure oak table, a clear giveaway that he was doing some heavy thinking.

''It must be the Cox family from which the current General is.''

Roy said as he also looked serious, dropping his façade of a rich, ignorant and happy go lucky heir with a ton of family money.

''But...''

He said before hesitating.

''What?''

Oliver asked,

''Well, you guys know that I manage the entertainment industry with my family...right?''

''Yeah...so?''

Damon asked,

''Well... there are certain rumours about the Cox family. You guys may not know, but the current Cox family consists of only the old man Cox, his daughter and his granddaughter, no one else. The branch family was cut off a long time ago.''

''Nothing wrong with this!''

Jack snapped as he interrupted to protect his girlfriend's family.

"Yes... yes, I know! No one said that it was wrong.''

Roy said hurriedly as he tried to calm the intoxicated person down.

''Nothing is wrong with this, but the problem is that no one knows who her father is.''

"What?''

Oliver asked as he felt that this was ridiculous.

''There must be someone who people might have guessed to be the father....maybe a colleague or maybe a friend or maybe someone with whom she might be in contact with.''

Damon asked feeling it to be weird, because, for the people from the elite circle, even a dinner with a friend has high chances of turning into page one news of an affair.

''That's the problem, isn't it?''

Roy said as he continued,

"Two years ago someone anonymously mailed a report at our head office that the young lady Cox had gone on a mission and when she returned she was already pregnant!

Of course, my father saw the report and didn't publish it, for he knew what a stupid move it would be to anger the Cox family.

But, a small company didn't think so and had published it...''

"But I don't remember reading news about this matter?''

Damon interrupted, feeling confused for such news would be the talk of the town for sure.

''Of course, you wouldn't have because the morning the paper was supposed to go out, the tax department showed up at their doorsteps with the lawsuit for tax embezzlement.

After that, the company was destroyed, and the funny part is that the old man didn't even hide the fact that he was the one behind it.''

"Aren't things like this common in the upper circle? For all we know, it might just be rumours and someone was using it to cause trouble for the General.''

Damon commented.

''No.''

Roy said with confidence,

''I also saw the report at that time, and it was heavily detailed with even proofs for some incidents. Proofs like that can't be faked. I am sure of it.''

"How confident are you?''

Oliver asked as he signalled the waiter for another drink.

"Well, I was about ninety per cent sure....but after that idiotic company got shut down, my father got to know the weight of the documents in his hands and he then contacted the General about it.

The very next day, the General personally came down to our office as he took a look at the documents and the proofs. After that, he told my father that he did a good job not publishing the report and then left with it.''

"But why is it an issue about who her father is?''

Oliver asked as he felt that they were missing something crucial about the story.

''But...the important question right now is that how do the two of them know each other?''

Roy said as he tried to change the topic upon seeing the dirty looks Jack was giving him,

And the others also nodded to let this matter go, but not long before Oliver had sent a text to his assistant to investigate this matter.
