1 Breaking Air

Morning is yet to come for the town called Darfen Dale. A magical green haze danced around the ground and near dim lights that burned late night. A two story nook sat in the mist of stores and town hall. And there somebody entered.

A candle that's wax melted over and over was relit again by a young man. The dim yellow light showed his smooth hazel skin and maroon cloak as he moved around the well kept store front, relighting two others in glass cases. Setting the wax candle carefully aside he took books from his personal bag onto the counter, picking the candle up again to head upstairs.

The half spiraling wooden stairs creaked every few steps the cloak male took. A sharp turn was made into an open room, messier than the one before. Papers piled on the floor were illuminated by warm colors of a flame drifting carefully by before resting at the corner of a desk. The curtains behind it flew open as a soft green light flooded the dim study. A man stood in front of the window before turning around, gently waking the man resting his dirty blonde head on scattered papers.

"It's almost noon, Mé," The other softly warned.

Panicked- Mé risen his head, hastily removing a paper that stuck to his face.

"Huh? Noon already?" He croaked, looking around for the one that spoke.

"No, but the store should be opened by now. You overslept again." The apprentice pinched Mè's ears as he nagged at him.

"Ah- ow my ears Ré," The dirty blonde waved a hand in attempt to make him stop. "I'm sorry I must of lost track of time-"

Ré let go of Mé's ears before moving to the side of him, "The fifth time this week. What's going on?" He grimaced, "Please don't tell me you're still worrying about my research." Mé lifted his frowning head towards the apprentice. From up close you could see he had long lashes and barley noticeable freckles.

"The promise Ré, You know couldn't bare letting my friend go to such a dangerous place alone. I- I don't care if it's for your research, I won't let you get hurt again I just-"

Ré cut him off, "Mé."

He sighed, replying sharply, "I'll be fine, I'm just going there for a month to gather the needed recourses to help my research. I can take care of myself."

"Yeah but-"

"Mé," He raised his voice in disgust, "This shouldn't be an argument among the two of us, we'll talk about this later okay?" He rubbed his temples, both in silence together.

"Right, I'll get the store ready," Mé said shamefully as he stood, avoiding eye contact til he reached the staircase, exiting.
