17 Chapter 17: Higher heights

"So Gabe wants to duel you. What do you think?", Cecilia told Peter while having lunch.

"I don't want to lose classes and extra classes. So how about Friday afternoon?", he answered.

"I tell him then.", she said.

"Hey.", Ellen whispered to him. "Do you know him?"

"No. Why?"

"His familiar is a Royal Guard Beetle and he already achieved the Synchronization.", she told him.

"Isn't he just a second year?"

"He is probably one of the top ten on the second year.", she explained.

"And Kloutz?", he need a parameter.

"Top fifty on best."

"I need to starting thinking on a way to win."

"It's impossible. They say his Synchronization is over seventy percent."

"What?", he shouted and Cecilia looked at him.

"What?", she asked him.

"Nothing. Ellen told me something about Felix."

Synchronization was a state were the Wizard and the Familiar would merge on a powerful hybrid. Enhancing powers accordingly with the pair goal. It was an absurd buff in combat but too exhautive too. Using one element affinity as example. If the Wizard have 10 and the Familiar have 10. Their Synchronization would have 10 times 10 times their percentual. In this case going between 1 and 100.

For what Ellen said and his first impression on Cecilia's boyfriend. Gabe was a physical type. Wizards don't need a body as they have their mind is a terrible lie. With his Familiar being a powerful one and training his body to overpower with Synchronization is nonetheless a wizard doing.

"He's very strong. The stronger I know so far.", Peter said whispering to Ellen.

"You admitted to easily. How do you intend to win this?"

"Trying the same as him I suppose."

"But even with Rhynus you're too far behind."

"Master."

"Speak, Ophichus."

"You shouldn't try Synchronization.", the snake said it.

"Why?", he didn't understand.

"You know why wizards don't have more than five familiars?", the boy didn't know. "It's because overloads the wizard in general. You got lucky having your magical circuits damaged before passing the limit. But this changes while on Synchronization because you'll have them functioning normally during the transformation."

"What are you thinking?", Ellen talked to him.

"I have a lot of troubles, don't I?", he smiled to her.

"Yeah.", she smiled on his behaviour.

Always using a representative would mean experience lost to him as a wizard. So he wouldn't use this time. He too limited his use on simple incantantions and spells for not overuse his magic circuits. With this he needed a powerful familiar to deal with the Royal Guard Beetle and the only one available was Rhynus.

"I need to train his magic till Friday.", he spoke to himself.

"So you'll really use him.", Ellen said while they were going to the afternoon class.

"I don't have choice here. On physical terms everyone is behind."

"Sir?", Theodore puffed his chest.

"You'll get there but you're still young.", he petted his familiar.

"Emma and Maeve aren't the physical type either.", Ulisses thought loud.

"What is the difference between the Royal Guard and Rhynus?", Ellen asked.

"A Guard like Rhynus is on pair with an Adult Dragon. While a Royal Guard is on same as a Elder Dragon."

"How do you think to nullify this gap of power?", she was astonished with the power of a Royal Guard. Felix eventually would achieve the power of a Elder Dragon but the Beetle started from there.

"Gabe uses Synchronization. So he must uses a lot of stamina and raw power."

"An attrition warfare maybe?", she said.

"But I need to survive this overpower of his till his stamina ran out.", Peter explained.

"Felix said that Rhynus is stronger than the first battle.", Ellen said to her boyfriend.

"He stopped thinking that magic is a way to survive and started using more commonly.", he told her. "Felix should starting doing the same. I think you two can win over Kloutz at this moment."

"Dragon against Dragon. That would be a good match.", she said it.

"Remember that with only one fight I became employed. Maybe you can do it a good show to this purpose too."

"That's a good idea but I doubt he would do that against anyone on your circle of friends."

"You're thinking too highly of me and too lowly of his self esteem.", he said it.

"And we boss?", Ulisses asked.

"Show me what you two can do. One against the other.", Peter said and pointed a battlefield.

"Yes, sir.", Theodore went up on it. "Bring it on."

"I will.", the wolf leaped on it.

"Set. Ready. Go.", Peter gave them the beginning of the match. "You know anything more of Gabe?", he asked Ellen.

"No.", she looked at Cecilia already battling with her puppies. "She is better with Dragon Tongue already."

"She is strong but he is too much.", Peter said. "I don't have a way to deal with him."

"Why do you don't use more than one familiar as you did with Kloutz?"

"I can't overpower always with quantity and this will leave them halt on their actual power without improving.", he explained. "Ulisses if he hit you again you lose.", he was watching the match as he talked to Ellen.

"Your circuits are burnt and you didn't start to heal them yet."

"I won't fix them."

"What?"

"I'll make a custom magic circuit on my body."

"This will take months."

"Three months one week and two days to be exact."

"Why did you take this decision?", she knew the benefits but this could cause his expulsion for the time being.

"I don't know yet if this is worth. But I'll start studying the most used magic circuits and the most common ones. Then I...", he stopped and the bear punched Ulisses again. "Teddy wins.", he looked at her. "Then I'll know what to do."

"This maybe take more than the semester.", she said.

"I have you to pass me.", he smiled. "Ulisses train with Felix and don't lose."

"I get it, boss."

"Black hair put you on your demise."

"Lets see.", the wolf was excited with this battle.

"Set.", the boy started.

"Ready.", she followed.

"Go.", they finished together.

Felix was fast as always and a straight punch was incoming but a Wind Wall send him up.

"A little windy up there?", the wolf asked. "Because the Winter is coming sooner this year.", the familiar howled.

Snow started to appear on the wind and a little swirl trapped the dragon. Felix started to feel the cold from the combination and prepared to use a breath against it.

"How about a fire to heat things up?", he said to the wolf.

"I agree.", Ulisses replied.

The wolf bite the swirl and immediately started to ignite through all its extension. Felix flew out of it and dived on his opponent direction. Ulisses knew how to torment his enemies and this dragon would overflow his emotions.

Another punch coming from top this time. Another wall would just simply decrease the damage and the wolf didn't want to hurt himself again. So he spread his feet on the floor but on the same instant the dragon landed and an explosion happened. Dust everywhere.

As the dust became to down. The dragon was on the floor unconscious while the wolf was a little on the side untouched. Ulisses used his Earth affinity to displace him close to the impact making Felix hit the floor with all his might.

"Wait.", the dragon lifted from the hole. "I still can go."

"No.", Ellen said to him. "You are being toyed with. You need to learn tactics and not be driven by emotion anymore."

"That's all true.", the wolf said. "While you may be stronger than I am. You are too immature up here.", he pawed his head.

"Wind, Ice, Fire and Earth put on good use.", Peter said to his Familiar. "Good job."

"I'm waiting to be more useful, boss."

"Me too, sir."

"You just need to do what you can.", Peter replied. "I'll make sure all of you became strong to fight an Ancient Dragon by yourselves."

"You make sound like possible, black hair.", Felix said.

"They already can defeat you. So I'll do my best that you don't win. By the way you losed the bet remeber that."

"Ok, Peter.", the dragon snorted.

"Lets go home.", he said.

"I'm going ahead.", Ellen said it and climbed on Felix back.

"Okay. See you later.", he replied and returned to his wolf. "How was he?", asked about the dragon.

"He can be considered a young dragon already.", Ulisses replied. "If he knew a little how control his emotions and how to use strategy I couldn't handle him.", he waited a little and returned. "How can we be stronger than the stronger species?"

"You already showed how using this.", he pointed his wolf head. "Now you need to learn like everyone instead to use it as a reflex."

"What are you talking about, boss?"

"How can humans defeats dragons?", the wolf was listening. "High Tier Spells. While doing inconsciously you only achieve Middle Tier power and with your talent this will make you much stronger than an Ancient Dragon."

"How?", Ulisses was captivated by the answer.

"Familiars and monsters use their bodies as incantantions so you'll eventually be capable to use High Tier Spells in the same way but first you need to learn them."
