5 The commencement

Jamie introduced herself and tossed her humongous, bulky bag on the moist grass. "It's wet!" I called out to her, but she smiled and rolled her eyes blatantly; "It's okay."

She dabbed the ground, eyeing me quietly, as I sat next to her. Her hair was primly smooth with an adorable barrette clasping the braid to her head. She noticed me staring shamelessly, and turned to face me; "Is there something wrong?"

"Uh, no..." I lied as I looked away embarrassed. She chuckled at the astonishment on my face. "We should start now." As she turned, gesturing towards her bag. Jamie is a good friend of mine, and today we are partners for a school project; since my best friend, Dahyun, had to take off for something more salient. I felt forsaken and barren; as if I had been desolated in a narrow alleyway. Once she arrives, I would hammer her with my frustration, and punch her right where it hurts. I silently cursed Dahyun and muttered; "Hashtag sad life."

"Huh? Did you say something?" Jamie asked confusedly. I gulped my mounting saliva and answered an "N-no!". Jamie stared at me for a moment, as I smiled back awkwardly. Why am I fond of being preternatural and shaming myself in front of everyone? I found myself pondering over my sanity, and did not conclude.

Jamie handed me a book abruptly. I looked at her, perplexed by the situation. "It's a book, read it when you have time." "Oh, thanks!" I grabbed the book, and put it beside me.

TIME SKIP

Jamie had started packing her belongings and I assisted her obediently. "I had a great time, Jamie. Thanks." I told her warmly. She let out a grin and spoke; "Pleasure doing business with you." We shook hands, and she left through the front door.

I realized there was no car around, so I promptly stopped her; "Hey wait!" I yelled as loud as I could. She turned around, and by the look on her face, she seemed startled. "I have a car, I can drive you home." Jamie looked ahead hesitantly. "No." She stated and continued walking.

She straight-forwardly ignored me and left me with a dazed expression. I was bewildered by her reaction, but there was nothing wrong with offering her a lift, so why did she react that way? I wasn't gonna let her go that easily; "Hey Jamie, stop." She turned around once more, this time looking frightened. "It's late; my conscious wouldn't feel inculpable if I let you go without offering you a lift for a second time. It's late, and it seems inappropriate if I leave you like this." She faked a smile and laughed it off. "Hahahaha... I like walking. Yeah, I like walking!" She continued: "The weather's amazing! well, isn't it?" It was a rather humid afternoon, but I managed a smile. "Well, have a great walk."

I let out a chuckle as I saw her run away. She's possibly one of the worst liars. But why did she agitate so much? Well, whatever. I traced my steps back to my house. I was planning to prepare something wicked for Dahyun, but then I saw the book lying on the floor. "Oh.." I was tired to read it, so I took a hold of it and took it with me inside my house.
