7 chapter 6

As Evee, Clyde, and Alvira approached the gate, the guards were in a frenzy. While Evee carried Alastair towards the gate on her back, she thought to herself in silence. After what Alvira had told her what happened at their home, she expected the guards to be on high alert. She was in her husbands office managing the finances, when she suddenly lost consciousness. When she awoke in her cell at the manor, she hoped she was the only one that could be counted as a casualty of the situation. After they had escaped the manor grounds, and Alastair had reduced the place to nothing more than a smoldering ember, she remembered that Viktor had mentioned that Alastair and Alvira had surpassed any B ranked and most A ranked adventurers. Although the significance of that didn't really leave an impression on Evee since she didn't have any way of referencing an adventurers strength by their rank. Even so, she understood that he wasn't casting regular, run of the mill spells. Between him subjugating the hellhounds, then what he did to the manor and everyone still inside, she began to wonder about his circumstances for the first time since he arrived two years ago. She often thought about what might have led to his memory loss and whether or not he would ever regain what he had lost. Alastair didn't seem all that bothered about it. In fact he always said that he didn't really care about his past. As the group finally reached the gate, a man clad in beat up plate armor was giving orders to some of the soldiers standing gaurd. When he saw Evee and the kids approaching the gate, his eyes grew wide in astonishment. "EVEE!?" he exclaimed. "What the hell happened to you guys!? Where is Vik?" The man had more questions popping into his mind when he noticed the unconscious Alastair draped over her shoulders. " Is he alright? Do I need to send for a healer?" Evee responded with "Hi Krystos. We were kidnapped. As for Vik, he went out for materials in the forest. If you haven't seen him, then he probably has no idea what happened yet. As for Alastair, if you wouldn't mind, a healer would be appreciated. Also how long have we been gone?" Krystos looked at her with a shocked expression, and wondered how she could be so nonchalant about all this. Then he almost immediately snapped out of it. He sent a runner to the adventurers guild to get a healer, then directed Evee and the kids into the gaurd office. After he got the trio some food and water, Evee and Alvira reluctantly told their stories to Krystos. When he heard about what Alastair had done, he was stunned into silence. After a short pause in the discussion he looked at clyde, who hadn't said a word, then back to Evee. He began with "we need to keep Alastair out of this. As far as im concerned, he's been asleep through everything. If word got out, who knows who would come after him. As for who saved you all, if anyone asks it was a masked spell caster." After he finished talking there was a knock on the door. Krystos said "Enter". On the command, the door opened and a scrawny man stepped throught the door. "Commander, I've brought the healer you requested". An older woman appeared from behind him and introduced herself as Myriam. Krystos thanked the scawny man and dismissed him. The man snapped to attention, saluted, then left the room. Myriam noticed Alastair unconscious on a bench with his head on Alvira's lap. "Is this why I have been summoned so abruptly?" she asked in a condescending tone. Krystos replied " yes. This is Alastair, would you be able to evaluate his condition and give us a treatment plan?" Myriam took a quick glance at the boy and said "hmmm, it would seem he's simply exhausted. Some rest and he will be fine. Even your sorry ass excuse for a soldier should be able to discern mere exhaustion from a life threatening condition. Well if there's nothing else, I'll be off. Since this was a simple conclusion, I won't charge for my services." With that she turned around and left. Evee looked at the closed door for a few seconds before lookin back at Krystos and asked "does she not like you for some reason?" Krystos simply shrugged his shoulders and said "who knows.... Some adventurers look down on soldiers I guess". After all the formalities concluded, Evee and her group went home and Clyde continued on down the street towards the palace. When Evee and Alvira looked around their house the bodies had all been removed, the bloodstains were scrubbed away but could still be seen in the common areas. Evee went up the stairs and set Alastair in his bed after changing his clothes. As it was late in the evening she told Alvira to go wash up and go to bed. Krystos told them they had been missing for almost two weeks. Evee thought to herself, its amazing that Vik isn't back yet. She was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to go to bed. She awoke the next day to the front doors slamming shut, causing her to jump a little. Her first thought was "not again". Then she heard a familiar voice calling her name. "Evee"!!?!
