9 Chapter 8

I woke to utter chaos.

While I was sleeping, many more people had arrived in the cabin. It now felt a lot less roomy due to the new fifteen or so people that had shown up.

Secondly, Ophelia was awake and jumping around, trying to get a bag that one of the new campers had. He was dashing around the room with it and laughing. It took me a moment to realize that was my bag. "Ugh it's too early for this." I said to myself.

A quick check of my bed and I made sure my phone was still on me. Thankfully it was. I was completely right to think that these people are utter psychopaths.

I hopped out of bed, still feeling a bit tired. My phone was concealed in my pant pocket, under my shirt. I didn't really care about my bag right about now. All it had was my basic necessities in it anyways, which were easily replaceable.

Nonetheless, the next lap this guy did around the room, I met him head on. As expected, I was knocked to the ground, but he was too. Ophelia finally grabbed my bag and my new "cabinmates" grinned at me a bit.

These fuckers think this entire thing is a joke? My bag wasn't really an issue, but Ophelia was dedicated to get it and it annoyed me that they'd laugh at her.

As this was happening, two boys with identical curly black hair walked in. They grinned like almost everyone else around us. I sighed a bit again.

One of them walked up to me while the other walked up to Ophelia. I couldn't hear what the other one was saying since it was hard to focus on anything but this guy in my face. "Hi there, I'm Travis."

It felt like he was purposely being obnoxious so although I was annoyed, I didn't let it show on my face. He laughed at this and continued seriously. "My brother and I are going to show you both around camp. Don't mind about earlier by the way, it's just a small initiation ceremony."

With that, they both ushered us out the door, Travis merely saying, "Don't worry about the bag, no one will steal anything in there."

The twins gave Ophelia and I a quick tour of the camp. The forges interested me the most since I wanted to use a gun as a weapon. I actually went in and asked someone working in there about it. She didn't seem that busy so I approached her and asked a few questions. She laughed at the fact that I wanted a gun. Apparently most of the metal they use is celestial bronze, which is a rare material.

The bullets would be unable to be used again, therefore wasting the metal.

Although, the camp did seem to have a lot of it. Maybe if I came back later she'd be able to help. Worst comes to worst I can teach myself.

Also, the lava that I saw when I first arrived, was in fact real lava. Apparently all these activities are mandatory, which had me shaking at the fact. Usually I'm able to take things as they come, but lava? Even that scared me a bit.

Besides that, I was surprised that the dining pavilion didn't have more food options. I was tempted to ask to cook some stuff. It'd be fun and relaxing to do something familiar anyways. I asked the twins about it at the end of the tour. "You'd have to ask the dryads about that. I think they have someone else who was interested in that, not sure. They make all the food in the big house, which is that big blue house over there." Conner explained.

Travis stepped in front of us and said, "Alright, that's about it. Besides that though, a warning to you both. The Hephaestus cabin managed to lose a giant metal dragon in the forest, so don't go in there unless you want to die. Okay, time for the orientation film!"

He finished his sentence very quickly leaving us both a bit confused. Once I was able to process it, I sighed again.

————

The orientation film was boring. It was more of a glorified game show that "Apollo" had put together. I didn't really like game shows since they felt fake, and this was no exception. I learnt absolutely nothing.

Throughout the film I thought about a lot though. The metal dragon sounded cool, though Travis worded it like he wanted us both to go into the forest and get scared.

It'd probably be difficult to catch something like that, especially as a new "demigod". Speaking of which, I suddenly remembered that at the start of the tour the twins mentioned that Ophelia and I might be claimed by our godly parents tonight.

Apparently some demigod made the gods owe him a favor and chose to have everyone over thirteen claimed. Although I was only nine, most gods seemed to be claiming their children quickly to get it over with.

After the orientation film the sun had begin to set and the campers headed towards the dining pavilion.
