31 Mavine's Love

Mavine had gotten a surprise communication from Vex when he and his realm had vanished. She kept her expression neutral when she received it. It simply stated, "Protect the humans! They are more important than you know. Find Gilgamesh and you will know what I mean."

The lieutenants looked lost as they realized the commander had died. There hadn't been a Parthian death in over 30,000 interstellar years. The last one happened during the last great Tribal war.

'How could he possibly still be thinking about humans after death?' Mavine thought slightly angry that the man she loved could not show more emotions toward her.

Though Mavine was slightly surprised by his nepotism toward humans it was part of the reason that she had loved him. While Vex tried to hide his kind nature, he was perhaps one of the most caring of all the Parthians she had ever known. He did not treat the lower races like animals to be used as resources but instead like children that needed to be guided.

But then there was that day when he witnessed the cruelty of the Parthian Empire. He had recently discovered an alien species that were humanoid and sexually compatible with Parthians. The Parthian empire not only demolished their Galactic empire after Vex found them but also enslaved their race and sold the women as sex slaves. The sales price were pieces of knowledge that Parthians had hidden away for themselves. Knowledge was power after all. That was true in general and for the Parthians literally. (Enlightenment worlds only told you general information everyone knows.)

Mavine disappeared from the space where Vex's inner world once was and teleported to her inner world leaving all the other lieutenants. On her departure, she only exchanged an icy stare with lieutenant Socabe. Only now she realized how much she hated him. Mavine appeared in her inner world that she had designed to be a magma-filled world with a volcanic palace with an intricate flower throne.

A maid appeared before the throne presenting her master a wine-filled chalice that Mavine took and began to sip. Mavine made a viewing screen appear in front of her and in it she saw Gilgamesh. The once grey-eyed man had drastically changed. Even though the viewer, she could see an aura more powerful than any that Vex had before he died. He had an untamed, untapped power about him and a golden luster she found very similar to the Vex. This shocked her deeply. A Parthian granting lower beings access to created powers was something usually only safely done by Royals.

'Is this the reason he died for a human' she thought bitterly.

She had loved Vex but Vex had never loved her. He told her once that he didn't think he was capable of love but if he could love anyone he would love her. She knew he was patronizing her but she couldn't help love him anyway. Seeing where Gilgamesh was heading she decided she would have to meet him in person and so she left her realm leaving the maid slightly startled by her sudden departure. Before the maid regained her calm, she walked the halls of the lava lit throne room and disappeared.
