25 Building a Kingdom

A man with copper eyes, white-golden hair and smooth silky skin, wearing golden armor and carrying a demonic sword, walked across the grassland carrying an old man with burn lacerations across his back. The wind could be heard along with the crunching of gravel as the man in gold continued to walk towards a large mountain in the distance. Screams could be heard across the plain as there were people being eaten by a dragon the size of a mountain that had razed the once beautiful village.

Gilgamesh looked towards the mountain and heard the people that were screaming but he watched the scene expressionless. 'These people have brought this upon themselves. They could have told me about the dragon and asked me to slay it for them but instead, I was stabbed in the back and left for the dragons as an offering.' He took measured steps in the direction of the screaming villagers.

"Wait here old man," Gilgamesh put down the wounded old man and began to sprint towards the mountain at an inhuman speed. As he bounded towards the ominous-looking mountain in the distance his face took a determined expression.

A red and orange colored dragon on top of the mountain tasted the air before saying in a deep booming voice that could be heard from miles around, "YOU HAVE COME DRAGON SLAYER TO YOUR DOOM!"

A figure zoomed off the mountain and the mountain looked as if it had shrunk by a third as the large dragon began to fly towards the running Gilgamesh. Blood of one of the villagers that it recently had eaten still dripped from its mouth.

Gilgamesh swung his sword at the dragon. He moved at supersonic speed, filled with his golden energy and a powerful intent to kill. As they clashed, the noble dragon was thrown back 100 meters, crashing into the ground with only a small gash where its impossibly tough scales were split apart.

Gilgamesh was shocked when he was pushed back 100 meters, creating a crater in the ground as he fell.

As Gilgamesh got up, he felt his bones heal and the torn flesh on his back regrow. His armor was still intact. Not wanting to give the dragon a chance to recover he ran toward it only to run towards a maw readying to spew flames at him. The dragon was prepared to disintegrate him. Gilgamesh realized that he would not be able to stop and avoid the flames. He felt his heartbeat increase and his eyes widened as he realized that if he died now he would never be able to bring the humans together to form a kingdom. His dream of a united front against the other races would forever evaporate. Flames poured forth from the mouth of the dragon, encompassing and incinerating everything it touched.

Just as the flames were about to touch Gilgamesh he disappeared.
