7 Chapter 5 : Manwols Ascend --------------------------------------
3 Months have passed since the council meeting.
Up till now everything was progressing smoothly.
In the first month, some children had developed mild fevers while other took time adjusting to the new environment. They recovered soon enough, the medical facilities developed in the base were already equipped to face a situation like this.
Kai's training continued regularly and at the end of two months, the improvement he showed was more than satisfactory.
His high affinity for the light element allowed him to use his drive to heal not only himself but about 10 others fast enough for them to get back into the fight in 30 seconds.
Though healing deep wounds was still not possible, this was sure to give humanity a huge edge against the Manwols.
Viole, started working for the council and all the council members tried their best to make sure she didn't feel left out.
Agriculture and supply stocking was also progressing steadily. By the time 3 week's worth of original supplies had been exhausted, Yena had successfully been able to make their colony self dependent, saving the rest for dire situations.
Zico's combat training was also progressing satisfactorily. Everyone understood the gravity of the situation and gave it they're best.
(Yuna panting)
"Sir, can't we call it a day now? You let everyone go already..."
"Yuna, you're the only Dual Driver we have. Unlike others you have to master 2 elements, so isn't it natural for you have to put in more work than others?"
"Ye... Yes... sir but I've been training for 5 hours straight now..."
"5 hours?! woah! time flew by pretty quickly there. You should've told me that before, sorry, go ahead it's already last lunchtime. Tell Yena I messed up, she'll help you."
"Okay sir."
"Yuna, listen come in an hour late for the evening session, consider that as compensation."
"Thank you Sir!"
Yuna, naturally had to work much harder, mastering two elements in a span of 4 months isn't child's play.
But it wasn't a question of trying or not, it was simply a matter a life and death.
Either create a counter-force for the Manwols, or get destroyed by them. The situation couldn't have been simpler.
"Did you really not notice the time Zico?"
"Of course I didn't, and where did you suddenly pop out from?'
"You don't have to lie, even I know she's one of our best shots, but overworking here isn't going to get us anywhere."
"We have a situation come to the control center in 10 minutes. Yena's ready there, they've started."
The last line was enough to scare anyone. Zico changed his outfit and dashed to council and entered the control center.
"So you're finally here, how's the training going?"
"To be honest, they're learning pretty quickly, they can already take down a crowd of 50 B grade Manwols in the simulator."
"50 in the sim, hmmm so I guess they'll be able to handle a group of 20 B grade Manwols in real combat right?"
"More than 20, if they can perform at their best."
"Now what did you mean, by they've made their move. You weren't serious right?"
"Xander was 100% serious, see for youself..."
The screen displayed a radar with 3 green dots.
"Are those what I think they are?"
"If Manwols is what you think they are then, yes. We had already anticipated them to start moving to the north about this time, so it isn't that big of a surprise."
"But the fact remains that they have began they're journey from the south."
"What's the radius of this radar?"
"20,000 miles, the Manwols are about 18,000 miles away right now."
"And when do we expect them to reach us?"
"Well that depends on when they sense our presence, we've already built high walls on the boundaries so I doubt the Manwols will be able to get through them right away."
"According to Yena's calculations, the Manwols should start sensing us in about another month or so."
"A month hmmm, that doesn't give us much time to work."
"I know it doesn't, but we'll have to make it work somehow."
"Winter is coming and so are the Manwols..."
