16 Regrete and Soul pledge...

It's been 7 years since I've reincarnated in this world. All I can feel is thankfulness for the opportunity the goddess gave me. If I had to say what my life was like, I would describe it as ALMOST perfect.

Note I put emphasis on the almost part. You see the only thing I can say I'm struggling with is...

Edelweiss" I have three rules if you're going to keep on following me. One don't think of even being in a 5-metre radius of me. Two don't talk to me and three stay out of my way."

Eikichi" Sigh, do you have to be so hard on me. I said I'm sorry, so what if I saw you n.a..."

Edelweiss" Did I say 5 metres, sorry what I meant was 500 metres away." She said while waking away.

Sigh it's been a year since I've started travelling around the world with her... And she still not accepted me as a potential lover.

To be honest it was actually going well the first three months. We talked and even got to know each other better. Tho she saw me no more than a friend, at least it was a start.

But it all went downhill one morning when we had been camping outside and I had accidentally saw her fullynatrul form by the lake we were near.

After that, it was quite awkward. For her that is, because even tho she was beautiful without clothes, that isn't what attracted me to her.

Sadly she thought the opposite and thought I was only interested in her body. Now she's been acting cold towards me for the past 9 months barely giving me the time of day.

I didn't mind past the first two months and let her be, but apology after apology I was getting tired.

I had started having doubts on if I really had fallen for her. Or was it just my own delusions. Maybe I really did only take a fancy to her looks.

And now here we are, 12 months later in a damp and dusty cave system, With barely any visible light except for the flashlight edelweiss held.

It had been two weeks since we had entered the maze that was the cave. We were travelling across some some snowy mountain's when a huge blizzard had hit, we had searched for the nearest shelter, and as luck would have it we spotted this cave and took shelter before the weather got any worse.

On the fifth day we stayed we knew that the blizzard wasn't letting up anytime soon, so edelweiss had decided to venture further inside the cave. Maybe find an exit. And of course, I followed along but after two weeks I had enough.

Eikichi" Mhh you know what, You win. I won't bother you any more. If your so hell-bent on being cold towards me even after all my apologies. Then congratulations you've succeeded. I won't bother you anymore."

I said as I started walking back to the entrance. Which took me around a day. As even tho, I had no flashlight. I could still see in the dak perfectly. Plus I could smell my faint scent and follow it back.

But as I was running back to the entrance.

Eikichi" kuruma was I really just fooling my self."

Kuruma" kit, I'll be honest, I don't understand your humans ideologies when it comes to love. Our animal female counterparts just usually go to the strongest in the pack. No wishy-washy feelings or rings to indicate we belong to each other. So I honestly can't tell you if you were right or wrong. But what I can do is read emotions. And what you felt was definitely an attraction. And kit don't let appearance decive you.

Even tho she may have acted cold and distant, I could feel a growing amount of guilt and regret building up inside of her. Maybe it's just hard for her to express her emotions so outwardly."

Eikichi " Haa, thanks kuruma. I guess when I see her again I'll confront her."

And just like that another week has passed with the storm finally passing.

Tho the storm had passed, and he should be happy that he could finally leave, he couldn't as for half a day he's been feeling some sort of pain in his chest one that just wouldn't go away. Just as he was getting worried about the pain, a shout from kuruma had woken him out of his thinking.

kuruma" KIT YOUR MATES IN TROUBLE, I DONT KNOW WHY BUT HER LIFE FORCE IS QUICKLY DISAPAITING. IF YOU DONT GET TO HER IN THE NEXT 10 MINUTES SHEILL BE MEETING THE ANGELS SOO ENOUGH.

Eikichi" WHAT." The moment he had heard that she was in trouble he ran straight into the cave system with no semblance of REASON.

He didn't care he was using most of his strength which caused shockwaves, weakening the structural integrity of the cave. All that was on his mind was to find her as soon as possible.

Kuruma" Kit, there's some type of odourless poison up ahead it's leaking through the rocks. This is what's probably killing her."

Eikichi" Any ideas on how to extract the poison, because I don't have any magical arts related to healing or poisons."

Kuruma" Mhh, there is one way but I don't know if what I'm suggesting is a good idea."

Eikichi" It doesn't matter, anything to save her." He said without hesitation.

After a good second kuruma finally told him his idea. But it wasn't something he had expected.

SOUL LINKING.

An ancient art where two beings share a link to one's soul. There felling, thought, every dream, every emotion, and memory will be shared with one another. That also includes abilities they choose to share. Which would include Eikichi poison immunity, Which he got from kuruma when the goddess had fussed their souls together.

Why he never saw kuruma's memories or feel his other emotions, He had no definite answer to, but he could hazard a guess.

After another minute he could see edelweiss on the floor twitching rapidly, tears running down her face in a constant stream. seeing her like this broght that painfull feeling in his chest to a whole new level.

When he had knelt down and held her up, all he saw in her eyes was sadness, fear and regret.

That cold girl was gone. What replaced her was now a fear-stricken girl who wants to live, and not fall into eternal sleep.

Tho In pain, tho in fear, tho scared she was still a warrior at heart. When she had seen who it was that was holding her she was surprised, happy she wouldn't die alone sad that she could never apologize for her actions, and regretfully that she could never tell him that she didn't hate the idea of being with him.

They were all new feelings for her After all. So she didn't know how to express herself properly.

Seeing the concern and gentleness he held while looking at her now dying self, she somehow found the strength to lift her hand shakiilly, she was finally able to stroke his cheek and give him something he would never forget. A smile so warm it brought happiness to his entire being, knowing that smile was towards him.

Edelweiss' I'm sorry, maybe in my next life we can be together, I promise I won't be cold, or distant, I'm sorry master, mother, father...edel won't be coming home for pastry anymore..I'm sorry.. im..sor...'

She had already passed out and was on her final breath. Sadly death would not be taking her today.

Eikichi" I Eikichi abe, make this soul pledge.

You are my reason now and my reason every day. You strengthen my weaknesses, bring focus to my dreams. Here and now I pledge my soul to yours, that your dreams become my dreams. No matter where life leads me, I know that as long as you are there, that is where I am meant to be.

If you grow weak, I'll be there to fight your battle for you. I'll help you with your responsibilities and make your problems my own in order to spread the weight a bit more evenly. If you have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, I'll be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with you.

I promise to walk by your side forever, and to love, help, and encourage you, in all that you do. I will to listen to you, and to care of you. Through all the changes of our lives, I will be there for you always, as strength in need, a comfort in sorrow, a counsellor in difficulty, and a companion in joy. Everything I am and everything I have is yours, now and forevermore. This is my pledge to you. May it be fulfilled until the end of time." Finishing magical chant I asked.

Eikichi" What the next step now."

Kuruma" Now you seal everything with a kiss. And I'll take care of the rest." Taking a deep breath he looks at her before planting his lips onto hers.

The moment he did he lost consciences. But straight afterwards a crystal cocoon like structure wrapped around Eikichi and edelweiss.

What Eikichi didn't know and what kuruma failed to tell him was that if the souls weren't compatible, then it was likely the moment he had kissed edelweiss, would be the end of Eikichis life. And his own as Kami would erase him for not doing his job.

Kuruma' Few, thank God it worked.'

Kami" Yes it truly is your good luck kuruma."

Startled by the voice he had almost forgotten that Kami was not only omnipotent but also omnipresent. Tho also omniscient, there were always exceptions. Eikichi being one of them.
