8 The Power Up

Opening my eyes and looking at the screen made me almost forget the fact that there was a mangled scaly body right in front of me.
Almost.
I jumped inside the bushes and turned away from the lizard carcass to fully concentrate on my new power up, I could feel the difference in strength in my body but seeing the sensations of strengths quantified into numbers had a certain specialty in it.
The biggest increase I saw was in my dexterity, it had leaped from 2 to 20, I guessed this was due to the fact that the lizard specialised in dexterity and killing it meant that a greater amount of it was given to me than other stats.
But the thing which caught my eye the most was the increase in HP and Constitution, I no longer had the body of a potato chip that had been left out for a few days, I had vowed to increase my defence and I had finally done it. A sense of accomplishment and renewed motivation flooded my mind, I could do it all! I had taken down a huge creature and my initial fears of being snapped in two by a strong breeze had dissipated.
I jumped out of the bushes with a single leap, I felt like an action hero, emerging from the ashes of his previous self. I looked at the direction where I came from and took off, running full speed at the trodden down path I made on my way here.
It felt amazing. The light breeze on my face was similar to when I ran as a human, my speed wasn't anything to be impressed by, but it was vastly improved on from before. I kept running and running for what seemed like hours.
I stretched out my wings and let out a laugh.
I was stronger! My first victory!
If I had a mouth it'd be curved up in a smile right about now, I was on top of the world.
'Hey system, how do I get EVEN stronger? Or better yet, how do I evolve?'
[ Evolution is a random natural occurrence which happens when a magical beasts abilities greatly exceed what it was during the start of it's current evolution, for an Ignison chick, your status sum would need to be much higher than what it was at birth ]
'Hey hey, am I close?!'

'Bah! Who cares! I'm already so much stronger, it's only a matter of time!'
I stopped in my tracks and caught my foot stuck in a lengthy root, after tumbling for a few seconds and standing up, I re-read the message and stomped my foot.
'Argh dammit, my high status sum is gonna be what prevents me from evolving! Maybe starting high wasn't as good of a situation as I thought...'
Since my status sum had now been increased, I need to hunt stronger and stronger prey to increase my strength, having the system was awesome and all but the drawbacks were putting a wrench in the works on my plans to grow stronger.
I tapped my foot and held me beak down, eyes closed and unaware of the scale bodies moving silently behind me.
'System, how does one use soul power to their advantage?' This was a question I should've asked long before, I knew it was dumb of me to not question how to use my only talent, but better late than never.

While I was eagerly awaiting the system's response, I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings, all of a sudden a sound reminiscent of a growl was head behind me, I quickly focused my vision and saw 4 green lizards leaping at my direction.
I took off without caring about the system's reply, who cares about a soul when it's dead!
Taking a sharp right turn and going down a small hill I quickly realised that these guys were way faster than me, with each step they bounded, it was equivalent to three of mine.
I could see their eyes as they watched me, a cold intelligence emanated from them, I didn't want those eyes to keep looking at me like that, I felt like one of those spinning pieces of meat in the restaurants a passerby would salivate at. As they leaped over rocks, the stones were crushed by the muscle in the legs of the beast, they were strong! Unimaginable strong! How in the hell did the system estimate a 35% chance for me to win against this thing?!
Knowing that running for too long wasn't an option, I looked at the systems previous message, it seemed like the system didn't care that I was about to be lizard food.
[ Soul Power can be used in a multitude of ways, the most common is to enhance your physical strength or magical strength, each spell casted is at a set strength but it is a persons soul power which increases the power in each strike, unlike physical ability which can be externally trained and improved ]
'AHH WHAT THE HELL SYSTEM WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME ABOUT THIS?!?!'
I could only read bits of the information due to being chased, but even a glance at the system's words gave me enough of an idea about how helpful spirit power was.
Now hating the system, but most of all myself for never asking it or trying to learn, I kept running while using my 360 degree vision to keep a close check on my pursuers, they were dangerously close now, a few seconds more and they could leap and snap my neck in a single movement.
'HEY SYSTEM, ACTIVATE SOUL POWER, DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BRING IT TO ME NOW!'
[ System is controlling soul power, where would Owner like it to be concentrated? ]
With no hesitation, I screamed 'THE LEGS!', or tried to anyway, for the first time in a few days I made a sound, "YEECHHII!".
The lizard's must've taken this as a sign of panic as one of them suddenly had the motivation and bravery to leap from the ground, opening their mouth wide enough to fit a baby chicks head.
Unfortunately for the lizard, the only thing it caught in its mouth was dirt, some twigs and an Erom Worm or two. It spat out the disgusting debris and looked up at the yellow bird which should've been between its teeth right now, it was running at breakneck speeds. Dust was rising up every time the chick's webbed feet left the ground, the lizard saw it's prey as nothing more than a yellow blur.
Going through this chick's brain was but one thought.
'AHHHHHHHH!!!'
