"Run!"

Screams echoed through the dark, glaring

forest...

"Kuuuuhh"

The man at the end of the trio knelt and gargled while blood gashed out from the 3 deep wounds inflicted upon his back!

From the dark forest, a seemingly infinite number of yellow eyes glowed as multiple centipedes exited the darkness!

Upon seeing the eerily enchanting eyes and insects, the duo quickly dashed away leaving the injured man alone...

Slowly crawling to him, "tic tac tic tac" sounded as the centipedes surrounded the man. (AN: Don't confuse with the game "tic tac toy")

The nearest centipede crawled in front of the man-who was now paralyzed by fear-and turned its back to him.

Immediately, a burst of small pellet shaped eggs poured onto the mans' face, and immediately after landing, small baby centipedes crawled and entered through the mans' eyes, nose, mouth, and ears as his body was covered in insects eating him inside out! (AN: No homo)

"Ahh!"

"Just stop, Jake. Lets end the night here. Jasmine, put out the fire. Jake, clean up the trash. Go to bed and don't forget to store the Halloween candy. And remember, never sneak out!"

"Pssh, I was just getting to the real scary part, Alex. Even Jasmine is scared! Hahaha!"

"N-no, I'm not!"

"Enough! Don't bother me unless it's important. Now hurry up."

...

Arriving at the dark brown wooden cabin, Alex opened the door with great difficulty-as the door was old and easily jammed-and he threw his medium-sized blue-backpack to the side of the bed before throwing himself onto the King sized bed with dark covers and gray blanket...

"Ooh, so comfy."

Alex snuggled on the bed as he pulled the blanket over himself and enjoyed the warmth and comfort from being in one's own home.

Deciding to take a moment to rest his eyes, Alex turned on his stomach and enjoyed the serene quietness of the log cabin.

The warmth slowly took over Alex as his eyelids closed and he melted into darkness.

*Tik Tok Tik Tok*

The clock's hand moved each second, a rhythmic tempo.

Clocks are very similar to the human heart in that both have a steady beat.

Clocks are an essential part of humanity.

There are even Asian myths about clocks coming to life or being possessed by Yokai.

Alex's heart thumped and thumped steadily, the beat continued even during sleep. (AN: Duh, or else he'd die and we can't have the MC dying)

Time passed and passed, almost like a fleeting crush. (AN: *sigh* this is a metaphor that works well for me-my first high school crush has a boyfriend and I found out a week later, hence a fleeting crush)

A gray smoke slowly blew into the room. Alex's nose twitched. Fume clouds rose into the atmosphere as the air became even more suffocating.

*cough* *cough*

The groggy smoke entered Alex's nostrils and throat making him cough badly...

It was like being lit on fire or thrown into a volcano. (AN: it's a hyperbole, by the way. Only the guy I threw into a volcano would know how it feels)

The insides of Alex burned as if acid was poured in them, but there was no way to stop the internal organs from getting melted-or at least that's how Alex currently felt.

Alex sat straight immediately as he coughed multiple times before dizzily walking to the sink and wetting a towel.

In this day and age, knowledge for preventing chemicals to enter the lungs or how to purify water was common. (AN: buying a gas mask)

Alex covered his mouth with the wet towel and looked out the window.

Even though the darkness of the night and the foggy gray smoke is blocking the area, Alex is able to see a bright red light shining like the sun.

The light was blindingly beautiful, but Alex was left in horror as his mouth gaped!

He didn't want to believe this was happening!

Only one known creature can be as bright as the sun, the legendary Phoenix.

Alex didn't recognize the source of the light, but this was Alex's one hope: for there to not be any creature at all.

'Please, God. I beg you, have mercy'

Alex prayed, even as an atheist, that the light was anything but a monster.

Alex rushed through the door holding the wet towel to his mouth and nose as he dragged his weary body to check up on the kids.

The door wouldn't open though! It was trapped and stuck, but Alex was able to force it open with multiple body thrusts! Albeit at the cost of bruises on his right arm...

Alex quickly walked forward horrified of the scene in front of him.

*BOOM*

An explosion of the log cabin behind him disoriented Alex and incapacitated him as shrapnel shot into his legs and back.

Alex could only watch in horror as a seen that could only be depicted as hell appeared in his vision: 2-17 year olds burning as they ran and rolled on the ground screaming, skin melting and blood spilling!

But, Alex was unable to hear anything after the explosion blew up.

'Move! Move! Why won't you move!!!'

Alex screamed in his mind as he tried and tried to drag his body to them.

Alex couldn't take it as tears flooded his eyes, streaming down his cheeks.

Alex yelled for help only to be unable to let out a single sound.

Only the helpless sound of Alex writhing on the floor could be heard by him.

It was then, Alex saw it, or specifically them!

A group of men carrying a large egg about 3 feet as a creature that can only be described as a Phoenix opened it's mouth.

The Phoenix flew at the 14 men. Even after seeing all this, Alex could only feel one thing: anger.

Anger at himself for being powerless! Anger at the group of men for bringing the Phoenix to their camp! And anger at the Phoenix for hurting his only family left! The sadness he was experiencing slowly turned into rage as he watched the battle between the 14 men and Phoenix.

Alex watched as both sides drew blood from the other, killing each other slowly.

Alex was slowly losing consciousness. It was already a miracle for him to be awake after the explosion happened so close.

Alex didn't want to, but he hoped! He hoped when he woke up, everything would be a dream! He didn't care for anything, but that. The only 2 people left he considered as family, in agony and crippled at best, dead at worst! Nothing mattered to him but them.

Alex just wished and hoped! The first time he prayed to the gods, he was ignored! The moment he needed them the most, he was ignored!

Alex was slowly consumed in rage and sadness as he fell unconscious.
