Chapter 3

“No. I don’t need a day or a week. This isn’t about needing time to think.” Kyle engaged Jonathan’s gaze then. “I have been thinking about this. You and I are so different. I just don’t see it working out, not for the long term.” He smiled. “You’re a great guy, a real catch. I know I’m lucky to have you, but I know our differences, even some of the things that drew us together in the beginning, will eventually pull us apart.”

Jonathan shook his head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. How can you say that? And why, suddenly, are you pulling away? Why are you afraid to see what the future holds? Maybe you’re right, maybe this wouldn’t work out for the long term. I doubt it, but hey, anything’s possible. But to just throw this good thing we have away because it might now work out at some future point? That’s crazy.” Jonathan gnawed on his lower lip, desperate to keep his tears at bay. “If you loved me, you’d at least want to stick around to see where this would take us.”
