19 Chapter 4

Tonight was the inauguration ball for the Squall and the candidates. He goes back to his room to change for the ball. When he finishes dressing, he sees Sephie waiting for him.

"Hey, are you going to the ball?" Squall didn't like going to these types of events. He would rather stay in his room where it's quiet or arrange more training with his gunblade. But he no choice since this was mandatory. He went with Sephie to the ball. When they got there, they both went their own way. Squall looked for a quiet where no one was around so he could be by himself. The waitress came by with champagne and gave Squall a glass. He sat there drinking his glass when Zell came to disturb his quietness.

"Hey, man. We made it." He gives Squall his hand for a shake, but he just kept on drinking his glass of champagne.

"Man, you haven't changed a bit. Still the same as always." He walked away, shaking his head. Squall continues to drink his glass and watch the many SeeD's and other candidates pass near him. Squall The he hears Sephie's voice ask Zell a question as he was passing by.

"Hey, do you want to join the Garden Festival?"

"You know what I remember? I have something to do for the instructor. Sorry!" And Zell ran off before she could say anything else. Sephie saw Squall stand up against the wall. She gave him a go and saw if he would agree to join.

"Hey, Squall. Would you consider joining the Garden Festival?" Squall was not the one for joining any activities at Balamb. But since she had been doing her best to get people involved. He would help her out.

"Sure. Why not." She was so excited to hear him agree. But she let him know he could help whenever that had a chance.

"I understand we're going to be busy doing SeeD's stuff. But whenever we get the change, let's make this the best festival." Sephie left him to join the rest of the party. He sat there looking out the window when a woman noticed him. He didn't know who this woman was, but she was trying to get his attention. She was dress in an ivory-colored silk dress with eggshell color shoes, and she had brunette hair, shoulder-length. Her skin was dove colored, silky smooth. Squall didn't notice her at first till she waved at him. Then she says something to him that caught him off guard.

"You are the only good looking guy I have seen all night. Dance with me?' Squall wanted to know why did she want to dance with him? Another thing he didn't dance. And he couldn't dance. That when she noticed he was responding to her question. Then she started playing a game with him.

"Look in my eyes. You will like me. You will want to dance with me." She started to annoy Squall. But then she was so cute he had to laugh at her a little. Then she grabbed his hand and dragged him on the dance floor. This woman caught him. Why was she so forward with him? And why did she want to dance with him? There were pretty great-looking guys out here to dance. Why him? The moon shined above them as he was dragged onto the floor by this crazy woman. She and Squall got into the middle of the dance floor. She put his right hand on her waist.

Then she grabbed his left hand and put it with her right hand. Then they started to dance, but it wasn't going well for Squall. And he kept stepping on her feet. Then she put him back into the stance and tried again. Squall tried to leave the dance floor because he had enough of looking like a fool. But she wasn't giving up. She went after him, and they tried it again. He was trying to get the steps down he ran into fellow candidates dancing. She gave him a look, and they went back to dancing. She looked at him, and then Squall started dancing. He was getting the moves down this time. And she smiles as the two of them dance. They were closed to the end of the song when firecrackers lit up the sky. Squall admired the sky while she looked at him. Then she noticed something behind him. Then Squall saw her expression. She must have recognized someone. But whom could she have known among the candidates? She excused herself from him. And he watched as she walked away. He thought, who is this woman?

After she left, he went to get some air out on the balcony. He wanted to enjoy the quietness for a little while. The Quistis noticed him out by the balcony, alone.

"You have to be one of my best students because that dance was perfect." Squall didn't think anyone would notice that he was on the dance floor. So he didn't want to be rude, so he had to accept her compliment.

"Thanks." Squall wanted to be left alone, but knowing his instructor, she wanted to talk about something like feelings. And he didn't care to talk about how he felt.

"You want to tell me something?" When he said that to her, she got agitated.

"Oh, so you can dance with a stranger, but can't even talk to me alone for five minutes?" He got annoyed with her line of questioning. Who can care less about how she felt? He wanted her to get on with what she wanted to tell him.

"We have an instructor to student type relationship. It's kind of weird when you don't say anything." Quistis forgot that she was like that sometimes. But then she didn't know how she would explain to Squall that they wouldn't have that type of relationship anymore.

"I want you to meet me at the 'secret area.' It's at the back of the training center. I know it the spot where all you kids go to talk after curfew." Squall was curious why she wanted to go there. Did she want to go they and let the kids know they were violating the rules? If that was the case, he didn't want to be bothered. Leave the duty for the disciplinary committee.

"No, that's not the case. I need to ask you're advice on something." She knew that this would be her last order to him. So he decided he would go ahead and meet her there. Squall went back to the room to change into his casual clothes. He meets Quistis in front of the training center. They get through after fighting a monster or two. When they get to the 'secret area,' kids were already there. They find a corner where it is quiet, and they lean up against the wall.

"So what is it you want to talk about?" Squall hope she didn't want to talk about how he was feeling again. Cause if that what he came up here for, he could go back to him and sleep. She asked him for the time. And he looked at his watch and noticed it was after midnight.

"As of right now, I am no longer your instructor. I am an official SeeD member." So this was the big news she had to tell Squall. She could have said that to him early instead of making him come here.

"Oh, so that's it?"

"Do you have to say it like that?"

"Well, since it's occurred. You have to do what other say." Squall could sense something else was bothering her.

"They said I lack leadership qualities, and that is why they let me go as an instructor." Squall didn't want to hear her nag about how she became this and that by this age. He just wanted to go to sleep. She stopped talking cause she notices Squall wasn't paying attention.

"Are you done? I don't want to talk about this. And what the hell can I do anyway?" What was he supposed to do about her problem? He had other things to worry about. He wondered who that girl was at the party and the woman he met early that morning after training with Seifer. Not about her getting fired from being an instructor.

"I'm not asking for your opinion, but to listen." This upset Quistis. She knew that Squall was not sociable, but she wished he was so insensitive to other people's feelings.

"There aren't times when you want to share with someone how you feel?"

"Everyone should take care of themselves." Quistis knew it was no use trying to get Squall's mind. But she hoped one day someone would change his view on things. He got tired of talking to he lefted Quistis behind. Quistis stayed behind to think.

"Maybe they were right. I don't have the qualities of a leader." She followed behind Squall when they hear a creature yelled.

"Someone might be in danger. Let's go see." Squall and Quistis see a woman who is trapped by a monster. They fight the creature. She got up and dusted herself off. Then two men who were dress in a white uniform came from out of nowhere. They surrounded the young woman.

"Ma'am, it's not safe here. We should leave." The lady agrees with the two men. Quistis wonder who that wonder was. They left the training before they got into any more fights. They made it to the entrance.

"Not everyone likes you, Squall. We all can't be loners?" Then she took off. And he thought to himself say who. It was late and needed to get back to his room. He would have a busy day tomorrow. He would have his first mission as a SeeD member.
