Chapter 1

"Owwww" I groaned loudly as mutt bit into my right arm, I dropped the books I was about reading on my bed and picked him by his tail up to my eye level.

"Don't be a bad boy ok?", I purred despite the pain I felt from the bite, the area around it was already turning a painful red, it would likely turn into a blister soon.

I loved mutt alot despite the warnings of mother and father not to be too close to him, because such tight bonds might accidentally create a connection, an unbreakable connection between us.

It was believed that having such connections with a creature might have drastic effects on the human, as whatever one feels would affect the other, and if unfortunately one dies then a part of the other dies as well.

They've tried taking mutt far from me as often as possible but he still finds his way back every single time. Father once ordered a palace guard to lock him up with tiny chains in a tiny cage and he was to be kept at an isolated part of the castle, I cried a lot when I came to hear of it because I couldn't imagine my mutt all alone and in the cold, I even begged Father to let him go and promised I wouldn't be so close anymore but he bluntly refused, I have broken other promises about staying away and he didn't think I'd stay away now.

He ordered me back to my room escorted by a guard, I sniffed silently as we climbed the spiralling staircase back up to my room door.

"Don't worry, I can go up by myself now", I said backing the guard already halfway up the stairs to my room.

"Are you sure you can manage princess?", He asked, his words laced in concern.

"Yes you can go" I replied as I resumed my climb up.

I got to my door and saw through my eagle eyes the guard still on the stair I left him. I opened my door and got swallowed in the dark, I tried making my eyes get used to the it and could just make out the matches I kept on my table.

I groped my way closer, my arms outstretched to make out whatever obstacle might be in my way and finally got a hold of the lighter. I managed towards the fireplace built directly opposite my bed, and struck a match on the stonewall, it sparked and went out. I tried another and it caught flames, covering it with my left palm against the breeze coming through my window, I lowered myself and threw it into the already arranged logs there. I watched as it spread steadily through the wood and illuminate the room.

Now I could just make out my closet by the wall close to my bathroom door, it stood at the end of my room slightly farther than the soft cushions from my bed. A round large rug was spread by my bed with two cushions places on it and a stool at their middle, by the other side of my bed was a knee height shelf where I arranged my book collections, consisting mostly of novels about mystical creatures.

I glanced towards my mirror and caught sight of how awful I looked, I tried dabbing my eyes with my hands to reduce their puffiness and climbed into bed thinking about how lonely I'm going to be for days or even weeks.

I would just have to bear till mutt comes out, I thought to myself, trying to calm my nerves down.

I adjusted myself on my bed, covering myself up and turned on my side facing the window, I closed my eyes and was about dozing when I heard a thud on my room window, I decided to ignore it with my eyes still closed and tried going back to sleep. A thud again and it was louder this time, I jumped out of bed and walked towards my window, opening it, I peeked outside trying to understand where the sound was coming from when I felt something hit my face and get tangled in my hair.

"Arghhhhhhhhh" I screamed as I fought, relentlessly trying to get it out of my hair. I finally got it out and threw it over the floor to the other side of the room.

I heard a soft hiss accompanied with a soft painful Yelp, I walked towards the strange flying thing and recognized it immediately.

"Oh mutt", I cried out, feeling hot with joy, I knelt by him gathering him up in my arms, he could fit the size of my palm, he was so small.

"I'm sorry, you scared me" I soothed as I rubbed his head to the tip of his tail repeatedly till he completely calmed down.

"Are you okay princess?" I heard outside my door.

"Yeah yeah I'm fine", I replied back.

Mutt looked up at me with his two large eyes, completely black and shiny as marbles, they always gave me bumps when I stared into them. Then he purred contentedly and curled up into a ball on my palm.

I placed him on the little blanket I made for him on my book shelf and he soon started snoring.

"Goodnight mutt" I muttered silently while drifting off to sleep.

Just saw the chance to be in this contest and decided to join along..at least for the fun of it

Haven't really started anything yet, but you could look up a book I'm still working on: "The oak bride"

I'd really appreciate it too if I could get corrections on this story, I'm just an amateur and liable to making mistakes, looking forward to the comments>.<
