139 A Warning

The fireplace burned, warming the silent room. I let myself gaze out of the window at the mist-covered outdoor. I can barely make out the trees and the garden of the courtyard. Anyone that walks through would be concealed by the thick fog, without a trace of their destination.

I sat on the edge of the bed with my back leaning on the wooden pole that holds my canopy up. I brought my legs to my chest when my eyes trailed down to the soulless body that laid under the thick covers. There's no sign of breathing, a heartbeat; there's no sign of life. The sight of Rhys' colorless face and cracked lips brought tears to my eyes.

My mind clouded with memories of the time we spent together. Despite our regular annoyances and disagreements, we managed to form a lasting relationship. I would never have expected that Rhys' sometimes frightening, cold blue eyes that showed so much life and courage are now closed without assurance when he could ever open it again.
