57 Of Titles and Responsibilities

It did not take a long time for the next big announcement the royal family made that was related to princess Myra.

"A kingdom! The whole western part of the empire was expanded and they made it a kingdom!"

"Yeah, her Highness Princess Myra is now Queen of the Celestial Kingdom as well."

"That's an interesting name, now it makes sense that her flying archers are called Celestial Archers."

This time there was no big ceremony at the palace, it was just an announcement and both the commoners as well as the nobles were informed of this without anyone even asking for their opinion.

There were a lot of discussions about how this new kingdom would influence them in their daily lives. No one took a stance against her, as this seemed like folly, but many were worried that it might negatively influence Luminos.

The big majority though was either just curious or happy about this new place. The nobles were happy about the strong ally that would make other empires think twice before starting an invasion, while the commoners were happy about the large amount of jobs and the influence that Myra's reign would have on them.

It was easy to find out, even for the commoners, that most of Myra's 'nobles' were not born noble but all came from humble backgrounds as well. Not only did this new Queen seem like a kind ruler, but she brought many new ideas and inventions that would make the lives of everyone better.

No one even bothered to mention that she was also a strong ruler. With everyone knowing that she was by far the most powerful person around, this was just too obvious.

While there was not much said to the public in Silverspire, it was a rather different situation to the west of it. It was really crowded in the Celestial Kingdom's magic tower, with many people listening to the announcement of their new Queen.

Queen Myra was well liked among the small population of her new Kingdom. Just a few thousand people were living in it so far and many of them were friends and families of people who were close to Myra.

Currently, they were in the middle of announcing roles and responsibilities, noble titles and dividing land. Unlike in any other empire or Kingdom however, it was all a rather relaxed and casual affair.

They were all sitting together in one of the big formal halls. It was not closed to the public, not a real throne room and more designed to let others watch their decisions and discussions.

Of course they also had a real throne room, but for this meeting they decided to make it public.

Myra started her speech long ago, telling everyone a bit about her plans for their Kingdom, ways to make it prosper and ideas for the future.

"As we need a certain structure for ruling this large place, I will now appoint people who will be responsible for parts of this land and people who will be responsible for certain tasks in our Kingdom."

"Those people have worked hard to make this Kingdom a reality, as such it is not strange to reward them with these positions."

"First of all Aaron." Myra looked at her husband with a happy look.

"As my husband I think I don't need to explain why he will be your King. It would be rather troublesome if I'd pick someone else instead."

Everyone started to laugh. Their relationship was well known and the wedding took place just recently. No one was surprised by this outcome.

"We will share the responsibility of ruling. If we cannot agree on something and our loyal followers also are in disagreement, then I will make the final decision though."

"Aaron, do you accept this position, with all the rights and responsibilities it entails?"

She looked over at Aaron who also had a big smile on his face.

"As we didn't even discuss those responsibilities yet, I'm fine with it as long as it includes being in your bed at night."

Everyone chuckled again, this time not as openly, because some were worried it might anger their new Queen, who was blushing furiously, but it was hard to miss anyways.

"Everyone welcome your new King!" People started to cheer before Myra could even finish her words. Aaron was standing up and waving at the people before sitting back down again. When things calmed down again, Myra continued.

Some people who were used to nobility and court related matters were still astonished how short an amount of time the whole 'crowning' of their new king took.

It seemed as if they were all talking about cabbages instead of appointing nobility, but Myra and her friends didn't care, they used that right of autonomy that was granted from the Emperor to the fullest.

"Our daughter Rae will become a Princess of the Celestial Kingdom, as she is still rather young, she has no special responsibilities yet."

"Next we have separated the Kingdom in various areas, to make it easier to rule. While our funds are limited and for the time being, all governing facilities will be located in this tower, once we grow in numbers and economic strength there will be castles or other facilities there, where those appointed people can rule from."

She raised her hand and cast an illusion spell to show a map with the borders of the Celestial Kingdom.

"The Kingdom is separated into various parts as you can see. The central part, where this tower is standing, will be directly governed by King Aaron and myself. Surrounding this area are various smaller areas. At the borders there are a few big areas that will be given to our most trusted followers."

"We want our borders secure and as such it falls to the strongest and most loyal to secure them. The first of these areas and the largest one at that, will be given to our new Duke Liam and Duchess Alyn."

"Given their current relationship we'd rather give them one larger territory, than have them separated."

She grinned at them before continuing. "If things don't work out between them as we expect it will, they could always make two areas out of it instead."

Now it was Liam's turn to blush. Alyn handled topics about their relationship much better and she just smiled at Myra happy that she would get such an offer.

"We accept." She replied to Myra, as Liam did not look like he would say anything and continue blushing.

Once more there was quite a bit of laughter, someone even made a comment about who would be wearing the pants in this area.

"Then there's the next area that will fall on Duke Nell to handle. No Nell, I don't care if you want Tia all to yourself, I still need her advice on other tasks, but don't worry, once we have the outer regions settled I will make sure to make transfer arrays available for her to come home after work is done each day."

Nell and Tia just stared at Myra. They were still at the point one could call 'dating' and far from Liam and Alyn's stable relationship. Being called out like that felt rather odd, but Nell just nodded.

"I agree to the role, thank you my Queen" Nell accepted his role without any fuss. Who would refuse becoming a Duke, especially one of a Kingdom you have helped build?

"Speaking of Tia, Lady Tia will be our advisor and responsible for various things, including some information and security related aspects. She will hold the title of Marchioness."

Tia curtseyed like a proper noble, actually the first one of all of them who acted even slightly as if this was some honor or ceremony instead of treating it like any other conversation at the dinner table. Her far better etiquette showed a lot. "Thank you Queen Myra."

"Lord Yannis, who has offered us his support in taking care for Celestial Armaments for such a long time and helped in establishing the necessary funds to create this kingdom, will be appointed as Earl."

"He will receive a piece of land next to the Mage tower and for the time being unless he wants to retire or let his granddaughter rule there right away, the crown will make sure his property is well maintained, as he will be rather busy taking care of our shop and our holdings across the empire."

The list went on and on with some minor noble titles for people who had contributed a lot to the work on the kingdom. A mason who showed outstanding skill was appointed as Baron, As were a scholar and a farmer who brought up ideas on taxes and agriculture respectively.

Myra not only offered them a noble title, she also acquired teachers for them to learn how to rule and brush up their education as well as the education of their children.

When the appointment of nobles was complete, they were still left with many territories that were left without anyone to rule. Myra just decided to keep them for the crown until they would find someone who showed themselves worth of it.

They returned to some more secluded place to discuss matters of their kingdom further.

"I think it's about time we plan a little journey to inform the other empires and kingdoms around us of our existence. I also told that advisor I would visit them, I can't go back on my words after all."

Aaron could easily understand what she wanted to do. "Do you plan on using the flight gear?"

"Probably, but I should be close to get my body to the point where it doesn't suffer anymore under the power of a skylord. Flying will be possible by the time we go on that journey."

"My Queen, we should also think about a good way to train some troops. You cannot always be around and with the increase in civilians that we currently face, the little troop of your personal guards doesn't help a lot with all the various tasks that requires some soldiers."

Nell enjoyed calling her 'Queen'. It was fun to see Myra still frowning when he used the title.

"Sure Duke Nell, we just do that. We need to think of a good way to plan out your training as well. The current system just limits you all unnecessarily."

This time Nell frowned at the title.

"Could we ... perhaps drop the titles while we are not in public?" Alyn asked carefully and Myra just started to laugh.

"Of course we can. Nell just calls me Queen because he wants to taunt and rile me up and I can't help it but get my revenge by calling him Duke too. He was the one who came up to me in the first place and told me that I am supposed to be Queen now."

Alyn seemed relieved. In the end, they were still a group of friends and she didn't want them to become estranged just because of some titles and hierarchy.

"Alyn, never forget that this is our Kingdom, you never have to follow any silly traditions or rules set by other places. If you want to do something, want to promote someone, just do it, no matter if we are in public or not."

"As long as you don't harm any innocents and have our people's best interests in mind you never have to worry about all the formal fluff that only Tia and Liam know about anyways."

Myra was treating all those rules as just mere guidelines. If they wanted to do something and it seemed like a good idea for everyone, they would just do it. They had enough power to even force the other empires to submit, let alone making decisions others might find odd in their own kingdom.

"We have a kingdom of common sense here! Not the corrupted, tradition bound one." Myra told them with her finger pointed in the air, as if she was a wise scholar explaining some difficult concept.

"You mean, we go along with your common sense?" Nell jokingly asked her.

"Is there a difference?" Myra was a little bit confused by Nell's words.

"Well" Alyn added. "You see Myra, blowing up things and starting projects on this scale, would usually be called madness by others and not common sense."

"Fair enough. Then we just go by my common sense then." Myra seemed happy enough to settle on this and everyone just smilingly shook their heads, wondering where they would end up if they didn't steer Myra in the right direction.
