Chapter 23

Simon's back was sweating.

He had been afraid of Hank since he was a child and had never gone against him. He got sweaty even they were just standing face to face to each other.

Sara begged softly, "...Hank, I'm freezing and starving. I'll cook you some noodles when we're back, okay?" Sara begged softly.

Hank's gaze finally moved from Simon to Sara. Hank gave her a gentle pinch, her face was soft but cold. Sara must have caught a cold.

Hank put his coat on Sara. She was petite, the coat looked like an oversized dress on Sara. Her rosy face and her pearly white teeth turned him on.

Sara looked at Hank with her eyes opened widely, afraid that he would do something to harm Simon if he was not happy.

Hank scoffed, "You were freezing. weren't you? Let's go back now."

She nodded, "Alright..."

She pushed Hank's wheelchair and they left. Looking at her tiny back, Simon summoned the courage and yelled, "Sara!"

"..." Sara ignored him and continued pushing Hank's wheelchair.

"Sara, I will not give up if you don't tell me the truth!" Simon said in a husky voice.

Hank turned to look at Simon who was standing in the moonlight, looking lonely. Sara felt numb, she thought Hank was irritated. However, after a long moment, he sneered, "If I were you, I wouldn't have let anyone to take away what belonged to me."

Back at the yard, Sara noticed that the cake boxes on the table had been kept. The cake boxes were like Hank and Sara, they were finally getting closer but the bond between them had been kept and was vanished.

Hank was silent on the way back. His eyes were closed and he looked exhausted.

Sara felt she must do what she was supposed to do as a young bride. Hence, she asked carefully, "Master Bishop, are you sleepy?"

Hank opened his icy eyes and looked at her, "Don't you have something to tell me?"

Her face, which was already pale from the chilly night wind, got paler. She unconsciously bit her lower lip and said, "Simon and I used to be classmates."

Hank's expression remained the same. It was hard to tell if he was angry, "And?"

Sara thought, he must be angry. After all, every man would hate it if their spouse was still involved with another man.

Sara lowered her head. She was anxious, didn't know where to start.

She met Simon by accident. She developed feelings for him, but that was a long time ago and it wasn't anything serious to begin with. Moreover, life drew them apart. Those feelings were gone now. However, the sadness and pain was real, love was real too. How could she possible tell Hank that?

Although she was petty and was just Hank's puppet, she didn't want Hank to look down on her. Therefore, she said bravely, "I... used to like Simon." Hank's eyes showed a hint of hostility. It was like his territory had been invaded.

Sara didn't see it, she bowed her head and continued, "But he transferred to another school later. I never promised him anything, nor was I in a relationship with him... Master Bishop, I truly have no feelings for him now."

Hank remained silent.

There was a long silence in the room. Perhaps William and Camilla were right. Hank might just kill her out of anger that night.

...That must be painful.

Sara's face crumbled.

Maybe she could ask Hank to do it after she got anesthetized on her whole body...

"Come here." Hank's voice was husky. He might have caught a cold.

Sara went to him in fear and tremble, thinking Hank was going hurt her.

Hank grabbed her wrist with his freezing hand and pulled her onto his lap. Sara gasped and looked up at Hank.

Hank pinched her chin, "You don't like him anymore? Huh?"

His deep voice made her shudder.

Despite realizing that it was an inappropriate timing, Sara blushed, "I... I didn't really like him that much..."

Hank chuckled, "I didn't know you were so wild. Huh?"

Sara was burning. She moved a little on his lap, "...I was grateful for him. He was... very kind to me."

Perhaps the lack of love in Sara's life naturally hardened her as a person. She was a completely different person from what she looked like. She was a hard-hearted person. Once, she fell for Simon but the love had disappeared before she fell deeper in love with him. Hence, it didn't really leave an imprint in her heart.

Even now as she thought of Simon, the first thing that came to her mind was not his gentle smile but the bullying and humiliation she had endured in Seventh High School.

Hank's voice was gentle, "Am I not good to you?"

Sara quickly replied, "... You're good to me!"

Hank looked at her in the eyes and asked, "So is Simon better or I?"

Most people would have said Hank was better. However, Sara carefully compared the two of them.

If Simon was sunlight, then Hank... would be the sun, like the glimmer in a firefly. How could they be compared?

Sara answered genuinely, "You treat me better."

Hank was satisfied, he pinched her cheeks and said, "If that is the case, then you should only think of me in future, in your heart and your mind."

He paused for a moment, his smile turned a little grim, "If you go against me, I'll feed you to the leopards."

Sara was so scared that she trembled a little, "I... I will listen to you."

Hank kissed her on the cheeks, as if giving her a reward, "Good girl."

Sara instantly flushed like a plum blooming in the harshest of winter. She was gorgeous.

Hank held Sara in his arms and said, "Let's take a shower."

"Okay." Sara nodded. When she realized that she did not bring any toiletries and spare clothing with her, Hank said, "Take a look at the wardrobe."

Sara stepped forward suspiciously and opened the big wardrobe in the room. Apart from Hank's garments, there was also a large pile of women's clothing. The colors were soft and natural. There were even two sets of uniform, probably from the Scrollania College.

Hank propped his chin with one hand, "Inner-wears are in the drawer."

Sara blushed. She saw it, he even got her the right sizes!

Hank smirked lazily, "Happy?"
