7 First Meeting
After nodding, Mei right away shook his hand for a brief moment before sitting down along with Zixin who first pulled out the chair for Mei before sitting down.
They both were quiet people and so they sat down to look at the menu before calling for a waiter to quietly take their order before the room once again fell into silence.
Zixin decided to break the silence first, "so Ms. Lin, why don't we ask a few questions about each other to know each other better? I don't know about you, but my grandmother was a little too excited about this blind date and she has met you before so now she said even if we do not end up as lovers she wants us to end up as friends" he never spoke this much at once but for a strange reason, he felt at peace with the girl sitting opposite to him in the private room. He never felt this before but thought that them ending up as friends would not be so bad.
Mei thought for a bit but she also did not feel any bad intent from the man sitting across from her so she replied back, "sure, you can ask first"
Zixin said, "um ok, why did you choose lawyer as your profession? If I am not wrong, Master Lin is the CEO of Lin Martial Empire, so how come you decided not to work there? Of course I do not mean it is bad you work as a lawyer but why not choose to work for your family company then?" he was curious about this when he read her profile before this blind date
Mei smiled at this and returned it back with another question, "I could also ask you the same. You are the heir of Xiong Medical Corps. yet you choose to work elsewhere."
Zixin scratched his nape unconsciously and replied back, "well I have an older brother who currently is working as the CEO and my father being the chairman so I do not need to inherit or work there unless something happens to them. But I have heard you're the only child to your father?"
Mei nodded and said, "that is true, since your grandmother seems to be close to mine, I will tell you this, I am going to inherit the company later but right now I wish to work in a profession I am passionate about. Yes, I do like my father's business but currently not as much as my current profession of Law."
Zixin nodded and said, "well now that you have answered mine, ask away yourself"
Mei went silent thinking for a while before asking, "why did you agree on going to this blind date? Or are you really filial to your grandmother too?"
Zixin just smiled and replied back, "I am filial to my grandmother but actually I am a curious person. When I heard it was with the youngest but most accomplished lawyer of this generation I was curious to see how this lawyer would be like in real life. So I came to meet you as I have heard of you from famous cases domestically and even of the international case you handled before"
Mei smiled before she commented, "well thank you for your highly regarded thoughts about me. To the international case, although I work mostly for this country, I also can work as an international lawyer, however I prefer not working for international affairs."
Zixin nodded and said, "I see-" before he could continue, the doors opened and the waiter came in with the food. Unknowingly they had talked for around 30 minutes and now it is time to eat.
While Lin Mei and Xiong Zixin were chatting, Wang Chen and the others in Dragon 4 came to the same restaurant to eat and celebrate the fact that Kaito can finally rest and not be so strained from this case. Yes he can get help from his connections or even his father however...the cold war between the two has manifested to the point Master Ito refuses to help him and blocked his way of using his own connections as Master Ito was truly angered this time with the rumors surrounding his son.
Kaito walked in first as he reserved the room and talked to the front desk at the restaurant. While he was checking in to get their reserved room, Chen and the others were behind Kaito indifferent faces except Minseok had a slightly warmer face compared to Chen and Feng who looked as if they were ice statues.
After they got settled in the private room, everyone relaxed a bit after having no outsiders near them. Even Chen's face was not as aloof as before as he was surrounded by his brothers from different parents.
- some time later -
After eating, both Chen and Mei had to use the restroom and in the VIP area, there were 2 restrooms for males and females that were situated next to each other.
When they both were done with their business, they bumped into each other.
Mei's face bumped into Chen's hard chest, thanks to his efforts in the gym and martial arts for defensive training, while Chen grunted in surprise because he collided with Mei.
Mei quickly leaned out of Chen's embrace and rubbed her head while Chen stared at her indifferently thinking she was like those other women who would throw themselves at him giving no respect to him or their dignity.
Mei, after finishing rubbing her forehead, looked up and apologized with her aloof face before leaving.
Chen was stunned that she was not like those other women but was also relieved at the same time. He found her amusing as well and thought, 'If we are meant to meet each other again then I will run an investigation on you. However since we only met once let's leave it to fate to see if I shall see you again. If not, I will just treat this as some incident from the past' before turning to leave to go back to the private room where Kaito, Minseok, and Feng were waiting.
Mei returned back to her blind date and at the end of it, she felt she found a new friend. It was not easy for her to make friends but he made her feel at ease and they had a common interest, martial arts. For her, it was her family legacy and something that interested her. For Zixin, martial arts were very cool to him and he even learned some during his childhood out of pure interest. He still followed news about martial arts occasionally when he was not super busy at MIC.
Zixin walked her to her car before smiling and saying, "I had a great time Mei. I hope we can talk with each other again. Will you like to exchange contact information such as WeChat?"
Mei nodded and opened her phone to scan his QR code before putting back her phone in her purse and said, "it was nice chatting with you Zixin. See you in the future" with that she got into her car and left.
Zixin smiled and walked over to his car and left to drive back to the Xiong estate to convey what had to his grandmother who was very eager to know what had happened.
Chen, Kaito, Minseok, and Feng were done just some time after and came to the parking lot just in time to see Zixin sending Mei off.
To Kaito she looked very familiar and tried to rack his brain as to where he saw her before. Chen on the other hand recognize both Mei because of their run in together and Zixin as his business also dealt with medicine and recognize the young genius doctor who now is a professor at Peking University though he spends most of his time as a researcher in MIC, the biggest Medical Institution in China not only recognized in China but also internationally renowned for their research.
Moments later Kaito shouted and said, "Oh! Now I remember! She looks like Lawyer Lin! I think it is her! However, I wonder who was that man just then"
