1 Enigma team: Branch Alpha

The world has changed.

In the year 2178, a meteor crash landed on planet Earth, sending a cloud of dust up into the atmosphere that covered the entire globe for five months. People were forced to adapt to the absence of sunlight, the government was forced to go by new rules and set up a list of survival methods for its people.

The temperature dropped significantly, even the countries near the equator had negative temperatures. Floras and faunas that could not adapt all died out, leaving a much smaller portion of resources available.

All food had to be registered and distributed by the government, rationing took place so that no one could take advantage of the situation. Rich or poor, people had to eat the same type and amount of food. Businesses could not go on, people had no interest in making transactions for any goods. The economy was in ruins all over the world. Suddenly, money had no value.

Countless people fell ill from the dust in the air and injuries from the compact was to a large extent. Hospitals were flooded with patients who were nutrient deficient, whether it be from the limited amount of food, the absence of sunlight, or other factors.

This disaster has shown that many governments were not ready to deal with such an event. Even developed countries struggled to maintain order.

However, something peculiar happened to certain individuals all around the world.

'Magic' was something only told in novels and literature. Individuals referred to as witches and wizards were something that people knew as fables, but this crash had changed everything.

People had sudden outbursts of energy that could not be explained with any theory currently known by scientists and doctors. Some would gain immense strength, or an unexpected proficiency in weapon wielding. It took some time for people to realize what kind of powers they have acquired, and eventually, when the government took notice of these people having gained unexplainable powers, they rushed to group these individuals into labs to be studied. Brain activities of these new humans were monitored, and a change in neurons were detected. After it has been confirmed that these people were indeed different from the usual humans the world had known, they started conducting tests on people who have not yet experienced a change.

By the time the dust cleared out, most countries have already separated these people from the public to prevent any unexpected behavior being displayed to family members that could potentially be harmful. They thought that this was the only change the meteor had brought upon Earth.

But they were greatly mistaken.

Once the ecological situation got better, each country sent out their military to patrol and monitor the damage of different areas. That was when countless sightings of 'monsters' started to be reported.

The very first obvious disaster that the meteor had brought upon Earth appeared in China. The famous attraction, Great Wall of China, had a huge 'lizard-like' entity laid along its width. The encounter unit was skeptical as there was no trustworthy documentation of such a species appearing anywhere before in the history of the world, but it was obvious that the creature was a dragon. An enormous 'snake-like' creature with four legs, possibly wielding magic powers.

The report went around like a wildfire, no one had any idea what to do with this encounter, so for the time being, the government had to closely watch when the dragon was going to wake up and evacuate the locals living near the area in the meanwhile.

Countless other reports came out all over the world, it seems that myths and fables that were once fictional were crashing with reality. Nymphs, fairies, mermaids, and other enigmatic beings were appearing everywhere, now new laws have to be set to ensure that no harm is done to neither these beings nor original humans.

This leads us to the formation of the Enigma team.

The Enigma team is composed of individuals who have experienced a change in their body, who are now referred to as the 'new humans'. They are gathered from all around the world and classified into branches based on their abilities, for instance, new humans who have the ability to breathe underwater were classified into the marine branch. These people go through immense training to refine their abilities in order for them to be able to be put to use.

The Enigma Team consists of many branches to handle different types of missions: The Marine Branch – in charge of all affairs regarding water bodies, The Micro Branch – responsible for creatures of small scale such as fairies and pixies, etc.

Above all is the Alpha Branch. It is deployed to deal with all missions that are classified as disastrous – difficulties of level five or higher.

The Alpha Branch consists of ten members, referred to by greek characters.

The Alpha Branch is the only branch that is authorized to handle disasters regardless of the beast it involves. The regular branches are not allowed to interfere in each other's work, unless the situation calls for it, and the request is reviewed and approved by the general of the Enigma team.

The Alpha Branch was the first to form, when only a selected few new humans were discovered. They were the first to go through training, initially just to test out the extent these skills can be developed into, which is why they are the strongest, most well-rounded of all. But because they are not specialized in any particular field, the bureau had no idea where to place them; it would be too much of a loss to distribute such talent into separate branches.

This is the story of how Branch Alpha was formed, and they are destined to rewrite fables.
