9 What is today?

Anoi opened the window and slowly, little by little, breathed in the fresh air. She enjoyed every last bit of it - perhaps because it was so fragrant revealing a hint of a morning rain, or perhaps because it contrasted so greatly with the stuffiness in that gory room.

If someone ever said that she would have an opportunity to relive her past, she would think they read too many fantasy books. But such was the reality, and it was a perfect chance to change herself. She won't continue on living as a wimpy and weak person.

But first, what day is it?

Anoi couldn't remember anything specific happening today, in fact, there were no recollections of it. Sure, she had some memories, but thinking about what would happen today, she had no clear idea. It was like wondering what she had for breakfast a week ago – zero memories.

It puzzled her why did the universe decide to "wake her up" on this exact moment in her life.

Well, she won't understand the reason anyway, might as well just feel grateful for this second chance.

Anoi started searching for any diaries, calendars, planners and bullet journals. But, there were none – there was no such habit in her previous life.

Now, she had yet to become the pitiful office mouse, constantly struggling to pay off the numerous debts she get herself into for the sake of her loved ones and trying to save up for a car. At this point in her life, she was supposed to be a fresh college graduate. Seeing there were no other clues at home, Anoi wanted to meet up with any of her friends, to somehow figure out what she was actually doing with her life right now.

"Where is my phone?"

Anoi took great care when it concerned her electronic devices and kept her phone and laptop for years. In fact, her phone was about 6 years old. Meaning, that today, after her rebirth, it would be around one year old – relatively new. It also meant that it looked the same, so Anoi knew what to look for.

She usually kept it on the table - a quite old habit of hers. So she started off with looking though the stuff lying on the table: here were some dog-eared books, messy drawing and tons of unfinished sketches.

For the time being, they weren't that interesting, so she pushed them aside, finally catching the glimpse of her phone in a white case. Her hand quickly reached out for it. Looking at the screen, the fingerprints in blood resurfaced in her mind. Anoi suppressed the wish to throw the device away.

It was her luck that the past her didn't care much about the security and there was no password.

How funny. Previously, this carefree nature of hers led to her accounts being hacked by her friend, revealing lots of embarrassing pictures to the web.

"Well, I don't intend on repeating the mistake," Anoi said to herself and quickly turned on a lock screen option.

There were no reminders. She checked and there were also no messages whatsoever. In spite of that, Anoi was surprised to discover a dozen of missed call. All from the same person – her best friend back from college years. She felt a slight tingle in her heart.

"Should I call her back?"

And just as she was wondering whether to call back now or later, the phone showed an incoming call.

Anoi trembled in expectation of hearing the usual melody.

And yet, it was a regular ringing sound.

"Ah, right, I haven't written that piece yet." Anoi let out a sigh and relaxed her hands, that unknowingly to herself, she clenched into fists. After the torture, the melody became a part of her monstrous memories.

"I wonder if I should ever record it again." Anoi said before answering the call.

And immediately afterwards , she heard the voice of her bestie, Jackie, shouting at her:

"Anoi, you aren't lost, are you?? Get here right now! I can't believe you are late for your blind date!"

Oh.
