28 Recruitment

Gilgamesh awoke in a newly made bed one fit for a king. Getting up from the soft silky sheets, he looked out the palace window and saw the beautiful city he had made surrounding the mountain Mashu and looked on with pride.

When he had killed the noble dragon he had taken his head and mounted it above his newly minted city gates as a warning for the dragons to come.

Gilgamesh now knew what he must do. He began to dress in a white cover like robe spun out of royal spider silk. He had found that normal clothing was too easily torn with his newfound strength.

Ever since he had seen that vision of his Lord Vex, the transformation, that had begun since his village had been burned, was completed and he was filled with new strength and knowledge about the universe.

His senses, that were already very acute before, became even more so. He began to see more colors on the electromagnetic spectrum and smelled even the very faintest pheromones that humans gave off.

Walking down one of the main spire structures that he had created, he walked to the room that accommodated the old village chief. He walked into a vast room that he had originally intended for his royal advisor when his kingdom was complete.

'A room much to nice for an attempted murderer,' Gilgamesh thought.

As if reading his disdain the depressed village chief said, "You should have killed me when the rest of my villagers died, I belong in the dirt with the rest of them."

"Yes, you do," said Gilgamesh simply.

"So why didn't you kill me?" The village chief asks in a gravily voice without a change in his expression.

"Because you have to add meaning to the human lives lost because of you," Gilgamesh said in commanding tone with subtle anger behind it. The pitiful chief could not even make eye contact with him.

Gilgamesh said, "Look into my eyes!" The chief did and saw the glimmer in Gilgameshes copper eyes that seemed to pierce his soul and forced himself to keep eye contact

"Dying is the easy way out. I won't let you take it after you killed the people you were supposed to lead. You will come with me and you will be a part of the effort to save humanity, or I will lock you in a dungeon to rot until humanity becomes a booming civilization. A civilization able to stand up against dragons or any other threat." Gilgamesh said with determination on his handsome face.

The day before in Vex's pocket dimension

Lieutenant Scocabes knew that Vex was powerful but the reaction of the universe had to his falling was absolutely ridiculous. He had been running an experiment on a dragon on the recently created moon base when he felt time itself begin to slow and raw unadulterated power surge in the created force from a hundred light-years around.

When he arrived at the source of the power surge, he broke through the weak dimensional barrier surrounding commander Vex's pocket world. Sitting on a crumbling throne, he saw the great commander Vex - the discoverer of worlds, the universe's eldest living being, the arbiter of civilization.

The other lieutenants broke through the weak dimensional barriers one at a time all seeing the same sight.

"What have you done?" Lieutenant Scobes felt fear as he felt the universe react to Vex's death throes. Determined to stop whatever the commander was planning, he launched a ball of pure created energy that was disrupted by Lieutenant Mavine who was part of the subterranean research unit.

"You dare attempt to kill the Commander?" Mavine had always admired and respected commander Vex and those emotions had become something more over the period of time they had spent traveling the universe. She would die before she would allow Scobes, that silver-haired bastard, to kill the commander in his moment of weakness.

"It is okay Mavine. It's not even as if he can kill me prematurely even in my unstable pocket dimension. I have seen the truth of this universe. A truth that can be seen from looking at the humans," Vex said in a labored tone.

"I know now that being an apex existence doesn't matter. Nothing truly matters when time is infinite. I've explored the universe since it's creation before life was even present. I now know that there is only one solution to the suffering of constant consciousness." he then whispered, "Oblivion," before his realm crumbled even more rapidly.

Suddenly the realm was about to implode. Verran Vex commander and discoverer of earth vanished in a flash of light along with his realm, but not before an invisible slither escaped into Mavine's head as she and the rest of lieutenants were thrown out of his realm.

The lieutenants were now without a commander.

Author's note:

If anyone is wondering why you haven't seen the baby he rescued from the burning village it is because Gilgamesh dropped her off in a village on the way before confronting the dragon.
