19 Chapter 19

Kobeni and Arai were completely freaked out. Aki and Himeno were trying to find a way out. As for Denji, he joined Sam and Power, who were trying to enjoy their pizza.

"This food is delicious. Hope you don't mind sharing it," Denji said as he stuffed more pizza into his mouth.

Sam waved his hand. "You didn't ask for my opinion to eat in the first place."

"So that's a yes." Denji replied.

By looking at Denji, he could tell that there was a devil's heart inside him. However, his Devil Sense didn't tell him that he was a devil himself.

"So, what are we going to do?" Kobeni said. She and Arai sat down next to them and grabbed a slice of pizza.

"That's what I'm trying to figure out," Sam said, not seeming too worried.

Currently, he looked at Denji, Power, and everyone else as if they were chess pieces. Kobeni and Arai were pawns. No, pawns were more useful since you could use them to control diagonals. Denji was the Queen, and Power was the bishop. Aki and Himeno were the castles.

In the worst case, he could use Aki who had a sword that was given to him by the Curse Devil. That sword, however, would take some of his lifespan whenever he used it. But it would finish the job with one stab.

"We're not going to die here, are we?"

"No," Sam said. "First, the devil will wait until we have no food. Then, he will try to make a deal with us. Of course, that deal would just delay our inevitable death."

"Inevitable?" Kobeni joined her hands together. Shaking, she said, "I've never wanted to be a devil hunter. To pay for my brother's college fees, my father forced me into this or joining the red-light district."

That was a sad story, he guessed.

"Well, why don't you tell your father to get lost."

"But I can't. I owe my parents too much," Kobeni said, overwhelmed by the fear of death.

"Oh please. You didn't sign any debt contract when he shoved his... you know, into your mom. What does he own you? Nothing. He just wanted to convince you to stay as a slave while all he did was taking responsibility."

"Shut up! We need to get out, not worry about my past," she said, crying. "My whole life has been messed up. I don't want to die here!"

"And you, tough guy, going to cry soon?" Sam turned to Arai, who was visibly afraid, but he had it better.

"No. What's the point? Let's eat for now. As long as there is food, there is hope," Arai replied.

"That's the spirit," Sam stood up.

"Do you have anything in your head?"

"Yeah. Remember when I told you that this whole building is the devil's body?"

"Yep," said Denji. "So you mean we have to destroy the building from the inside. But won't it regenerate before we could do any real damage?"

"Let's attack it then." Sam pulled a candy from his pocket and into his mouth. It was supposed to last for two hours and keep him unaffected by the Infinity Devil's power.

Sam then pulled out his sword, which was recently enhanced, and walked to the wall. "Guys, just jump as soon as there's an opening. As for Denji, we'll stay here."

"Fine with me. Makima and I have a promise. So I'll kill this guy." Denji said. "Are you sure you can make an opening with that sword?"

"I can try." Sam took a deep breath and held the sheath with one hand, his other hand on the grip. He stared at the wall.

"Don't worry. We'll ask for help as soon as we get out. Just stay alive until then," Kobeni said, raising her fist.

"Do your best," Arai said.

"Silly of you. This moment shall last forever," Sam laughed. "It may be a second to you, but to us, it would last longer."

<<Moonlight Cut>> x4

Using the Moon Cut skill four times, Sam managed to draw a rectangle. The sword was still in its sheath. Once he was done, he jumped and kicked the wall, sending it flying. That took a toll on his MP reserves, but he had plenty anyway.

"Now!"

Arai and Kobeni ran and jumped. Their bodies, as soon as they left the building, froze.

The wall regenerated almost instantly.

"Power, why didn't you jump?" Sam asked Power, who was still eating.

"I think I can fight," she said.

"Okay, Denji, you go to another floor. I'll go somewhere else," Sam replied.

"Whatever," Denji said, putting his hands behind his head and walking. "What am I supposed to do?"

"If you find any sign of flesh, cut it. Make it feel pain," Sam said.

He then closed his eyes, trying to sense something else. Previously, he could tell that Denji wasn't a devil, but there was one inside him, thanks to his Devil Sense. Sam's sense was like hearing and seeing. He could focus on one element, like hearing different layers of music in one song and even focusing on just one of them. Sam was trying to sense the piece of the Gun's devil.

"Didn't you sleep well last night?" Power asked him. "That's what you get for putting your sausage inside of Himeno."

"Shut up. I'm trying to locate where the most demonic feeling is," Sam said.

Bit by bit, he could tell there was a strong feeling coming from another direction. He assumed that's where the fragment of the Gun Devil was located. He could also tell where its heart was.

"Bingo," Sam smiled. Now all he had to do was wait for Denji to engage in a fight with the Infinity Devil, which should make it feel pain.

After an hour or so, Himeno and Aki joined.

"Where is Denji?" Aki asked. "And the others."

"I've helped them get out. As for Denji, he is..." Sam said but paused when he heard a scream from many people.

He continued, "He's engaged in a fight with the Infinity Devil. So now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go somewhere." He then used his sword to cut a door through a wall, walking through it. Himeno tried to walk after him, but the door regenerated.

"Sam! Get back!" Himeno yelled.

Sam ignored her. He reached into his pocket and grabbed an energy drink. As he sipped, he got the notification. [+60 MP]

Now, it was time to assassinate the Infinity Devil while it was busy dealing with Denji.

"Man. This is a top-tier devil. How much XP should it be worth? Hehe!" A big, innocent smile was drawn on his face.
