10 Princess Myra?

The imperial guards, who by now had learned of the commotion and came running were even more confused. Who was this girl with the Aer name? They had never seen her before. Were they supposed to protect her like the other well-known members of the royal family?

"Nell, Liam!" Myra whispered to her new friends. "What is going on? Why is everyone calling me a princess?"

Nell stared at her, not believing that she asked him such an obvious question. "I am sorry your highness, but if you wanted to keep your identity hidden, it was not a good idea to announce your full name in front of everyone. Everyone knows that the only family with a divine bloodline that would give someone the Aer name are the direct royal descendants. It was like telling everyone your identity."

Judging from the strange look on Myra's face, she really did not know. 'Not only did she want to keep her identity hidden from others, she also did not know the relationship between her name and her family? What is wrong with this girl?' Nell just couldn't understand her.

"Well, you see, the problem is, I am not part of their royal family." she whispered to Nell making him stare at her for a moment. If she was not part of the royal family of Luminos, then who was she to have a divine bloodline?

"Oh." was all Nell could respond with for a moment. "You better keep that little bit of information to yourself, the crowd is already confused enough. Maybe … maybe you can sort it out afterwards?"

Nell never had a need to deal with politics, as such as a 14 year old, dealing with this type of situation was way beyond him and he could only shrug and hope for the best.

"Your highness, we will soon return to the academy. Will you stay at the academy or will you stay in the palace and only come to the academy for lessons?" one of the teachers of the academy asked her all of a sudden. It seemed like she was not the only one who had no idea how to handle this situation she currently found herself in.

"Please don't call me highness, or princess or anything like it. I'm just a student here like everyone else at your academy. I will be staying at the academy like all the others, unless that would be a problem?" Myra replied trying her best to make them understand that she was neither royalty nor a princess of any kind.

The teachers as well as other students however interpreted her reply quite differently. Even some of the nobles seemed to be inspired by it. "Now that's what you call humble. Even someone like her wants to be treated the same way as all the others, how could a lowly person like myself not follow her example!" It did not take long for many to follow her 'example' and announce that they would treat her as a role model and also give up on their benefits, to be treated like everyone else.

Soon afterwards Myra found herself on her way to the academy, located a short distance outside of the capital on a beautiful little hill surrounded by a small forest. While she caused quite the commotion, in the end it still turned out rather positive for her. She found some friends, got into an academy that seemed to her liking and would hopefully be able to advance further on her path soon. As for the little problems with royalty, she would worry about it some other time.

"Your majesty! Your majesty! Your loyal subject humbly requests an audience for an urgent matter."

Emperor Vandor Aer did not know if he should just laugh it off, or if he should kill a few people to calm down his anger. He barely had a full night of peaceful sleep since the little girl came to his capital causing havoc.

"Come in, what is it that has you in such a state to run here as if some devils were right on your heels Duke Corm?"

He could already imagine what got the man in such an uproar. Today was the day of the academy examinations. He still clearly remembered his general telling him that this was the little girl's goal. She probably had quite the achievement in her training, if even a duke of his, wanted to tell him of their woes.

"Your majesty, thank you for your time. There is an impostor in the capital. By some unknown way a little girl deceitfully manipulated the truth crystal and claimed to be of the royal bloodline! There must be a conspiracy! How could a before unknown girl have divine blood flowing in her veins. Treason your majesty."

Vandor raised his arm to stop the duke from speaking any further.

"Duke Corm, you want to tell me that her name is Aer?"

The Duke nodded with a worried face. "The name she claimed was Myra Elení Aer your majesty." he said cautiously. Duke Corm was used to the ways of politics and he quickly noticed that his emperor referred to the girl as 'her' instead of 'the girl'. No surprise was seen on his face either when hearing about the girl. He only seemed to be surprised that she had the divine bloodline.

Could it be that there was a bastard child that turned out to have the royal bloodline that no one knew about?

"I thank you for bringing this information to me Duke Corm. Be assured however, that there is no mistake or conspiracy about her name. She is currently learning about the world. It is not good for us to interfere too much, she has to learn some things on her own."

The duke was speechless for a moment, but stranger things happened in the past. After taking a moment to calm down, he decided to just treat Myra like a child with the divine bloodline who had been hidden away, a child the emperor seems to be very fond of for some reason.

"Would it not be better to send some guards with her your majesty?"

"I appreciate your concern old friend, but you need not worry. General Jaros is hopefully keeping her out of bigger trouble. As long as the Saints and Archmages of the great clans do nothing silly, there is no need to worry for them. I'm sure her guardian will just stay in the shadows."

Duke Corm quickly changed the importance of the girl in his mind. Who exactly was this girl that the emperor personally assigned a Hierophant powerhouse not for her protection, but to keep others away. Not only that but what was with this mysterious guardian that Saints and Archmages have to worry about? He still remembered that they were warned a few weeks ago not to upset a young girl who had the royal family's badge, but never would he have expected that this little girl would be such an important descendant to the throne.

He bowed and wanted to excuse himself when he was stopped by Vandor again.

"Tell me Corm … what abilities did she show during the examination?"

"You need not be worried your majesty. Your descendant showed an exceptional skill in all seven magic varieties as well as a strong aptitude for the knight path. Except for the fact that she seemed unused to presenting herself in front of a crowd, which is not uncommon for such a young girl, her training and upbringing seems flawless. She is sure to become a heaven defying genius that you can be proud of in the future."

Vandor nodded then excused the duke. Pondering over what was said, he just hoped his gamble would turn out fine. He did not know how this sister of the girl, or let alone her parents or guardians would react to him letting people believe that she was his descendant, or even his child. It was a risky move, however it might also bring him closer to the girl. He could always excuse his actions by telling her guardian that with everyone thinking that she was part of their family she would be shielded from most of the troubles from other clans.

As there had never been much internal strife within the family, he was not worried that one of his own kids would start any trouble. None of his descendants seemed very happy about ruling. It was the only reason why he still sat on this throne instead of letting one of the younger generation take over. Knowing his descendants, let alone his sister who adored children, it was more likely that the girl might find some overly protective older brothers and sisters rather than any threats.

Now that he thought about it, an idea seemed to form in his mind. Maybe it was time to send her a 'royal sibling' to keep her company.
