14 Fairy Cakes

Thoughts of the odd occurrence yesterday never left my head. Falling asleep was impossible when my mind was bombarded with so many questions and thoughts.

Every single day in this realm surprises me with a discovery or mysteries to be unlocked. My feeling of uncertainty is rapidly increasing, making me doubt whether I should carry on with my life here or immediately find my way back home.

Although, what's certainly keeping me here are the scrumptious dishes on the table, three meals a day. Some luxury I never get back home.

The moment I take a big bite out of the fairy cakes, my headache from the lack of sleep instantaneously disappears. Four days I've been here, that's four days having fairy cakes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I don't appear to get tired of having it.

"Rose, you've been having fairy cakes for a while now. Do you want a change for your breakfast? You can tell me, and I'll inform the chef."

My eyes snapped towards Blossom, who's sipping her tea, "it's okay, I like these," I reply, forgetting that my mouth is full. My hand slaps my mouth shut, and I swallow before apologizing.

Blossom chuckles, the sunlight seeping from the window reaches her eyes, making it sparkle.

"Okay, eat slowly, or you might choke," she replies, leaving me a smile.

I nod at her, my mind drifting back to my thoughts, recalling Blossom's reaction after seeing me by the door. She looked fearful of what was inside that door. If Blossom herself is afraid of something, then I must avoid whatever that is at all cost.

"Rosetta," I look up to Blossom as she speaks, "she was going to take you here that night."

"How do you know that?"

She puts her cup down and places both her hands together on the table. To think that I was the only one who's lost in my thoughts this morning. It's evident in her facial expression that she's bothered with something for some time now.

"She said she'll bring you somewhere nice, right? She was going to bring you here."

"How do you think would she have done that?" I queried. Maybe Blossom might know how the necklace works.

She sighs as she sits back on her chair, "I'm not sure. Maybe she found another portal?"

Blossom doesn't know about the necklace.

"Does my mother own any valuable items?" maybe Blossom only needs to be enlightened about the necklace.

"Like what?"

"Like a ring, amulet, or... a necklace," I try to hint. She goes silent for a second as she's deep in thought.

Out of the blue, she laughs, and I look at her, puzzled, "I don't think so. Rosetta was quite secretive with her belongings or her whereabouts. Did you know that your mother was crowned queen?"

Such bad timing to reveal such things, that sudden revelation made me choke on my drink, making me cough uncontrollably.

With my eyes watering, I exclaim, "What! My mother? She was Queen?"

"I thought Faye would have told you already."

Remembering that night, Faye was about to tell me my mother was royalty when the attack happened. I try to digest yet another discovery. This is incredibly surprising; my mother was royalty.

"That would make you a princess, and you'll be crowned Queen of Dazia on your eighteenth birthday." I stare at her wide-eyed, unsure what I can say to reply to that.

---

I release my grip on the fletcher sending the arrow flying straight at the center of the target. The second time I'm getting a bullseye, I'd be doing a victory dance while sticking my tongue out at Rhys right now if only my mind were present.

My mother was friends with mythical creatures, defeated the queen of Beorene, and was crowned queen of Dazia. I didn't know my mother was that wondrous of a person. I can't get being royalty off my mind, me a princess? One look at me, and it's implausible.

"Hey princess!" my head snaps towards the right where Rhys stands, holding a quiver half-filled with arrows, "wear this, so I don't have to pass you arrows all the time."

He takes my bow and passes me the quiver for me to wear. I thank him, hoisting the quiver to my back and strapping the leather belt across my chest. I take the bow back from Rhys and reach behind me for another arrow. I move to the next target and place the arrow on the bow, readying myself as I lift the bow.

I'm trying my best to push the thoughts away. My mind has been busy since last night; I believe I need a break from thinking.

Standing still, I pulled on the string and was about to let go when Rhys jumps a few meters in front of me. Startling me, my eyes widen, and I scream, accidentally letting go. The arrow appears to move in slow motion, and I watch Rhys drop to the ground, successfully avoiding the arrow as it passes the upper tip of his hair.

He gets up in an instant, placing both his hands on his hips; he looks back and sees the arrow on the target, "that was close," he gasped.

I drop my bow, furiously rushing towards him, punching his chest, which wasn't a great idea since he was wearing metal armor.

"Do you have a death wish!" I raise my voice, questioning his sanity.

He gives me his famous cheeky grin, "not really, I don't fancy death that much."

I shake my head, sighing away as I move to the next target. Rhys goes up to me, taking my wrist, making me face him.

His icy blue eyes stare into my green ones; it's mesmerizing. He holds both my shoulders making me frown.

"What?" I question his alarming actions.

"Stop it," he says.

"Stop what?"

He sighs, "tell your mind to stop distracting you."

If only it's that easy. I'm seeing elves and hearing rocks talk but what happened yesterday is even weirder. When I thought that's enough to run my thoughts, Blossom shares a piece of intriguing news. I don't know how to take it all in.

"You don't look pretty having your face all scrunched up when you're deep in thought," he teases, making me gasp.

"Go away," I say, pushing off his hands to go back to my practice.

"Okay, I know you're upset, but I'll make it up to you."

I laugh, releasing another arrow and surprisingly getting another bullseye, "make it up to me by keeping your mouth shut."

"How about some fairy cakes," just hearing the word fairy cakes stopped me in my tracks, "fairy cakes are your favorite, right? The trolls won't stop talking about a girl who devours six fairy cakes every breakfast."

Rhys lets out a roar of laughter; my cheeks heat up. I face him with a big frown on my face, "I only have them for breakfast," I defend myself.

"Like six of them?"

"No."

"Why you are a lying little beast," he teases.

Out of my control, my hands start continuously hitting his arm. My face feels warm from humiliation, "I'm not a beast!"

Rhys is undeniably an aggravating elf to be with. I don't know how I'm going to survive with him being my mentor in the future. I continue giving him pathetic hits while he carries on laughing when someone clears their throat, earning our attention.

Rhys' eyes widen, seeing the person behind me, so I turn around to meet the lady elven knight with curly white hair. It was Ena, the other beautiful elf.

My eyes travel to what she's wearing, armor on from her neck to her arms, but the torso is cut short, revealing her toned stomach. Thankfully she's wearing long, lightly armored pants with boots covering her long legs—what a sight.

"Commander Rhys, Blossom wants to see you," she says, urgency in her voice.

"Well, would you excuse me," Rhys says from behind me, tapping my shoulder as he moves towards Ena, but he stops midway, turning to me finishing his sentence, "fairy cakes?"

I glare at him. He coughs out another laugh before walking off with Ena. I watch them talk to each other while they walk; a sudden feeling on my stomach bothers me when I eye Ena's armor as she walks. Her body looks gorgeous in that armor. She's intimidatingly stunning.

And she looks so well paired with Rhys.
