Evie stood there, glaring down at the inept Detective that was trying to throw his weight around and push them out of the bombing investigation that nearly took their son from them.

The man’s greasy graying hair was combed over to hide his balding. His wrinkled shirt had staining under the arms and neck from excessive perspiration, and his jacket had oil stains down the front of it from lunch.

There was nothing intimidating about the man in the least, and it was an insult to their station and reputations to have the local detective, that somehow managed to infiltrate the private floor, in front of them now.

Mauri didn’t have it in him to fight with the man, so he was holding Lucien’s hand and praying for him to wake up while his wife took care of it.

If needed, Mauri would help her throw the body out the window to make it look like a suicide.
