Revelations

**Catlyn Ollivander**

"What did you do Dumbledore!" A voice yells as my head slowly lifts out of the fog. Instead greeted by pain, a numbness lathers my body as I struggle to look around the hospital-like room, vision still cloudy. In the middle of the room, Professor Babbling looks to be about to rip Dumbledore's head off.

"Sheda! Calm yourself. It looks like Miss Ollivander is awake," a woman in a nurse-like uniform yells to them, rushing over to shove a potion down my throat. Instead of my vision clearing, everything turns to vain vision, only not. The red veins intricately woven in the bodies that approach me are joined with weird floaty colors rushing through them. Along with each person having their own color, purple energy hangs in the air like dust.

"Catlyn, Feel the energy around you, constantly flowing and gliding. Feel the energy coming from me and try to take hold of it. Imagine soaking it up like a sponge," The blue outline's distorted voice echoes through my head as I try to follow its instructions. As if being a part of my body, the purple energy, as well as the blue, glides into me. The purple energy comes fluidly but the blue gives a small amount of resistance.

More! More! I can feel an instinct deep inside demand. As if listening to it, the energy starts flying into me faster and faster, filling me with adrenaline. The blue energy starts to fight back, trying to resist my call.

"Catlyn, that's enough," I can hear the voice cry. Wait, am I hurting them? Stop, stop! Trying to deny the instinct, I try to push the energy back. My inner cries go unanswered as the energy continues to pour into me and white energy from myself forms a bridge between me and the blue person, allowing for more of their energy to be drained. I'm killing them!

In one last desperate attempt to not become a murderer, I start trying to give energy to the bridge. My white energy slams into the blue. The collision bursts out into an explosion, slamming the blue person against the wall and pushing everything away. As my vision returns to normal, I look around to see hospital beds pushed back, tables knocked over, and everyone in the room struggling to stay on their feet.

Springing out of the bed, the fact that I'm wearing a hospital gown doesn't even register as I run over to Dumbledore, the source of the blue energy.

*Are you ok?* I ask him as he uses the wall to help himself up.

"Yes, Catlyn. Don't worry, you can't kill this old man that easily," With a smirk, he waves his wand and all the furniture moves back into their proper places.

"What are you doing out of bed?" The nurse angrily puffs out as she pushes me back into my bed, muttering along the way.

"What do you remember?" Professor Babbling asks as she approaches me, still rubbing her head.

*I remember, trying the match to needle spell with you, then…* I stop, trying to recall what happened next, *What's happening to me?*

Dumbledore only strokes his beard as we all look to him, "Madam Pomfrey, grab her a blood pack." At the command, the nurse rushes off as Dumbledore sits on the bed next to mine, "You see Catlyn, part-vampires are not known for having strong magic. The creation of magic energy is theorized to be tied to the souls of magical beings. Because part-vampires only have half a soul, they create less magic energy so their spells are weaker."

*But doesn't that mean I can still cast magic?*

"Normally my dear, but your soul is also weak, damaged, and overworked. Due to how tainted Lich's soul was, it could have caused the birth of a weak soul that generates less magic."

"Surely she generates enough magic to cast a simple spell though?" Professor Babbling asks, curiosity overcoming the anger.

"The years of abuse you've endured could have further diminished your capacity of magic generation. While even that amount should be able to allow you to cast magic so there is another factor."

I sit there annoyed at his long-drawn-out explanation as my fear slowly creeps up my throat, *What is it?*

"The rune circle on your chest uses your magic to stay activated. Catlyn, your body is in a delicate equilibrium, making just enough magic to keep you alive. Cast that spell threw it off and almost killed you."

"You got that all from her eyes glowing?" Professor Babbling asks, only getting a smirk in return.

Tears cloud my vision as hopelessness begins to enter the pit of my stomach, *So that's it? I can't use magic? I'm destined to live the fate of a squib?*

"Not necessarily," Dumbledore responds, giving me hope to battle back my fear, "Ironically the magic you were abused with as a child is also helping you. Because of how many spells were used on you and your body's craving for magic, it's created and given you a unique connection with magic energy. As you saw before, you're able to sense and absorb magic from around you."

*So we can just do something similar as my blood packs?* I ask, hopeful, as Dumbledore's unreadable face ponders.

"Sheda?" His question knocks Professor Babbling off guard as she takes a seat on the bed next to Dumbledore. As Professor Babbling ponders his question, Madam Pomfrey comes back with a blood pack for me.

"Umm, it might work, but the magic required for Catlyn to cast magic is double the amount normally needed thanks to the rune. Someone feeding her magic could work in the short term but isn't feasible in the long term. It might help if-"

Her thought gets cut off as banging comes from two massive doors on the end of the room. Person! In fight or flight, I notice my gown's short sleeves and look around in desperation for anything to cover my scars up. Professor Babbling, taking notice of my frantic panic, magically lengthens my sleeves.

"What is it?" Madam Pomfrey calmly asks as she opens the door slightly.

"Where's Catlyn? Is she ok?" A frantic voice asks behind Madam Pomfrey.

"At this time-" Madam Pomfrey starts to deny her until Dumbledore cuts her off.

"It's fine Poppy. Tonight I'll talk with the rest of your teachers about accommodations for you but remember you have two options. You have a very difficult road up ahead, I nor anyone else in this room will fault you if you decide to live as a squib," With that, Dumbledore leaves the room.

"Bye Catlyn," Professor Babbling waves goodbye. Her smile is genuine, yet fire lingers in the corners of her eyes as she storms out.

"Catlyn!" Clearwater cries as she runs to me. I only sit there in silence as the weight of the world comes crashing down around me.

**Bathsheda Babbling**

Anger fuels every step as I make my way down the dungeons. Rage pores out of every portion of my being as I stomp through the corridors. Students taking notice, try to get as much distance from me as they can.

"How could you?" I yell as I barge into Snape's office, knowing he would be staying late to grade summer homework.
