11 Chapter 11

Chapter 11

I narrowed my eyes and asked, "Aren't you from Baltimore?"

"I didn't lie, I am from there but my girl friends parents live in Huddersfield so I would come here for festivals. I heard about you yesterday, her father told me over the Thanksgiving dinner. I stayed the night and woke up here"

I paused for a second before casting heal on me to fix the injuries from the fight. ' It could be very likely that people from my town could have been transported over here, did that mean everyone was? And if so doesn't that mean May as well could have been?' I shook my head to get rid of my concerns for now, I had to solve the female bears problem for now.

"Let's move to the next phase" I said while I bent down to lop off the large bears head. We then moved towards the bushes to look for the dead girl. We came upon it and it was a young teenage girl and sure enough she wore school clothes. I recognised the clothes but the face was too badly clawed identify.

"She studied at the same school I used to study at, without a doubt the people that were transported to this world around us are from my town."

"Ah man I knew I should have given a pass for this dinner. Her parents are weird as well. Could have stayed back in Baltimore and spent some time with the boys and maybe avoided all this fantasy crap", Oscar complained.

"You don't know if everyone there wasn't transported as well but what's certain is that at least people from our town were"

I looked down at the Rolex and wondered who it belonged to, maybe I knew them.

I didn't want to leave the girl's corpse lying like that but we didn't have the luxury of time to dig her a grave. "Let's leave before something gets attracted here", I said to Oscar.

"But I can use my skill to quickly-"

"No, we need to kill the other bear as well. Save your Mana."

We quickly travelled to our right to get to a completely different angle from the cave as I wanted to move the next battlefield as far away as possible from the bodies of the male bear and the girl.

We reached a place where the floor was completely covered with leaves. "This is perfect, remove the leaves from this place and start digging"

"You know we're strong enough to fight and kill that bear without injuries so why're we taking the long route?"

"We need to learn how to adapt in this environment, and there are beasts a lot stronger than that bear in this jungle. We need to start learning non conventional ways to kill them, so the sooner we start the better we get and your skill will have many uses in the future so you need to get more familiar with it"

Oscar simply shrugged and started using his newly learnt skill, ' Earth Manipulation Level 1 - Gives the caster the ability to move dirt and sand, the volume capable to be moved is directly proportional to the level of the skill and the Intelligence of the caster. Consumes 5 Mana per minute.' He had put the other skill point in his Intelligence stat.

Soon a small pit was being formed, Oscar moved the excess dirt away into the shrubs around the clearance to not leave any signs. I then moved to the trees around the place and started breaking off long straight branches. I then started sharpening the ends using the knife and strengthened them using spells. Soon I had a pile of sharp stakes magically fortified and Oscar had meanwhile dug a deep pit.

Oscar then proceeded to stick the stakes in the pit at different angles to ensure that anything that fell into it would be poked full of holes. I meanwhile used more sticks to make a light frame that would cover the pit from the top. The frame had to be sturdy enough to be able to take my weight but would be crushed once the bear stepped on it. Once the stakes were solidly fixed we covered the pit with the frame and then covered the frame with leaves and branches.

Once everything was finished we both looked around to make sure everything was perfect before I moved towards the cave. Oscar climbed a tree near the pit and waited for me. We had dug the pit not far from the cave as the female will probably not venture out very far while leaving its cubs unattended.

Soon I was at the clearing right outside the cave, I saw that the bear was pacing stressfully outside the cave as it could see the sun slowly going down in the horizon. I stepped out from the shadows of the trees and flung the male bears head towards the female. Having sensed my presence the bear turned towards me before it ran towards the head sniffing at it.

The female soon realised what had happened and let out a roar filled with grief and anger. Turning towards me it let out an angry bellow before charging madly. I simply turned around and fled towards the trap. Everything was going according to plan, the bear was blinded by anger and followed me furiously. It didn't take long for us to reach the clearance.

I ran onto the frame covering the pit with light steps and managed to cross it with out any mishaps. The bear behind me however felt something amiss and started slowing down as it approached the pit. Thankfully we had expected that to happen and Oscar cast a Stun spell on the moving bear.

The female was unable to come to standstill as it froze mid run and tumbled forwards. Unable to do anything it rolled above the pit and the frame gave way. The bear fell through and we could hear it cry out in pain as it was impaled by the numerous stakes in the pit. I quickly moved forwards and started stabbing it with my spear. In a matter of seconds it perished and I leveled up. But before it died it still gave one last swipe and shattered my spear.

Back in the leveling space I took a moment to reflect on my misfortune. My only effective weapon was just destroyed. Without it my chances of survival had greatly reduced. I needed a spear to survive so I got to work combing through the system to find a solution.

It didn't take long for me come upon something that could be of use. 'Crafting Level 1 - Gives the holder an instinctive skill in crafting good objects. The objects crafted are sturdier and can even have special effects, the effect of the skill is relevant to the level, dexterity and intelligence'. I felt it was a must have skill to survive in this place, much like the Earth Manipulation skill.

Another skill that caught my eye was 'Foraging Level 1 - Allows the holder to know which plants and fruits are edible and their special uses, they can also identify natural treasures and their benifits. Skill is boosted by Intelligence and Endurance'. I knew this was an important skill because if we were to spend and extended period of time in this place we would need other sources of food and be able to tell what is poisonous for us.

I decided to buy both the skills as they only cost 1 SP each and were imperative for me to increase our survivability. And my stats soon looked like:
