Chapter 9 - HIS CONFESSION WHILE DRUNK

"Oh really? I don't believe in karma."

Hearing Tommy spoke like that, she should have known and memorized his character. Tommy was a typical man who was always completely skeptical of things if he didn't feel it himself, then he wouldn't feel anything. Unless her heart spoke, then that was what he believed.

Becca put the medical utensil back in its place and then she immediately left Tommy's room. She felt there was nothing she needed to do here.

"Where are you going?" asked Tommy.

"Out. Back to my desk."

"I'm still in pain, Rebecca."

"No, you are not."

The sound of the door closing was loud. Becca actually returned to her desk with a long sigh. She even felt thirsty when she faced Tommy.

The mineral water in the bottle runs out. She stood up and went to the pantry to refill it. Surprisingly, she always met Drake in the pantry. And realizing in the previous meetings, even before she broke up with Tommy, Drake must have always been earlier in the pantry than her.

"Why don't you separate Tommy from Eddie?" Becca asked.

"I didn't know they were fighting. I knew when Anie told me. But when I was about to go over, you were already there, Becca."

Becca was silent for a moment. She then closed the bottle of mineral water and turned around when Drake looked at her.

"What?" Becca asked.

"He's sorry," said Drake.

"Who's sorry? Who do you mean?"

Drake raised an eyebrow. "Don't you feel it, Bec?"

"I don't understand."

"Tommy regrets agreeing to break up with you. Boredom is normal, your beauty fade is just an added excuse. Because when a person is bored, whatever he sees, it doesn't look perfect."

Becca chuckled and smiled crookedly. "Why did you have to tell me? You know, I haven't trusted anyone since the affair. And with you talking like this, I really don't care, Drake. You're just wasting your time. You just want to make me okay, right?"

Drake seemed to be completely wrong about telling Becca. Yet it was very clear that he was telling Tommy what he could see. He clung to Tommy more than Becca. But Drake also knew that it wouldn't be easy for Becca to trust anyone.

"You know Tommy as a guy who's proud to say something about feelings, Bec. You should understand him."

No words left Becca's lips. She left the pantry because she didn't want to prolong her conversation with Drake in her shattered state. Because trusting someone, for now, was very difficult for her.

Although in another sense, she was actually very curious about Drake's story. If she were still the girl she used to be, so chatty and genuinely cheerful, she might have urged Drake to tell her all about Tommy. Because in the past, when talking about Tommy, it made her day good and excited because she loved him so much.

"So you really made him regret cheating on you?" Ashley asked as Becca made time for her at her friend's cafe.

Becca told her many things about her drastic changes in Tommy's eyes. And her friend was so enthusiastic to listen.

"I think so. Because that's how I see it," Becca replied.

"Make him as sorry as possible, Honey. He has to look like he really did wrong to cheat on you."

A smile framed her face. She didn't expect much about Tommy's regrets. But if he really regretted it, then what she had done all along was right. And if he was already sorry, then he would beg for love from her.

"But anyway, I don't want to be so hopeful. Because wishing can only hurt someone because of the hope itself," Becca replied.

Ashley gave Becca two thumbs up. She agreed because that was how it should be. Couldn't be so hopeful that it ends sadly.

"By the way, it's getting late. Don't you want to go home? He must be looking for you," Ashley said.

Becca looked at her watch. It was already eleven o'clock at night and in the past, Tommy always forbade her to be in the apartment before ten o'clock at night, unless she went with him, then she was free to make curfew.

"Ah, just a minute. Besides, he must be asleep," Becca said.

"Okay. Enjoy your time, I will serve other customers."

Becca opened her cell phone which she hadn't opened since she was chatting with Ashley. Her face wrinkled when she saw the many messages from Tommy asking her why she hadn't come home and where she was.

She smirked and ignored the message. She did not expect that Tommy was waiting for her. But it would make it easier for her, considering how she had changed to Tommy.

And an hour later, exactly at midnight, Becca returned to go home. This time she was sure that Tommy was definitely asleep. Because she no longer receives messages from him.

Luckily for her, she lived in New York. A city that never sleeps and she felt not alone and not lonely.

But as soon as she entered the hallway of her apartment, silence fell. She opened the door to her apartment with the key card she also had. The situation inside was dark. Only the kitchen has little lighting.

Becca chuckled because Tommy never wanted to close the window on the balcony when he slept. And she often found it in an open state so that the outside air came in. Even though the apartment was already using air conditioning.

"Seems like being single frees you from your curfew, Rebecca."

Becca gasped when she heard Tommy's voice sitting on the other end of the balcony. She still needed some time to manage her surprise. She thought it was some kind of ghost who was speaking as Tommy. But when her logic came into play, she knew that her thoughts were ridiculous.

"You're awake?!" asked Tommy.

"How can I sleep if you're not back, Rebecca?!"

The tone of anxiety was heard and reached Becca's heart. She missed the attention. She missed the worry on his face. But her heartache for the first time was bigger than anything else.

"Well ... I'm back. So you better get some sleep," Becca said, trying to act normal.

But Tommy quickly grabbed her hand when Becca turned around. And that action made her turn towards Tommy, came into contact with him and they stared into each other's eyes. No one spoke because Tommy was busy looking at her, while Becca tried to free herself from Tommy.

"Do you know how frustrated I am with your changes after our break up, Rebecca?" asked Tommy, who smelled the alcohol from his bad breath.

"You're drunk, Tom." And Becca knew, tomorrow morning, Tommy would surely forget what he had spoken to her tonight.
