2 Chapter 2 - The Awakening (2)

There was a flash of light and my eyes focussed on the dead goblin at my feet. Crimson blood was pooling around its body. There was a holographic window above him which identified it as a goblin and his level seemed to be 1, any other information was not visible. Due the mind calming passive skill, the dead goblin or the blood didn't faze me and I looked up and measured the remaining two goblins. One of them was level 1 and the one holding the rock was level 2. My body broke into a solid stance with my feet apart and my spear aimed at the goblin with the knife who was closer to me.

The spear felt a lot more comfortable in my hands and various offensive and defensive stances appeared in my mind. I decided to move first because I was afraid the goblin with the stone might throw it at me the moment the other one attacked. I lunged at the goblin wielding the knife and stabbed the spear towards his knee. The goblin was caught off-guard and the tip pierced and shattered his knee cap. It let out a wail and dropped the knife. I swung the spear upwards and stabbed through his Adams apple. The goblin's wail was cut short as the tip of the spear popped out from behind his neck. I relaxed a bit. Their fighting skills seemed like trash.

I sensed movement from the corner of my eye and knew the last goblin was making his move. But I wasn't worried too much. Heck, I was even beginning to enjoy my self a bit. It was like living in an actual Virtual Reality Game that I used to only dream about before.

I tried to withdraw the spear but felt resistance from it. The tip of the spear was stuck in the spine of the dead goblin and my strength was a bit low so I couldn't pull it out in one go. I turned around and saw the goblin rush towards me with the stone in his hand. He was probably too dumb to aim and throw it at me. As I saw him getting closer, I desperately tugged at the spear and felt it loosening up. The moment the spear came free, the goblin was on me.

Before I had enough time to pull the spear up in my defence, I felt a flash of pain on my forehead. My ears rang and I nearly let go of the spear. I stumbled away from the goblin and put some space between us. My head was spinning and I felt nauseous. I could feel a warm liquid trickling down my forehead and obstructing my view and knew that I was bleeding.

As I tried to focus on the goblin I felt another burst of pain on my leg. The goblin had finally thrown the rock and hit my knee. I overcame the pain and tried to break into a defensive stance but my injured leg faltered and I went down on one knee. The goblin moved to tackle me to the ground. As his head speared into my chest I lost my wind and went down with him, losing my grip on the spear. Wheezing for air I grabbed around in panic. The goblin had his hands around my throat and he started to squeeze. I struggled for a while but the thin looking goblin surprisingly had at least the same strength as me. Soon my vision started to get cloudy, and my hits started becoming feeble.

My weakened arms flailed around and my hand managed to touch something cold. It was the knife that the second goblin dropped. Nearly about to pass out, I grabbed hilt and jabbed the knife into the eye of the goblin. It let out a shrill squeal and started squirming on top of me. I pushed him away and tried to crawl away. As my vision cleared up a bit I noticed four pairs of green legs walking out cautiously from behind the trees.

There were more, and it looked like I was doomed.

As the squealing from behind me stopped there was a flash of white light and I was back in the darkness.

I gasped for breath and felt fear go down my spine. My injuries were somehow healed in this place but I was pretty sure my actual body was still injured because there was a faint throbbing in my leg and head.

I had almost died. The other two goblins had died so easy that I had started thinking about this as a game. All it took was one small mistake and I was nearly killed by the last goblin. It was too close for comfort. Even now I wasn't out of the woods. In fact I may be in an even more dangerous situation. I was bleeding, disoriented and most likely had a concussion. My knee was busted and even standing would be an uphill battle. I was short on breath and weakened due to shortage of oxygen and I was also unarmed. The moment I'd go back, all four of them might rush me and all I'd be able to do would be crawl around.

The level up had provided me with a lifeline. I had to form a plan and invest the skill points smartly if I wanted to live. Taking a deep breath I started going through the skill list. I noticed that a few of the skills which were grey before had become available now. There was probably a level requirement for all the skills. After much thought I decided to spend 1 SP to buy <Level 1 Healing Spell : Uses 5 Mana to close and heal small wounds and injuries. Can be cast on self and others> and with other 1 SP I bought two points of endurance.

I prepped myself for a while as I tried to remember how far all four of them were from me and where my spear was lying. I calculated I had only a few seconds before the first one would be able to reach me. It was going to be tight but it might just work. I clicked on the cross and closed the window.
