A Weird Forest

The sounds of birds chirping filled my ears as I felt a light breeze pass over my face.

My back was lightly prickled which annoyed me as I opened my eyes.

I was assaulted with a bright lush green forest which made me squint my eyes in disbelief.

I sat up and automatically looked around, I believe I was in a clearing in a forest as trees surrounded me letting light shine down in the middle.

The smell of dew from the grass was refreshing but unfamiliar in a way.

I tensed as I felt the grass move under my body startling me.

I felt so...sensitive.

I noticed what I was wearing when I looked down at myself.

A long sleeved cotton shirt, black dolphin shorts and...?

What are these???

I looked at my feet and noticed that there weren't shoes but golden ankle cuffs.

I was in even more confusion.

Was I wearing this before?

Before?

Wait....why can't I remember?

….Who am I?

Why am I here?

Countless questions filled my head as I tried my hardest to answer them but I couldn't.

Why?

I was in so much confusion that when I glanced at my legs I found faded intricate black markings across them, scaring me.

They were so faded they almost disappeared into my tanned skin, I barely noticed them.

Where did these tattoos come from?

No matter how long or how hard I thought, these questions never got answered.

I felt a slight pain in my head when I tried thinking too hard, discouraging me from thinking about my situation.

You would think being in such a calming area would help me think, but it was doing the exact opposite.

I got up on my feet, which had no shoes or socks.

What am I? A hobo?

I didn't like the sensation of grass under my feet, and it didn't help that the grass was a bit wet from the dew.

I guess it rained a bit.

I shuddered from how exposed I felt.

.....What do I do now?

I have no clue where I am, who I am, or how I ended up here.

What do you do in a situation like this?

Ugh....ok.

Survival instincts.

Maybe if I start off in a direction, I'm bound to see someone right?

Yeah.

I started walking forward with little sense of direction, hoping to find someone.

As I kept my hesitant pace, I began to notice something about this forest.

It's weird.

I know that's vague, but it's odd.

I'm seeing bushes with berries that glow.

Make a mental note not to eat those.

There are vines that spiral upwards onto trees with deadly looking needle hairs.

All in all, these are plants I've never even seen before, which is why I'm calling this forest the Weird Forest.

And what's even weirder is that the more I walk, the less I hear birds chirping.

I'm not an expert on birds...I think.

But that isn't exactly comfortable to me.

Ugh.

I've been walking for...I don't even know.

20 minutes? 30?

My legs are sore, and I'm starting to get hungry.

I would turn around and go back, but I think I've lost which direction I came from.

Way to go me.

The sun is still as vibrant as ever, even if I'm this deep in the weird forest the sun still finds a way to shine through the leaves.

Poetic almost.

But that's not enough from stopping me from being anxious, I don't know if I'll ever find my way out of this forest by myself.

What if night comes and I'm attacked by a wolf?

Oof.

With that thought in mind, it was enough to make me walk even faster.

Having to walk without shoes is the most uncomfortable feeling so far.

I don't even want to look at how dirty my feet are from all the dirt and wet leaves.

I swear when I get out of here I'm taking the hottest shower ever. Maybe even a bubble bath.

I smiled and sighed at the thought of such luxury when I was broken out of my thought by something that sounded like a branch snapping.

"W-Wah?" I said, caught off guard.

But when I turned to look at the disturbance, I saw nothing.

I'm not crazy, I definitely heard something snap.

Is it a predator?

Do I play dead?

Won't it just eat me if I'm already dead?

What if it's a person?

Uhhhh.

Weighing my options, I decided that if it was a person I would most likely hear footsteps, I decided to not test it.

At that thought, another branch-like sound was emitted from the clump of trees in the distance.

My heart rate increased considerably and I turned around and made myself go into a quick jog, carefully avoiding the tree roots.

Please please please please please let me find someone, please.

The vibrant light the various plants emitted went by in a blur as I increased my speed a bit more.

This sucks, why am I here?!?
