3 Chapter 3: The crow

"So your friend was really really nearby, Ophichus."

"Looks so, master."

"I'm Odin.", the crow said.

"I'm Peter. Named after the All-Father?"

"Lets leave at that.", the bird said. "You want to be my master or not?"

"Ophichus must have explained to you but I need to trust my familiars a bit more.", the boy smiled toward the snake and he extended his arm for the little animal entangle itself on it. "So I'm giving a shot."

"Master...", the snake was happy with the words.

"I understand. So give me one of your eyes."

"In the legends Odin did that in Mimir's well but here I don't see...", he looked his friend on his arm. "I am sorry but can you take it yourself?"

"Of course.", wasn't visible but the crow sounded happily.

The bird started to fly and rushed toward the boy. With a good aimed peck the crow was able to pierce the boy's left eye. Peter started to scream of pain and the blood started to flow on his clothes. The only sound that make this more awful was the crow growling as its was laughing.

"Master... pain... not...", a light came from the pocket were the egg was.

As the light blinded all the creatures on the room. Peter stop feeling pain and some warmth was coming from his left eyes. As they regained sight the boy's left eye was there again.

"What happened?", Odin stopped growling.

"You are now my familiar."

"But your..."

"You took it and that whats matter for our accord. It wasn't mentioned anything about it coming back."

"I know, master. I apologize for this misconduct."

"Now give me.", Peter said and the crow stopped on the bed trembling.

"What?"

"Second misconduct, Odin."

"Master, I don't recommend it."

"Give me and don't delay it with more excuses."

"Yes, master."

The All-Father Odin received all the wisdom from another worlds in exchange of his eye. So the crow Odin could possess the same knowledge and knowledge is power. But even the god spent nine days and nine nights to gather the information. Peter could die in the process but something happened.

"What?", Odin said. "Are you safe, master?"

"Of course, he is. He is my master after all.", the snake said.

"WIsdom and knowledge are different things and for this mistake Odin took time to absorb it all.", Peter said.

"How?", the crow was doubting.

"I only need the knowledge when it can be applied only. That's Wisdom.", the boy explained as he remebered one of his history teachers mocking Odin to entertain the class.

"What now?", Ophichus was lost in thoughts after this.

"No more familiars for now. I know about your situation but we will think carefully about the others.", he took the egg and looked. "Display information."

<Luke: Phoenix Egg.>

"So this was the answer for my eye, little fella. Thank you, Luke."

"Master...", the egg trembled again in happiness.

"Odin pass me basic norse incantations."

"Master, you simply must access them with the knowledge I passed to you."

"I know but this will probably trigger all of them and this will be a trouble."

"Mostly of norse incantations are simplified by a rune and is simple as what the rune means."

"Perfect.", Peter accessed all the runes on his knowledge.

"What you intend to do, master?", Ophichus was worried about Peter condition.

"I will make a Reborn on Luke."

The next day was basic incantation class. Within the groups all the members have classes with the same professor. It's made that way to encourage interaction and solidarity. But so long so far none of the students do and the only ones that pass are the groups with one digit number. Which are made with the best rookies of the year.

"Peter.", Ellen called at distance and behind her a gold dragon.

"Ellen. How you are?."

"Good, and you?"

"Also, and you Felix?", he returned to the familiar.

The dragon growled gently toward the boy.

"Good to know.", Peter said and entered the main building.

"How did he know?", Ellen was about to translate Felix words.

"Master, don't use too much my powers of precognition.", Odin spoke.

"Ok.", Peter said sadly because he was amused.

Odin could merge with him giving him some at will magic without incantation. He was able to perceive magic, understand familiars and the best know the compatibility between the wizard and its familiar.

"Ellen was on 87% compatibility. The higher till now."

"The second higher, master. Look at me.", Ophichus said and Peter did.

"100%, how?"

"Let me explain.", Odin took the lead. "Compatibility is a two-way street. If only one can bring the other potential it will only be higher till 50%. If both can collaborate to a health growth then the possibility increases to 100%."

"So I can bring your true power and you can bring mine at full extension?"

"Yes.", the snake said proudly.

"Don't be deceived, master.", Odin said. "Even if it's a 100% both parties must have true and durable relationship."

"As I'm now only he is getting stronger. While he didn't show nothing to me yet."

"Master, it's because of my lack of power. I swear on Odin's name.", Ophichus was a little shocked.

"We'll see. Ophichus. We'll see."

"Wait for me, Peter.", Ellen said behind of him.

"Oh, sorry.", as he looked, their compatibility increased to 90%.

"How did you know what Felix said?", she asked when catched up.

"Familiars are not the opposite side of their master, neither their completion but their continuation. So the more close you are with your master more happy you would be.", he paused to see her reation and returned. "As well you are better than yesterday."

"This is all thanks to you.", and with this Peter realized the last component.

"A common goal increases compatibility.", he said aloud.

"What?", Ellen asked in response.

"It is as I said. Common goal increases your compatibility with your familiar. So it's good to have one.", he explained as he grasp the concept.

"Compatibility?", she was confused.

"Yeah. Think it as how good a wizard and its familiar work well together. It depends mostly of their relationship but having a goal together enhance this relation faster or even further than the normal."

"I still don't know what you are talking about.", she mean it.

"I will use you as example. You and Felix didn't have great compatibility after some issues but both wanted to be united again. So this was the common goal and when one of you took it the lead the compatibility increased as well the relationship improved."

"So all you talking is about how good familiar and wizards can be as friends?"

"Yes but even further than this."

"Ok.", she gave up on understanding him. "Here is the class of basic incantation.", she pointed to a door as he was continuing to walk.

"Oh.", he stopped and came back to enter. "Thanks."

"Master, why take this class?", Odin asked in his thoughts.

"Basics is the initial step to greater heights.", he answered in his mind.

"I know, master, but you only need to access the basic runes you took it before.", the crow insisted.

"Really?", the boy was in doubt.

"The bird is right, master.", the snake entered the conversation.

"Master..."

"This class is obrigatory anyway.", the boy finished.

The teacher entered the class and looked at all the students. She was tall with short brown hair. Black eyes and formal clothes. Her eyes were serious and cold.

"I'm Galandris and will be your teacher of Basics Incantations.", she looked at them again and returned. "Today, we will learn to conjure fire and control it.", she writed down the incantation on the board. "Here is the basic incantation of conjure fire and here below to control it. You can start practicing and I'll help passing by."

"What is written there?", Ellen said as she was sitted on Peter's side.

"It's written on ancient language to have less chances of failure.", he explained.

"On the other academy we used normal incantations.", she explained.

"Here.", he translated to a pronunciation type and passed to her. "It's write in english but reading sound in ancient language."

"You understand ancient language?", she asked in disbelieve.

"Yeah, sort of.", he responded but truly was Odin power.

"Master, you only need to use the Fire and after use it with Control.", the crow spoke about the runes that the boy had on his archive.

"Fire.", he thought and the rune was write on his mind while took form on his hand.

"You didn't incantated?", Ellen was surprised.

"There is a faster way to use incantations, do you know it?"

"Thoughts but it's commonly used by advanced and Dragon Slayers wizards.", she replied.

"Exactly.", he turned off the fire and went to the next step.

"Fire. Control.", the flame didn't showed up untill he wanted it to and then he could move it at free will.

"How do you do this?", she was mesmerized.

"Luck?", he said as the egg trembled.
