10 Dragon Soul: Realm of Magic

It was obvious which path Chaus chose: a magic warrior. Carnak was also a magic warrior but that wasn't the main reason Chaus chose to become a magic warrior. Chaus wanted power, and a magic warrior was the most powerful out of the three roles.

Dru already knew what choice Chaus would choose. "Since you're the son of Carnak, you should be able to use the language of the world. Instead of saying burn, say 'Vira.'"

Chaus moved his soul energy towards his hand and said Vira. Chaus shouted in pain. Rather than black flames appearing, pain appeared. It was excruciating pain. It was worse than being burned alive in the room of fire.

Dru was in a confused and shocked state. He quickly came back to his senses and shouted, "Somire!"

Chaus crumpled to the ground. He lost consciousness.

Dru was immensely confused and shocked. Even if Chaus was a half-breed, the language of the world shouldn't be cut off from him. Even if it was, he shouldn't be feeling pain.

Dru thought back to his theory of Chaus being born due to the laws of casualty. What if Chaus wasn't born due to the laws of casualty being out of balance. What if Veronica broke the laws of casualty in order to create Chaus. Is that why the language of the world is rejecting Chaus?

Dru's eyes turned into slits. If that was the case, Chaus is in danger. The world would cause unfortunate events in an attempt to get rid of Chaus. Chaus wasn't strong enough to go against the will of the world. If this was the case, there was currently only one way to protect Chaus from the will of the world and his other enemies. Dru made up his mind.

A few hours later

Chaus woke up in a confused state. He saw Dru standing in front of him.

"What happened?"

No emotion was seen on Dru's face. "The language of the world rejected you. Even though you're Carnak's blood, you're also part human."

Chaus nodded, accepting his situation. He couldn't use ancient magic, but that wouldn't stop him from walking down the path of a magic warrior.

"Shall we resume where we left off?"

Dru nodded in response. He was surprised at how quickly Chaus accepted not being able to use ancient magic. Many people who looked at Chaus would think his physical abilities were the most impressive thing about him, but Dru knew Chaus's mentality and willpower were the most impressive aspect.

"Currently you're able to use simple spells like burn, but magic is far more than that. Elementary magic consists of the most basic of spells, like burn. When you're able to cast intermediate magic, you can create objects, illusions, and barriers. When you're able to cast advanced magic, you can create the four natural elements and variations of them. When you're able to cast elder magic, you can teleport and have some control over space."

Chaus's goal was to be able to cast elder magic.

"You're able to cast elementary magic proficiently, so we'll work on intermediate magic. Try to create a barrier."

Chaus let his soul energy flow and shouted "barrier." A circular translucent barrier 2 meters wide with black flames dancing on it formed around Chaus. After 2 seconds it shattered. Chaus frowned.

"You have enough soul energy to cast advanced magic, but your control over your soul energy is lacking. Burn is a simple spell. To cast it, all you had to do was let your soul energy flow towards your hand. Barrier is much more complex. When you learned about flow, you must've realized your soul energy can take on different shapes?"

Chaus nodded in response. "Yes."

"If you want to cast magic like 'barrier', you must let your soul energy flow out of your body and then change its shape into one of a barrier."

Chaus understood what Dru said. If his soul energy wasn't in the shape of a barrier, there wouldn't be enough soul energy to fuel the spell, and the spell wouldn't hold.

Chaus spent the rest of his day practicing his control over his soul energy.

A few hours later

Chaus let his soul energy flow from his body. He changed its shape into a barrier 2 meter wide. "Barrier." A translucent barrier with black flames formed around Chaus. This time it stayed, but after 20 seconds, it shattered again.

Chaus could now change the shape of his soul energy, but he couldn't hold it long enough. He was still lacking in his control over soul energy.

It was dark and Chaus hadn't eaten for the entire day. He turned to Dru. "There's no food?"

"Make it."

Chaus was confused. "What?"

"Make the food using magic."

Chaus spent a few seconds taking in what Dru said before quickly understanding. By using intermediate tier magic, Chaus could create food.

Chaus let his soul energy flow. "Create." His soul energy slowly took on the form of a chicken. The chicken gradually took shape. Then it shattered. Chaus wasn't skilled enough to create food.

Dru smiled. "Looks like you're sleeping hungry." He then proceeded to create a cooked chicken right in front of Chaus's eyes.

Chaus was speechless.

Chaus woke up the next morning hungry. He wanted to eat something, but Dru refused to create food using magic. Dru, however, did create barrels of water for Chaus to drink out of. Pure water is one of the four natural elements, and thus could only be created using advanced magic. Fire is also one of the four natural elements, but because Chaus's 'burn' spell set something else on fire, it couldn't be considered advanced magic.

Chaus practiced the entire day trying to create food. He gave up on something complex like chicken, and instead switched to something plain and simple like bread. Even though he switched to creating bread, it still couldn't take shape. Chaus slept hungry the second day.

On the third day, Chaus's stomach was growling. He was so hungry it was painful. As such, he put forth all his effort in creating a piece of bread.

After hours of work, Chaus finally created a single piece of bread. The instant it was created, Chaus ate it. Chaus then spent the entire day creating pieces of bread.

While Chaus ate his bread, Dru sat next to Chaus feasting. Chicken, steak, mashed potatoes, pie, and anything you could think of. "Your bread looks tasty."

Once again, Chaus was speechless. He didn't know Dru had such a side to him. He made sure he would one day surpass Dru in creation magic.

On the fourth day, Chaus could create an entire bread rather than pieces.

On the fifth day, Chaus attempted to create meat, but failed. Meat was exponentially harder to create than something simple like bread. Meat came from a living creature, which increased its difficulty to be created.

On the sixth day, Chaus tried to create a tiny piece of meat and almost succeeded.

On the seventh day, Chaus successfully created a tiny piece of meat. Back in his village, meat was a rarity that was eaten on special occasions. Now that Chaus could create meat, he was in high spirits.

"Well done."

Chaus looked at Dru wondering if Dru was being sarcastic. He didn't forget the taunting way Dru ate in front of him.

"Take this." Dru threw a large and thick book towards Chaus.

Chaus read the title of the book. 'Dragon Soul: Realm of Magic.' Intrigued, Chaus opened the book and skimmed the first few pages.

Initially, Chaus was angry, but that anger quickly turned to astonishment. He looked up at Dru with an astonished expression. "This is...a guide to magic?"

Dru smiled. "This book holds the teachings of the dragon race. When it came to magic, no other race could match them. It's the last of its kind."

The teachings of the dragon race. This book was a priceless treasure. If news got out this book existed, pools of blood would litter the Earth.

Chaus felt both gratitude and dislike towards Dru. The first feeling was due to the priceless treasure Dru just gave him, and the second was because the priceless treasure went over every step in the process of creation magic. Chaus could've had meat on the second day if he had his hands on the book.

Dru looked amused. "Read through it. In the meantime, I have something I need to do." Dru waved his hand and disappeared.

Chaus was disappointed at Dru's disappearance. The past two weeks he spent with Dru were the most enjoyable weeks he had in a while, but he knew that whatever Dru had to do, it was important. Chaus quickly smothered his disappointment and began reading through the book.

At the base of the stone staircase

The air fluctuated and Dru appeared. He quickly casted a spell and the cottage disappeared. He then proceeded to manifest a knife and cut his palm with it. He let his blood drip down into the Earth. He stayed in this state for hours.

Dru was a magus, born from dragon blood. His regenerative abilities were leagues beyond the lesser races, so it wasn't a problem for him to lose so much blood.

Dru suddenly moved and cast a healing spell. The wound on his palm healed at a rate visible to the eye. Then the air fluctuated and a dragon stone appeared in Dru's palm. He placed the dragon stone on the area where his blood dripped. The air fluctuated again and a large bag appeared. The bag held some sort of powder inside it. Dru took the powder and proceeded to create intricate lines around the dragon stone with it.

On the third platform.

Chaus was amazed at the massive amounts of information the dragons had. Chaus only read a tiny portion of the book, but he already learned so much. He learned that there were other ways to increase the power of his soul, aside from improving his willpower. By circulating his soul energy within his soul, Chaus could continuously refine and improve his soul. Additionally, the faster his soul energy could circulate, the quicker he could cast spells.

Chaus also learned the process of casting intermediate magic. In addition to changing the shape of his soul energy, Chaus also needed to use his will power to bring the magic to existence. Before, Chaus was only changing the shape of his soul energy, which was why it took Chaus such a long time to use creation magic.

There were also things like transmutation circles, which Chaus learned about. Transmutation circles, depending on the size of the transmutation, were small or large circles created by a special powder that changed the state of an object. With a transmutation circle, one could change the form of an object into something else. For example, water could be changed to rock with a transmutation circle. The greater the amount of magic power used to activate the circle, the greater the results.

Chaus decided to put a pause on his reading to practice intermediate magic. Chaus let his soul energy flow from his body and changed it into the shape of a barrier. He then imagined a barrier appearing in his mind. He was using his willpower. "Barrier!" A translucent two meter wide barrier covered in black flames appeared. This time Chaus could feel it. The barrier wasn't going to shatter unless Chaus wanted it to.

After successfully casting barrier magic, Chaus turned to creation magic. He imagined a chicken in his mind, changed his soul energy into the form of a chicken, and cast creation magic. An entire chicken appeared (cooked of course). Chaus quickly devoured the chicken.

A satisfied Chaus sat on the platform. The sky was dark and it had been a long day. He decided it would be best to get some rest.

Chaus had already made plans for tomorrow. He would split his day into parts. In the morning, Chaus would cultivate his soul, and in the afternoon to the end of the day, Chaus would practice casting magic. Chaus didn't know when Dru would come back, so he didn't take Dru in account. Chaus had a strong soul, so he didn't need to spend too much time cultivating it. His magic abilities, though, were weak so it made sense for him to focus on that more.
