7 How the hybrid school works

As we arrived at the school again we got into our classroom and to our all surprise, Mr. Black was already waiting for us, his mood appeared to be quite angry. After five more minutes of waiting, everyone had finally arrived and with that Mr. Black started the lesson.

"I hope you kids will get used to waking up early fast, because if by tomorrow any of you arrive after me you all will have to attend an afternoon detention class", he declared.

Nobody dared to say anything to his statement, because everyone was wary of Mr. Black already from yesterday. His rather strict first impressions made all of us respect him right away.

"Anyways, let us start with our lesson for this morning now. Today I will tell you more on how this school works. First of all, as most of you probably already know, this school aims to train young hybrids to be valuable assets for the human military. Not all of you will have to fight though because there are many other jobs a skilled hybrid can do. For example, a hybrid skilled with celestial energy manipulation can create very useful objects just like the alarm you got to know already. The far more important skill, however, is creating weapons in such a way. To figure out what your strong and weak points are and how you can take advantage of those, we will have a practical exam in the afternoon. But don't worry, there isn't any failing in this exam. It just aims to identify your current abilities and every six months you will have another one of these, so you can see how you have developed", Mr. Black explained, with all of us listening closely.

"After four years in this school you all will graduate, independent of your skill level. By this point all of you should be around the age of 16 which makes you eligible for military. You can't really make the decision anyway if you will join or not because by going to this school you have to. Later on, however, you will be able to make the decision to leave, but not after achieving a certain minimum of standards. The military doesn't want to make any resources go to waste after all. All of that is in the far future for now. In the first year you will learn more about the world in theoretical exams and in practical ones you will train to become stronger with the help of us teachers. Second year, you will learn the theoretical practices to further cultivate your body and your strength and will start to train more independently in practical lessons. Year three and four you will be training by yourself but you can still get some lessons with the regular class if you choose to do so. This aims to overcome bottlenecks if you struggle with these by yourself."

"I will be your main mentor for all of these four years together with Lisa, who some of you got to know already. She will joins us in the practical lessons in the afternoon and will do most of the practical lessons. For this week however, she won't be the only teacher joining us, as most of you need help in your practical lessons."

"Do you have any questions for now?" he asked, finishing his explanations for now.

That was quite a lot of information to digest for all of us so nobody came up with questions to ask. I wondered if leaving the military really was as easy as proving your worth and saying goodbye, but I didn't dare to ask Mr. Black that.

"Well, if you don't have any questions for now, I will continue with the history of hybrid schools in general and this hybrid school specifically. Hybrid schools were first created eight years ago when the blue family took the lead of humanity. They always had ambitious plans to go up against the celestial races and with them taking the leadership they finally had their chance to prove the worth of their plans. This project of them aims to strengthen young hybrids like you kids to fight for humanity. Humans also participate in the fight but because they aren't able to use celestial energy, hybrids are just the better choice. The hybrid schools are named after their geographical location in the human nation, there are the North, East, West, Central and as last the South hybrid school, which is the one you got admitted to. Nobody can choose which hybrid school they will attend, everyone is distributed randomly. This particular school was created five years ago, so we already had our first graduates go to the military and they were able to make great achievements so far. The last thing you will have to know is the most important person in this school. His name is Greg Red and he is the headmaster of this school. He holds a very high positions in his family and is known for his cruel teaching methods, so I don't want to be in your skin if you get into detention class, as it is held by the headmaster himself."

After telling us some further horror stories on other teachers, Mr. Black decided to end the lesson and told us they location where we would meet up again in the afternoon. By now it was around noon, Mr. Black really likes to talk a lot and I had to fight really hard not to take a short nap to avoid in the fear of getting detention. He led us to the cafeteria and showed how we can get our lunch there. The lunch was even better than the breakfast in the morning and I once again ate two portions.

"I hope my appetite will go back to normal soon, everyone is looking at me strangely since I got the second one", I thought whilst happily enjoying my meal.
