13 A Sea Monster

It was early in the morning when the beloved couple of Etheria woke up. Scorpia and Perfuma had found a beautiful lake while cleaning up the debris from the Fright Zone and they had planned a 'lake day' for all the princesses and their friends. Everyone was excited, Catra, however was not. Adora managed to convince her to go but Catra didn't budge when it came to going into the water. Catra hated water with every fiber of her being.

At the lake everyone was ready to spend the day swimming and enjoying the beautiful waters, except Catra. She glared at the waters with an unconditional hatred. Adora felt Catras grip on her hand tighten. She turned to face Catra staring at the ocean, seemingly afraid to get any closer.

"Are you okay Catra?" She asked concerned, pulling Catra out of her state of mind. Catra faced Adora and gave her a quick smile, squeezing her hand. Even with her smile Adora wasn't completely sold. "Are you sure? We can go home if you want;" Catra shook her head.

"Im okay Adora" Catra said softly "Plus we can't ruin Lake day" she said grinning. Adora nodded and gave her such fond smile that it made Catras insides melt.

"Okay let's go" she said walking toward the group.

When they got to the sand Catra stopped pulling Adora to a stop.

"Nope Nope" she said, unlocking hands with Adora and walking further away from the water and sitting down on the grass that was close to the sand. Adora smiled and walked toward her.

"You're not going to swim?" She said half teasing. Catra scoffed and sneered at her.

"What do you think dummy" Adora smiled and began to take off her shirt and pants. " WOAH WOAH WHAT-WHAT ARE YOU DOING" Catra practically yelled; jumping up, grabbing a towel and shielding Adora to hide her exposed skin.

"Catra calm down I have my bathing suit under. Don't you remember?" Adora said laughing. Catras eyes narrowed as she tried to remember what had occurred so early in the morning.

"I don't remember that!" She said lowering the towel and staring straight at Adora, confused. Adora smirked.

"You were half asleep." She said finished taking off her outer layer. Catra sat back down rolling her eyes. Adora grinned "I also snuck one on you while you slept" she teased. Catra gasped and quickly looked inside her shirt and gawked at Adora.

"WHAT-HOW" She said dropping her jaw. Adora laughed

"Just in case you change your mind; " She winked and grinned. Catra crossed her arms and looked to her side.

"Never in a million years;" She grumbled. Adora chucked, grabbed the sunscreen and began to put it on. Catra looked back at Adora and realized Adora was in a bathing suit. In all their years of life they were soldiers fighting in some war, they never had 'beach days' or anything like that, that required bathing suits. She realized Adora looked reaaaally good in a bathing suit and blushed.

"What are you gonna do Catra?" Adora said sitting down next to Catra who was flustered for a reason she did not know. "Are you okay?" She said grabbing Catras attention and snatching her from her focus on Adora's muscles that had DEFINITELY  grown over the course of the war. Catra nodded vigorously and brought out a book from the bag she had been carrying.

"I'm gonna read. Not everyone has to swim in some stupid water to have fun," she responded. Adora nodded grimly, she hated the idea that Catra had to be excluded because she hated water, but she understood her fear.

"Alright" she said softly leaning closer to Catra. "But if you need me to be with you, I'll gladly stay and work on my tan. " she said. Catra chuckled and shook her head

"I'll be okay Adora." Adoras smiled and pecked Catras lips softly and connected their foreheads softly sharing a quiet intimate moment before it was ruined by Bow and Glimmer

"Hey Adora! Hey Catra!" Bow greeted them. Catra frowned at the moment ruined and Adora leaned back to greet them.

"Hey guys" Adora said. glimmer sneered at Catra

"What's wrong Hordescum? Not getting in the water?" Catra rolled her eyes and scrunched her nose

"No I'm not. Deal with it sparkles." She said sticking her nose in her book ignoring the best friend squad. They laughed and accepted the fact that Catra was going no where near the water.

While everyone was enjoying the nice and cool water on a hot day, Catra was near by keeping her distance but not too far; although she wasn't exactly doing what she said she was doing. Catra laid under the shade of a tree, sketching Adora in her bathing suit. Sure, it was a little creepy but Catra needed to practice and what better way to practice than to draw her hot girlfriend in her bathing suit. Her book near by in case of a cover up, Catras tongue stuck out as she focused on Adora, who was playing a form of volleyball in the water. Frost was getting overly excited because adoras team was letting her win, she formed an ice hammer and smashed the ball into the deep part of the lake.

"I'll get it"

Adora yelled while turning and diving to get to the ball that was in the deeper section on the water. Catra noticed her girlfriend vanishing and looked up, scanning the landscape for her lover. She spotted her blond head pop up and she smiled as she saw Adora grab the ball and raise it up.

"I got it!"

Then suddenly a giant sea monster appeared from where Adora was in the deep area.

"Adora!" Glimmer yelled to warn Adora of what was behind her. Catras face dropped and she jumped out of her seat. Before Adora could turn around the monster grabbed her with its tail and swam under. Catra ran toward the water, her fear of losing Adora grew stronger than her fear of water.

Adora struggled to fight against the monsters scaly tail, raising her arm to summon her sword; when the creature took a sharp turn to avoid crashing into a large rock, causing Adora to hit her head on the rock putting her unconscious.

Meanwhile on the surface, everyone began to freak out. Glimmer tried to teleport inside the water but didn't know where the creature had gone. Bow couldn't use his arrows.

"Glimmer!" Catra called from the beach. Glimmer quickly teleported toward her realizing Catra must've been more worried than everyone there. "I have an idea. Teleport me as far as you can into the lake I'll go in and find her and you wait on the beach to teleport us back." Glimmers eyes furrowed

"But Catra you hate the water! We need to figure something else out!" Catra rolled her eyes impatiently

"WE DONT HAVE TIME FOR THIS CRAP JUST DO IT" Catra snapped. Glimmer nodded grimly afraid to argue with the desperate cat and grabbed her

"Hold on"

As soon as glimmer teleported them, she teleported back into the beach to wait for them. Catra plunged into the cold water, forgetting everything except Adora. I can't lose her I CAN'T. ADORA! DON'T YOU DARE DIE! Catra looked around and spotted the green monster swimming toward her with an unconscious Adora wrapped in its tail. Catra retracted her claws and grit her teeth. She waited for the moment the creature passed her and slashed at its face blinding it. The creature dove downward and Catra took the opportunity to grab Adora and commanded the monster to loosen its grip with violent slashes of a furious Catra. The tail loosened and Catra pulled Adora grabbing her by the waist and swimming toward the surface.

"GLIMMER!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, her strength depleting rapidly. Their heads appearing and disappearing in the water. As Catra begun to loose her strength they slowly sank, Catra still hung tightly onto Adora; ready to die with the person she loved most in her arms.

Until someone grabbed Catras arm and pulled her up. It was bow who dove down to get them when Glimmer saw that they started to sink.

When they got to the beach, Bow separated the two to see how they were. Catra coughed and quickly sat up when she realized they were on land. She turned to look for Adora. crawling to be at her side and scanning her, grabbing her wrist to feel for a heartbeat.

"How's Adora?! Is she breathing? Is she going to be okay?" She desperately asked Bow who was still examining her. Glimmer put a hand on her shoulder and smiled sincerely.

"She going to be fine, You saved her."

Although that seemed to calm Catra, that didn't stop her from worrying if she got there too late.

Adora coughed and catras head snapped to look at her. Adora gave her a fond smile raising her hand to cup Catras check, unnoticed by Catra, tears rolled down her face. Adora wiped Catras tears and cleared her throat.

"Catra you're wet" she said softly examining her girlfriend. Catra chuckled with a shaky breath,

"I had to save you dummy" leaning into Adora's hand. Adora smiled fondly at Catra,

"My hero"

The moment between them was interrupted when the princesses began to flock around her, to check if she was okay. Glimmer stood up to face the princesses.

"Im sure if we stay in the shallow end of the lake we'll be fine, let's take a lunch break to shake off the jitters" herding the princesses to the food table, she and Bow were in charge of.

Catra and Adora were left alone, still staring into each others eyes. Catra grabbed the hand that was on her check and gripped it tightly as she laid down in the sand close to Adora. more tears began to form in her eyes, she still shook with her greatest fear of loosing Adora.

"Hey"

Adora said, calling Catra to face her. Catra turned and her tears were released. She sobbed quietly. Adora pulled Catra into her embrace to comfort her, she rubbed her back and let Catra let it out.

"I could've lost you" Catra said softly after she stopped crying. Catra held tightly onto Adora, afraid to let go. "I never want to lose you."

"Catra I'm okay, and you won't lose me I promise; " she said tenderly. She meant every word she said. "If you live to be a hundred, I'm going live to be a hundred and one day so you never have to live without me again I promise" Catra giggled softly.

"I love you Adora, more than anything." Catra said nuzzling her face in Adora's neck.

"I love you too Catra." Adora said planting a kiss on Catras wet hair. And they laid there, in each others arms without a care in the world.

After they got up, Catra realized that she went in the water with her clothes still on and that they were covered with sand which made it incredibly uncomfortable. Adora gave Catra her sweater she had brought in case it got cold.

"What about you if it gets cold Adora?" Catra asked putting on the sweater. Adora grinned and walked toward her small girlfriend, wrapping her arms around her underneath the sweater. She leaned in until they were inches apart.

"Guess i'll just have to share with you" smirking and getting as close as she physically could to Catra. Catra blushed slightly and smiled.

"I could live with that."

Catra said as she leaned in and closed the gap between them. Adora running her fingers through Catras soft wet hair earning a purr from the cat.
