15 Adoption

On the way back we were able to see different things that I had never seen before and things that neither did the three.

Just like those huge birds that we saw. I was really scared at that time. Afraid that they might eat us. I mean, What can we do other than being eaten when up against them? I was just as big as their beak. But fortunately, they ignored us and continued to fly in the air.

Apart from those birds. We passed by adventurers whom I could recognise as they were from the city. Seeing them I was sure that we were on the right track. We should be nearby now.

Ah! I can see the city walls! Finally, after getting lost many times, we have at last made it.

I shared this news with the three. And when they heard this, they were overjoyed.

They've been grumbling all this time about how they were tired and hungry. They complained that they were so tired that they can't walk. Ha? Wasn't it me who has been walking all this time while the three of you were riding atop my hair. I should be the one complaining about having to carry you. But I can't because I'm the one who brought him upon myself.

Now that I could clearly see how irresponsible and stupid I am. I didn't bring them into consideration. Didn't bother to know whether they would be fine with it and everything. I've also not prepared at all.

If not for the apple trees we come across earlier then maybe we were already starved to death. The river that we found also quenched our thirst. It seems that all this time I've been living on luck. I can't continue living like this.

I thought you were going to change, Alex!

But now you're just the same as before. And now you're talking to yourself again.

* sigh

...

It was late when we got back to the city. We didn't go to the inn right away because we had to find food for dinner first. We're just so hungry. Just fruit and water we had earlier are not enough.

After we had dinner, the three fell stumped to the floor. They were exhausted both physically and mentally.

I was also very tired and wanted to sleep. But before I slept. I reflected. The room was silent except for a few laughter upstairs. The only thing to accompany this melancholy of mine was the pale moon.

As some experts say. The brain seems to be more active before going to sleep. And that seems to be true.

...

"Snow, Garfield, Luna! Let's go!" I called the three.

"Where are we going, Master?" Luna asked

"We're going to the Guild. We're going to meet someone" I answered.

After having our breakfast, we quickly headed to the Adventurer's guild. As I said to the three, we are going to meet someone, that's true. We're here to meet... Ah? Who is he again? Just a moment, now that I thought about it. I didn't get her name.

Not to worry. I'll just go and ask her right now as she was just behind the counter.

"You three, go there and wait. Don't be naughty!"

"yes!"

I went to the counter and called her.

"Psst! Hey girl!"

The woman turned around and searched at the voice calling to her. She looked left and right but saw no one and when she looked down she saw a cat.

"Mr Cat?" She asked as she tried to lift it and laid it on the table.

She seems to have remembered me.

"yes, it's me" I replied.

"Ah! I'm glad to see you, Mr Cat!"

She seemed so pleased that we had met based on the smile on his face. I just hope I'm doing the right thing.

"Miss ...?"

"Ah, its Maria"

"Miss Maria, I have something to ask you"

"What's that?"

I listened to where the three were. When I looked at Mary, she seemed to understand what I meant. So she asked to be sure.

"Mr Cat... This ... Are you telling me to take care of them?" She asked sceptically.

I nodded my head in confirmation.

"Will you take care of them? If you can't. I just need someone who can give them a home." I said while staring deep into her eyes.

As I pondered, I realized a lot. I was thinking about what my next step would be. And as I thought about it, this seems to be the most logical thing to do. This might just be me avoiding responsibility but believe me when I say I don't like this too.

Let's face it. I can barely take care of myself. We're barely living. Maybe as cats what we have right now was alright. But I wasn't just a cat and I wanted them to have everything they wanted and needed. For the current me, I am unable to even give them a home. So I've decided to have someone take care of them temporarily.

" Sure Mr Cat! I've always wanted to have a cat. But I have a condition."

"Sure, I'll do anything!"

Maria didn't say anything and just pointed her finger. And she's pointing at me?

"Uhm, what do you mean by that?"

"If I'm going to adopt them then you would have to come too!" She smiled playfully.

"Sure!"

I thought that it be something drastic like giving up my life in exchange or something.

"I'll bring you to my place later during my break"

"Alright, I'll introduce them to you later"

Now let's talk this with the kittens…

...

"Eh, Master. We're gonna live where?"

"Over a human's house"

"A human's house?"

"Yes"

"Will there be food?" Garfield asked.

"Of course. Delicious foods"

"Are there beds?!"

"Maybe but I don't think we could sleep there."

"Why not?"

Garfield and Snow were excited and kept asking a bunch of stuff. If the two of them was excited and yearning to go. Luna looked worried about something.

"Is something wrong Luna?"

"Are you abandoning us, Master?"

Hearing her question I was baffled. Garfield and Snow's ears stopped playing with each other. Their ears perked up anticipating for my answer.

Seeing them anxious like this…I can't help but smile in happiness. That means that they must like me too, right?

"Well, of course! I can't miss out upon this new home!"
