56 ELIZABETH'S PAST II

Elizabeth moved to a different hospital to continue her internship. It was to avoid Enzo as well since there were some men following her to report back to his father. She can't put him in danger.

She didn't talk to Venus about it as well. She faced her problems on her own.

"How's your transfer procedure?" Anton asked her when she came back with some of her belongings put inside a cardboard box. He took it from her and gave her a glass of water.

"It was fine. I will start working the day after tomorrow. How's work?" she conversed with him while removing her coat before placing it on the coat rack.

"It's fine. I finished most of the things I scheduled for today. What would you like for dinner?"

"Anything you cook. I am not picky."

"Okay. You take a shower first while I cook. Dinner will be ready in half an hour."

She went to her room and take a shower while Anton went to the kitchen and cook their dinner.

Time pass by quickly and in the blink of an eye, a month had passed after their wedding.

Elizabeth and Anton became friends while avoiding her family at the same time. They were still considered young for a marriage couple. Of course they are! Anton was just a 23-year-old man and Elizabeth just turned 18 years old two months before their marriage.

"How can he marry me off at such a young age?" she thought while digging a spot on the ground for her sunflowers.

"What are you thinking about?" Anton flicked her forehead since she had been distracted for a while now. "You've been digging for few minutes already. I don't think your sunflowers would still come out of it."

"Oh. It's indeed deep." Elizabeth scratched her nose with a little awkwardness. Some dirts were on her face which made her look cute and silly somehow.

Anton scooted over to her and wiped the dirt off her face using his handkerchief. Her heart beat fast and her face was flushed from embarrassment.

She didn't care about it though. Since she married him, she would respect him. She may not love him like how much she loved Enzo but, she will treat him as a friend.

"Anton?" she called out while he was wiping her face.

"What is it?"

"Why did you agree to marry me?" It was a simple question yet so difficult to answer. For a moment, she expected something from him.

He didn't speak for a while. He just stared at her before taking the gardening tools and pulled her to stand.

The sun was up high already and he didn't want her to stay too long under the sun. He walked her back to the porch then, he returned the tools inside the shed at the back yard.

When he came back, Elizabeth was sitting on the rattan chair while watching the bright blue sky.

"Did your parents tell you anything?" Anton asked after a seat beside her.

"They didn't. They didn't speak to me about this wedding. I was just told I have to get married. For them, reasons don't matter. I don't matter to them. All that matter is profits and connections. I am actually glad you brought me here, away from them." she smiled at him but a glint of sadness flashed across her eyes.

Anton shifted his gaze from her to the garden that they made. There were different kinds of flowers and some of them were in full bloom.

"I feel like I am the bad guy here." Anton joked while looking at the flowers. "Are you regretting that you marry me?"

"Not really. I know that I won't end up with Enzo. My father would do everything he can to separate me from him. I don't want anything bad to happen to him. Even if it wasn't you, I would be married off to someone else. I am glad it's you because you always take care of me." This time her smile was genuine which made Anton feel guilty. He robbed her off from her happiness and tied her down in a marriage of convenience.

"I was left with no other choice. I had to accept this marriage whether I like it or not. If I had known you love someone, I would oppose it with everything I have."

"I'm glad you didn't. I would have ended marrying some old geezers or anyone with horrible characters. You actually saved me from them."

"If ever you want to be free, just tell me. I can always set you free."

"Enough already. Let's stop talking about the past. It's depressing." Elizabeth laughed and stood up. "Time to cook breakfast. I am in charge today so just relax and wait for me."

Anton chuckled but didn't say anything. When she left, his gaze landed on the man few meters away from their house. She didn't notice him, but Anton had seen the man many times over the past weeks.

They lived their life harmoniously. Elizabeth would go to work during the day and Anton would work at home while watching over the house. They didn't hire any servants so they have to do the chores themselves. He wouldn't go to his office unless there were emergencies that needed his presence.

Day after day, they live like a real couple. They don't fight or argue. He was very understanding of her.

Half a year had passed from the time they got married. She still haven't seen her family and she didn't have any plan to do so in the future.

"I'll be off now." Elizabeth grabbed her keys and bag. It was still early but she had to leave as soon as possible to prepare her presentation.

"Here's your lunch." Anton took out a bento box from the kitchen. He had been doing it ever since she started working. "Good luck with your presentation. I will wait for you here." He kissed the top of her head which made her blush.

"See you." she ran off to the garage and got inside her car. She has to be early to avoid the overflowing traffic in the city.

"I am glad it was him that my father chose." Elizabeth thought while driving the car.
