34 The one that got away

Note: This chapter takes place in the past.

"What about this one? Kyunnie?" Hana asked as she placed a brochure in front of him.

"Isn't it a bit expensive?" He asked.

"But, it's our wedding, it's supposed to be expensive," she replied annoyed.

Changkyun sighed. "Whatever you want, it's yours."

"You're the best!" She smiled and hugged him tightly as she gave him a kiss. "I love you."

He smiled back. "I love you too."

"Whose is it? Yours or mine?" Hana asked as they heard a phone start to ring.

She checked her bag. "It's mine. Ugh, you know how confusing it is when someone calls? Why did you have to have the same ringtone as me?!" She complained as she answered the call. "Hello?"

"I refuse to change it, I had it first," replied Changkyun like a little kid.

Hana rolled her eyes and went into the other room to continue her call.

"Kiki? What's up?" She quietly said.

"I was just making sure, are we still on for tonight?" He asked.

"Oh, yeah. I should be free tonight. The usual spot?" She asked.

"Yeah, 9?" He asked.

"Uh, is 10:30 okay?" She asked.

"Uh, yeah. I'll see you then," he replied.

"Uh huh," She sighed and hung up.

"Who was it?" Asked Changkyun as Hana joined him in the living room again.

"Oh, just a friend. Needed some advice," She replied.

"Oh," he nodded his head and opened his arms indicating he wanted her to go over to him.

Hana went over to sit on his lap as he brought her into a warm tight hug.

"You know I love you, right? Hana?" He said.

She nodded. "Of course I do. And of course I love you too."

"Are you okay?" He asked sounding a bit worried.

"Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?" She replied as she snuggled into his chest.

"You just seem... a bit distant lately. You know if you don't wanna get married we don't have to. I'm not trying to rush you. I just thought-"

"I do." She said stopping him from finishing his sentence.

They laid on the sofa as they watched some tv and before she knew it Changkyun was fast asleep. She managed to get up from his grip and get dressed to go meet with Kihyun. She stood over Changkyun and watched for a few minutes as he slept, making sure he stayed asleep. She felt her eyes start to get warm as tears started to well up. "I love you. I really do Kyunnie." She whispered as she placed a kiss on his forehead and then left.

As Hana headed to the bar she thought about it. Did she want to get married? Were they moving to fast? She shook her head and got out of her car after she arrived and parked. Kihyun was waiting for her in front of the doors. He smiled when he saw her and went over to me. "You made it. I was beginning to get worried," he said as he brought her into a hug and placed a kiss on her lips.

"Sorry, I knocked out. Besides you know me, punctuality; not really my thing," Hana laughed.

He nodded. "Yeah, I know."

They went in and had a few drinks. They ended up getting pretty drunk and having to stay at a nearby motel.

When Hana woke up the next morning the sun shown brightly through the open curtains and into her eyes making her yawn and loudly sneeze waking Kihyun up from his deep sleep.

"Oh sorry, I didn't mean to wake you," She whispered trying not to laugh.

He tiredly smiled and sat up and stretched. "Well, bless you," he said sarcastically.

Hana picked her phone up from the bedside table and a whole plethora of messages and missed calls from Changkyun erupted on her screen.

"Crap!" She quietly said under her breath.

"What's up? Is everything okay?" Asked Kihyun.

She looked up from her phone and nodded. "Yeah. Just had a deadline I missed. You know how it is for us law school students." She slightly smiled.

Kihyun smiled and shook his head. "Typical."

"Well, I gotta go, you know turn in that paper," she said as she started to get dressed.

"I guess I'll see you later," he smiled.

She gave him a quick kiss and headed out of there faster than he could say "good bye".

When Hana got back to her apartment complex she parked and went up. As she entered Changkyun was laying on the couch browsing through his phone.

"Hey, sorry I didn't answer, my phone was off. I was out studying. I've had some trouble with this recent paper," she lied as she went over to give him a kiss on the lips. "I didn't expect to be out all night."

He didn't answer. He didn't even look away from his screen. Honestly the silence made her very uncomfortable. Sure he was quiet at times but he at least would say a simple 'hey' or 'where were you?'

"You okay?" She asked trying to break the silence.

He slightly nodded his head as he continued to look at his screen. "O-Okay, I'm just gonna go shower and change," She continued as she headed over to their shared bedroom.

When she came out of the shower Changkyun was waiting for her, standing on the opposite side of the bed with his arms crossed.

"Oh shit! You startled me. What's up?" She asked.

"Where did you go last night? You know after we fell asleep on the couch. You said you loved me as if you had to reassure me. Yes I was half awake when you left," he replied.

Her heart started to thump so loud she thought he might hear it. She could feel her brow start to sweat. "I-I told you. I was studying. For exams and working on a paper. You know I am in school right," she replied trying to sound as relaxed as possible.

He raised a brow. "Really? You had to study? At 10:30 in the middle of the night? Is the library even open that late? Cause last time I checked it closes at like, 4:30-5."

"Well I obviously wasn't at the library the whole time. I left and stayed at a motel," she replied not realizing how ridiculous she sounded.

"You left and stayed at a motel? Why a motel? Why didn't you just come home?" He asked confused.

"Crap," she quietly said under her breath.

"Honestly, you don't have to lie to me. I'm not your mother," he started.

She gave him a confused look. "Huh?"

"Babe, you don't have to pretend that you don't understand. If you went out clubbing with friends instead of doing your homework, then you went out clubbing with friends. Despite your deadline literally being in like a day or so. God you didn't have to act so suspicious about it," he replied shaking his head. "Honestly, just tell me next time. Oh and before I forget, a really good friend of mine is coming by. I think you should meet him. I'm thinking about asking him to be my best man."

Just as he finished his sentence as if right on cue the doorbell rang. Changkyun went out to the living room to buzz him in. About a minute or so went by when someone started knocking on the door. He went over and opened the door. He greeted his friend as he invited him to have a seat in the living room.

"Hey, babe, could you please come here for a sec," he said aloud.

Hana excitedly went out to the living room to join them, she was finally going to meet one of Changkyun's close friends. Her heart stopped when she saw who it was. The familiar man that sat in their living room. She let out a loud gasp as the man's smile suddenly started to disappear.

"Hyung, this is my fiancé, Hana Kim," said Changkyun.

"H-Hello, it's finally nice to meet you. Changkyun has told me many great things about you," smiled his friend. "I'm Yoo Kihyun."

"Y-Yeah. Likewise," she replied trying to keep her cool.

Everything went silent for a minute but it felt like an eternity.

"Am I missing something? Do you two know each other?" Asked Changkyun.

"No," she quickly replied.

"Actually," Kihyun started. She looked at him wide eyed, indicating that he shouldn't say anything.

He sighed. "I'm sorry. Yeah we're kinda sleeping together. Please believe me when I say I didn't know she was your girlfriend."

She hung her head in shame. Changkyun's silence scared her. She knew he was pissed and she couldn't blame him. Kihyun ended up leaving and they ended up sitting in silence for about an hour before he started to speak to her again.

"How long? How long has this been going on?" He asked.

"Not- Not long. About a month or so. After we got engaged. I-I-I'm so sorry. Could you please forgive me? Or at least forgive Kihyun? He didn't know," she started to cry. More and more tears rolled down her cheeks as he stood in his spot in silence. "Kyunnie? Please answer me!"

"How long do you need?" He asked, his eyes turned cold and blank.

"For what?" She asked. She mentally smacked herself in the face for asking such a dumb question.

"To move out, how long do you need?" He asked again, he stared straight ahead.

"I'll be gone by the end of the week. I'm so so sorry, Changkyun. I really am. I love you, I really do." She said trying not to start crying.

"Yeah, I loved you too. A lot, so much so that I wanted to spend my life with you," he replied before he walked away and disappeared into his studio.

Hana went into the bedroom and grabbed a bag to pack a few things and of course she ended up staying at a motel that night.
